Was somewhat underwhelmed by this beer. Had it at a bottle-share and loved it, so I traded for it in order to try again. Second time around, was just not happy. Way too sour/vinegary, with little to no raspberry (tart) sweetness. Would like to try one more time just to see if I got a bad batch, otherwise I'll pass on this beer.

750 ml bottle, generously shared at the Peg's tasting on 3/8/13.

A- Pours a clear reddish color, topped with a thin white head.

S- Just loads of vibrant raspberry aroma, which has both a fresh, raspberry juice character as well as dryer raspberry skins. Smells delicious.

T- Similar to the aroma, lots of fresh, tasty raspberries, there's also some nice tartness to it, as well as some sugary sweetness towards the back which I would have liked a bit less of.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth, dry feel, sort of sticky.

O- A solid fruit beer, the raspberry aroma and flavor and the tartness are really nice, but it loses a few points with me just on sweetness.

750ml bottle split four ways and poured into Teku Glass. Thanks Josh (thebigredone) for this one!

A- Pours a dark slightly translucent reddish with a slight purplish hue to it, a thin head forms that fairly quickly recedes leaving some spotty lacing, fairly minimal but consistent carbonation.

S- Very sweet raspberry almost like a syrupy jam-like sweetness. Fairly aromatic, but a little bit too much on the sweet side.

T- Lightly tart raspberry jam with a light malt backbone, fairly sweet (but not as sweet as the other NG fruit beers I've had) and a little bit one-dimensional. Tasty and a decent level of tartness that plays well with the sweet raspberry jam, just a little bit too sweet in my opinion though.

M- Fairly light but a tiny bit syrupy, nice carbonation, easy drinking.

O- This was my favorite of the NG fruit beers besides the apple. I thought it was good, but a little bit too much on the sweet side. I do think having this in my cellar for a few months did help tone the sweetness down a little bit however it was still a little bit too much for my liking. To my liking I could picture this being a little bit better with a year on it (some people might not agree though). Overall I thought it was decent but not something I would seek out again, I can see how a lot of people really like this beer though.

Pours reddish brown with a couple fingers of white fluffy head.

Smells of jammy raspberries. Slight wood. Slight and very pleasent funk. A touch of tartness on the nose.

Taste is jam. Fruity. Sweet but not cloying in the least. Nice tartness to balance.

Light bodied, medium carb.

For the style absolutely one of the best. Really walks a line of fruit beer and wild ale.

A - Pours a nice clear ruby red. A bit of an pink head, maybe half a finger that very slowly dissapates. Nice carbonation bubbles rising. Looks a lot like a Rose.

S - Tart raspberries, a bit of funky, maybe yeasty funk. Fruit, raspberry jam, sour, sweet

T - A great framboise taste. Lots of tartness, raspberry, a little funky, nice balance with sweet and tart. Very easy to drink, good fruit juice taste.

M - Champagne like mouthfeel with the carbonation and a beautiful balance of tart and sweet mouthfeel.

O - Near perfect for this style. A fantastic fruit beer. Light body, great sweet/tart mixture. I've used this and NG's Belgian Red to turn non-beer drinkers.

A - the beer pours a nice ruby cherry hue with some off-white head present. A little bit of sticky looking lacing persists while the bubbly carbonation, while present throughout consumption, fades a bit while settling.

S - up front, it's a funky yeast. Immediately after, it's all raspberry jam, sour fruit, and some really slight funk notes.

T - deliciously raspberry jammy...I was looking for the seeds you'd find in such a jam while drinking this down. It's got those sour lambic notes without being bitter or cloying; there are some apple tart-crisp flavors; damn tasty!

M - this beer puts out a nice bubbly carbonation with those sour apple/raspberry pucker notes that hit the tongue nicely; it's not too gushy and pings those salivating glands strong

O - this is an awesome raspberry ale that probably crosses a few style lines, like cider and lambic, to perfection. It's deliciously potable and my only wish is that I had cases. Great brew!

A- Pours a moderately deep, somewhat dull ruby color. Medium to large head that retains only a little while but laces nicely in the New Glarus flute. Constant carbonation is visible and it is apparent that this a very bubbly beer.

