Awesome throw-in from a trade w/ raoulduke37. Split with friends last night after dinner. Pours a dark ruby red, really pretty color, little whispy pinkish head. Fizzy. Looks like soda, is all I can think of. Smell is unadulterated raspberry. So far so good, but while I dig the raspberry flavor, this is just too sweet for me. A tiny bit of tart in the finish, but I wouldn't venture to label this beer as sour at all. It's fruity, and sweet. Which if you're looking for, you're going to like this beer. Just not really my thing. A bit cloying and sugary. Wish it was a little more complex and wild tasting, a little more natural. Still and impressive brew. Big fan of New Glarus in general so I would still recommend this beer to others.

Pours crimson red with a bubbling white head that fade to almost no lacing.

A big raspberry aroma with a mild amount of oak. Comes across like it's gonna be really sweet.

Tastes are the same. Too sweet for me, almost like soda. No real acidity to speak of. Light dry finish.

Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

Overall is just not my kind of beer I guess. I'm a little bummed by that as I was looking forward to this beer for some time.

Look: Pours a amber red color with a 1/4 inch pinkish head and ok retention

Smell: Raspberries and more raspberries with a slight sourness

Taste: For me this is where it went wrong. The flavor is overpowering with raspberries and they seem artificial. There is a slight tartness and sourness that accompany the raspberries

Mouthfeel: Just over a thin body and mild carbonation and it felt very syrupy to me and left a stickiness in my mouth that I didnt really care for

Overall: This drinks more like a fruit juice then a beer. This is not what I want when I want to drink a beer sorry but this one just doesnt do it for me

Geez, this stuff is close to Alizarin Crimson in color (a purplish red used by watercolor painters). Thin skim of a pinkish head. Laces in wisps on a wine glass. Raspberries saturate the aroma, and being my favorite berry, that's OK. The flavor however is overdone and unidimensional. Berry chokes the palette and the nose concurrently -- and while its not the overly sweet tone of a cheap Framboise, its too much. The tartness is underdone, its more raspberry "smoothie" than seeds and stems. The Belgian Red straddles the line, this crosses it. Could also use slightly more carbonation for interest.

A: Pours a clear mahogany with ruby tints and two fingers of khaki head that recedes into a thin cap with no lacing.

S: Tons and tons of dry, tart raspberry aromas with just a hint of some yeasty characters.

T: Similar to the aroma, raspberries dominate: sweet, tart, acidic, and dry all at the same time. Not much else going on here.

M: Medium-light body with light, but biting carbonation.

O: Not a bad beer by any means . . . but it's difficult for me to even think of this as a beer. This is really just carbonated raspberry juice. It's fairly tasty, but is so simple and one-note in both taste and aroma that it'd be hard for me to call this a good beer. I'd like less raspberry and more beer (i.e. hops, barley, and yeast).

A - Pours about one finger of white to off-white head. Body is brown with a red tinge and clear. No lacing.

S - Raspberries and sweet. Not much else going on.

T - Overpoweringly sweet. Raspberries. Very slight sourness. Some earthy funk to it as well on the back-end.

M - Good carbonation with medium body.

O - It is a dessert beer that is very sweet and one dimensional (raspberry). Not something I think I would ever seek out again.

750 ml. green bottle, no date information.

Murky maroon. Short, frothy pink-washed medium and large bubbles rest on top and slowly pop, leaving a pile around the edge. Drapes of clingy lace adhere to the glass. A handful of fine bubbled carbonation streams are visible. Bright, fresh raspberry aromas as well as some sweet raspberry syrup. Sweet, syrupy raspberry flavors lead off. A bit of tartness comes through in the finish, but this remains predominantly sugary sweet throughout. Medium-light body, with a fairly effervescent mouthfeel. The raspberry juice trails long into the finish. This is sticky and a tacky feeling gains traction on the tongue. There is a bit of wet wood beneath the sweetness, but the raspberries simply dominate the wheat and Hallertau hops. This was significantly sweeter than I expected and the “Tart” aspect was virtually non-existent.

A: cloudy light garnet to brown color with a one finger head with very little retention, though it looks well carbonated.

S: raspberry, sweetness, some sourness

T: delicious raspberry with sweetness and some tartness. Not super complex, though. A bit too sweet.

M: undercarbonated by a small amount on the front end, but going down I could feel the soft release of the bubbles. Feel would be better with more carbonation to lighten up the body.

O: quite a good beer, but maybe it's not my style. Overall it's very good, and I would pick it up at the store for certain people and certain events if it were the right price. Very good, but a little too much like fruit juice for me.

750ml into a snifter.

A: Burgundy body with a small cream-colored head.