S- All raspberry, but varying flavors throughout. Starts with some naturally sweet berry tones, but then progresses straight into a funky note. The funky note turns a touch to the sour side. Finishes with a mix of the sour, sweet, and funky notes.

T- Just like the smell, except more natural (if possible). Starts with only a slight hint of sweet, then goes right into the funk. The funk and sour are stronger here than in the scent. Sweetness persists under the slight sour notes throughout the drink, but the funk and sour take a front seat. Ends with a slight bite of sour and little to no aftertaste on the tongue.

M- Light and fizzy all the way through. Pretty thin and easy to drink. Sour level doesn't effect it's ability to be drank at length.

Overall, this is a great fruit beer. Not terribly complex in the flavor or scent, but pretty delicious all the way through. Sour and sweet notes really work together to make this a beer and not just a carbonated fruit drink.

a very special beer. used this instead of champaigne last night to bring in the new year. thanks to my girlfriend for hooking this up for me! the much anticipated pour was a red tainted pale brown color, mostly clear, with a ton of rising bubbles and a persistent finger or two of fizz. the nose takes you by surprise. its potently fresh raspberries, juicy and lush and overripe. there is also a medium toast malt underneath that gives this one a little more substance than perhaps the belgian red has, which i certianly appreciate. flavor too is heavenly raspberries, this brings me to late summer in the woods picking huge berries and stuffing my face growing up. some tartish yeast in here too adds a slight puckery element to balance the sweetness of the fruit. finish is perfect mix of sweet and tart, with sweet probably just getting the edge. the feel was interesting. its insanely carbonated, much like the champaigne we were replacing with this brew. body is light but not too too light, and the alcohol is of course super low, but to me this wasnt super drinkable. i think the sweetness combined with all the bubbles made it more of a slow sipper, and when we finished the bottle, i had definitely had enough of this. that said though, this is a rare treat to be savored and shared. new glarus has now given me two of the best fruit beers in the known world, so thanks for that!

A: Slightly cloudy, deep red/raspberry color. Small amount of white head.

S: RASPBERRY! ...with hints of strawberry.

T: Again, RASPBERRY! The name says it all, Raspberry Tart! A perfect fully flavored fruit beer. It's pretty intense with a very pleasant lingering aftertaste.

M: Very smooth medium bodied "fizz".

My wife and I actually prefer this to the New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red. I think it's probably the edgy tartness that does it for us. This is an amazing beer full of flavor, tartness, and sweetness.

Poured from the 25 ounce capped bottle into wine glasses with Christmas dinner.

Pours deep crimson maroon with thick white foam. Remains at a low level after settling, but still there. Deep fruity smell, but malty too. Tart raspberry flavor holds throughout. Smooth and tart. Light bodied, ends puckering. Sour. Really damn good.

New Glarus really nails this style, in a big way.

Brown glass bottle with waxed over pressure cap served into a Guinness goblet in me gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Expectations are through the roof given the brewery.

Served straight from the refrigerator. Side-poured as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger beige-khaki colour head of good cream and thickness, and great retention. Body colour is a semitransparent translucent vibrant ruby-amber. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Tart raspberry, heavy fruit esters, pale malts, hints of cranberry, and hints of floral ester hops. An above average strength aroma.

T: Delightful tart sugary raspberry, great estery malts, and heavy sugary notes. Delightful clean fruit notes. Impeccably balanced. Incredibly well built. Diverse and evocative fruit.

Mf: Smooth, wet, perfectly carbonated, and featuring ideal thickness. Complements the flavour pretty well.

Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable. Hides its ABV well. I'd definitely have this again. Lives up to the hype. Another fantastic brew from New Glarus. Incredible.

Bomber into tulip glass.

A: Solid Off Reddish Hue, Passes Mild Light, Mild Pinkish Head, Some Lacing

S: Lots of Raspberries, Mild Cranberry

T: Mildly Sweet Raspberries, Mild Tart Cherry

M: Average Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Semi Sweet, Mildly Tart

Overall, pretty solid for the style, I had the 2009 version recently and it was like drinking raspberry juice where the 2010 was mildly tart.

Dark amber color with a good, creamy cap. Nice raspberry aroma! And really good flavor. I really like that this is only 4% as I am able to enjoy a lot of it without filling up or getting too buzzed. It’s oh-so drinkable with its really nice raspberry flavor, held up with adequate malt. Good body/carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, clear, medium carbonation, light red in color

Smell: raspberry and leafiness

Taste: raspberry, sour mix, leafiness

Mouthfeel: sweet and tart, and light bodied, high prickly carbonation

Overall:A good but not overpowering raspberry beer with loads of natural flavors. I would get this again if I wanted a raspberry beer. I was blown away by Wisconsin Belgian Red and while good, I did not get nearly the same feelings from this one.

Poured from a 28oz bottle into a sierra Nevada Tulip glass:

Appearance: Reddish brown, but a deep red, like a dark cherry.

Aroma: Tart red fruit aroma, cherries, apple skin and dark berries. fresh ripe raspberries deffinetly come to mind, but thats obvious I suppose. it's really amazing tho, it smells like I'm standing in a raspberry packaging plant.

Flavor: Smooth tartness up front, with some fruity sweetness and a little tiny bit of some some bread flavors (like flour). Again, it tastes like fresh raspberries and i just cant wrap my head around how they can possibly do this... amazing.

Mouthfeel: carbonation is high, but the maltiness hides some of if, so it tastes medium to almost full bodied, but not cloying.

Overall: This is about the 5th time that i've had the pleasure to enjoy a glass of Raspberry Tart. And quite frankly, the experience hasn't changed, it's an truly amazing beer, its perfectly balanced and one of the first world class beers i've ever had. It's fresh raspberry aroma and taste are insanely balanced and it's awesome to think that a beer can contain flavors like this. One of my favorite beers of all time. New Glarus knows how to do their fruit beers and they know how to do them well..

Poured from a wax covered bomber into a champagne flute

A- pours a slightly hazy reddish brown, a massive two finger fluffy head appears and slowly dissipates down to a nice covering, lots of bubbles sticking to the side of the flute, nice ring of lace left on the glass

S- raspberries and lots of them, some sour funk hits the nose as well, a little bit of bready malt as well

T- sweet and tart, tastes like pure raspberry juice, not too much to elaborate on here, delicious

M- medium body, fairly high carbonation but it works well, covers the whole palate

O- this is a delicious beer, I saved this one for months as my desert beer for Thanksgiving and it was worth it, not one you want to drink regularly but this is a great special occasion beer

750mL thanks to my secret Santa (I think). Whoa holy s*** this is good. I am not a giant fan of the Belgian Red but I know it is hard for NG to come out with a beer that is not stellar. What an outstanding fruit beer that is neither 10%+ nor a lambic.

Pours a clear deep purple to ruby with a towering, thick, creamy, slightly pink head that has excellent retention and good lace. Aroma is incredible: fresh raspberries, pithy raspberry, seedy raspberry preserves, really so rich and bright with fresh fruitiness. No candy sugar, no sticky sweetness. Taste is so brilliant: it is malty, creamy, not buttery, with so much fresh raspberry that brings out a naturally tartness that is not framboise sour. No pedio, lacto, acedic acid. No lambic character. But somehow is perfectly balanced between sour berries and sweet malt. Lively, bubbly tart on the palate that finishes super quick making you beg for more. It is not massively complex, but it is a beer that I will crave from now on every day. Destroys all fruit beer. 8/10/2010 8/5/8/5/15=4.1

750mL. Pour is perfect- a clear jewel black ruby with a massive pinkish beige head. Huge retention and wispy, gorgeous delicate lace abounds across the raster tulip. Nose is seedy raspberry smoothie. Taste....wow. So much lactic sourness, seedy raspberry, sweet raspberry smoothie. Palate is ultra silky with a long lactic finish. Mild spice and sharp sting. Perfect blend of sweet and sour. Incredible raspberry character. Impossible for any organic lifeform to not thoroughly enjoy this. Whoa. 11/9/2011 8/5/9/5/17=4.4

Poured from a waxed 750 ml bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber ruby red with a lot of bubbles sticking around the glass. About two fingers of off white head that fade into a thin patchy layer. Lacing is fairly light.

Smell: As expected a big aroma of raspberries. Sweet raspberry with a moderate tartness. Hints of yeast, biscuit, and caramel malt. Light hints of oak and vanilla. Some brown sugar. Light presence of earthy hops. Fairly jammy and slightly sour. Seems like a simple straight ahead aroma but it is pretty good.

Taste: Like the aroma hints, but even better. A huge taste of raspberry fruit juices that is the dominate note. Some soft bready malts with hints of caramel and biscuit. Also a light taste of oak and vanilla along with some brown sugar . Light earthy hop presence in the background. Tastes sweet but it isn't overly syrupy or cloying. The sweetness, syrup, and sourness is kept in check pretty well. Really nice fruity jam taste. Nothing tastes artificial.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Chewy, juicy, and slightly sticky and syrupy.

Overall: A really great fruit beer. Huge real fruit flavor and the sweetness and tartness isn't overbearing. Has a decent body to it so it isn't really a quick drinker. Take the time to enjoy the raspberry.

Tart, fizzy, and a little bit sour. Like a jolly rancher in a glass. Too sweet for daily drinking, but makes a great dessert beer. Especially if you like your dessert first. Wish there was more bitter and less berry in this, but would still seek this out for a special occasion pour.

Thanks to ActonBrewer for this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from wax-sealed bomber into Peg's snifter.

A: Dark amber in color with a hint of red. Forms a one and one-half finger pinkish white head on top of a good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Sour, tangy, fruity, and some sweet malt. Not an overall strong aroma but what's there is pleasant.

T: Much stronger than nose. Tart raspberry, dark fruity, and tangy. Almost like raspberry pie filling, or I suppose, a raspberry tart (although I've never had one). Fruity tartness in the hang.

M: A bit chewy on the mouthfeel. Decent carbonation sensation and is a heavier body than expected. Minimal alcohol presence.

O: A bit on the sweet side for an everyday drinker, but thoroughly enjoyable. Well-made beer, and one I would highly recommend trying.

The beer pours a clear crimson amber with a thin head that fades quickly. The nose is vegetal with a potent raspberry sweetness...without any indication of alcohol or tartness. The taste is just as sweet as the nose, but much more tartness finally presents itself. The aftertaste (proceeding the mouthwatering tartness) is malty and sweet. This beer doesn't resemble cough syrup, which is an added bonus! A slight yeastiness complements the beer's sweet nose and taste. It's a light bodied, drinkable, framboise-like beer that's slightly lacking in carbonation, but has sufficient malt characteristics to remind me this is actually a "beer" I'm drinking. I don't understand why this beer is quite so raved about, but I think it closely resembled blushing monk (which I prefer more) and is worth trying.

Bomber poured into a flute

Pours an amber red color with a very small quick fading white head. Smells of sour fruits and not much else. Very sweet smelling. Taste is pretty fruit forward but some sour funk is present as well. Mouthfeel is medium with decent carbonation. Overall this is very unique. Very enjoyable and delicious.

750 ml into a pint

A - Brown with amber to ruby highlights. Little bits of brown yeast and a strong mocha colored head formation. Breaks down to a film rather quickly.

S- Raspberry is the name of the game, smooth and earthy rather than bright and sweet. Nice and deep, not over the top.

T - starts off with the full on raspberry flavors, bittersweet, nice and tangy. Mid-stream gets more of the raspberry, which then finishes with the raspberry. Nothing to hind here. This one sat in the cellar for a while so it is clear this beer holds these flavors well.

M - Moderate body, light carbonation. lots of sugary sticky flavors from all the sweetness.

O/D - Hard to classify beer. If you want a raspberry beer, you've got it here - this thing does it so well that it has to surpass any of those expectations. Of course New Glarus is known by this, so the result makes sense.

Raspberry Tart pours a clear cherry red with a fizzy white head. The foam dissolves quickly leaving no lace on the glass.

The aroma is sweet and loaded with raspberry. It has a touch of cinnamon mixed in.

Each sip of this light to medium bodied beer is smooth and oily with light carbonation. The flavor is sugary sweet raspberry with some cinnamon mixed in. It's tart with a dry finish. Once gone the raspberry flavor lingers on the palate.

This beer is dessert in a glass. It's very fruity and mildly tart.