S: Sweet raspberry flesh, very light acidity. Lots of fruity sugar.

T: Juicy. somewhat syrupy raspberry, light malty spice. Very sweet.

M: Between light and medium-bodied, frothy carbonation.

O: While I like this a bit better than Wisconsin Belgian Red, it's still a bit too syrupy-sweet for me, especially for being called "Raspberry Tart."

Poured from a 750ml bottle into my Founders snifter. Split with my buddy for his birthday day.

A: Pours a dark purple with nice cherried hues woven throughout, but mainly on the edges. Light pink 1 finger head that lingered for a little while, then instantly dissipated.

S: Very light berries up front and then it sort of morphs into a nice sweetness, almost like a fruit roll-up or fruit by the foot. I pick up a slight bread-like malt on the back end. These smells were all very light and it took some effort to find them.

T: Very nice semi-tart mixed berries up front with a nice dry malt bill. This gives way to a nice sweetness that lingers throughout the middle and back end, just like the nose. Slightly less medicinal than the Belgian Red.

M: Medium bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Coats the palate with a semi-bitter berry. Medium carbonation.

O: While I don't like fruit or vegetable beers, New Glarus has definitely upped the ante and made me at least enjoy them. While I probably wont try this one again, I'm glad I did because I'm always trying to expand my horizons and if there is a beer that can sway me I'm all for it.

I opened this up along with the Belgian Red with my wife for Christmas Eve. She likes fruity beers so we agreed to have both.

There's a reddish pink and brown body when I poured this beer into two glasses for both of us.

This beer definitely emphasizes raspberries and smells so sweet. There's a sour presence and dare I say, some funk in this? It's not too sour - there's some sweetness too, like a pureed respberries were mixed into the beer. It's a little bit too tart, but the sweetness keeps it from making you grimace!

While this is good, we both preferred the Belgian Red.

Pours into my glass with a deep pink colored head. The beer is a dark red color that is approaching black (though it has a ways to go). I get strong aromas of raspberries emanating from my glass as I pour this beer. The sweet raspberry notes dominate the aroma, though perhaps a hint of acidity comes through, but not much else. The beer is definitely sweet. It has a full fruity flavor and an almost thick body from the residual sugars that are left behind. It is quite tart in the finish, though it could perhaps use a bit more to balance the syrupy sweetness. I also get a bit of raspberry skin tannin in the finish. The sweetness really over powers that rest of the complexity that might be found in the base beer. This is definitely enjoyable, but is a bit too sweet and cloying to be a 'beer' for me.

1 pt, 9 oz. bottle into a thin pilsner.

deep reddish purple with a foamy pink head that leaves nice rings of lace.

sweet raspberries and sugar in the aroma. no hint of malt, hops, or alcohol; absolutely no hint that this is a beer. it is wonderfully sweet, however, and fragrantly pleasant.

light to medium body and a ticklish light carbonation prevent it from being cloying, but the flavor is all sugary sweet raspberries. a touch of tartness and tanginess, but mainly it's just the berries.

very similar to the belgian red, with raspberries sitting in for the cherries. as i said about the belgian red, this one's very good, and a nice dessert, but i prefer my beers to be a little more beer-like.

750ml bottle poured into my DFH snifter. Have to say thank you very, very much to trxxpaxxs for this bottle!

The beer is a cloudy dark, burnt red/orange color. The head produced was a just about a finger high, maybe a bit less, and off-white/pinkish. Fades away pretty quick, leaves a ring. Lacing is little.

Smells is really of sweet raspberry and raspberry puree with some light tartness in there as well. Not much more than that. Really straight forward.

The taste is essentially all raspberries as well. Loads and loads of sweetness, light tartness hiding behind the sweet. Maybe a hint of sour as well. Again, pretty straight forward.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Crisp consistency, light-medium carbonation, light-medium body, and a moderate length finish.

Overall this is a nice beer but almost too sweet and a bit too straight forward for me. For what it is, it is a good beer, but I have a bit of a hard time finishing a 12oz serving, let alone a whole bottle. Definitely one to split. Very glad I got the chance to try this, though.

A: Luxuruous ruby color. Clear. Reminds me of cognac. One inch white fluffy head.
S: Raspberry jam. Not much else.
T: Raspberry jam. Has the same syrupy sweetness. Kind of biting acidity in the aftertaste, almost painful in the throat.
M: Has some body from residual sugars.
O: I was expecting for something better, honestly. This is too one-dimensional. The wonderful natural complexity of raspberries is just not here. This is a simple jammy fruit beer. Thank god it's at least the sweetness is restrained.

Big, wax-capped, 750ml bottle.

Poured a hazy, dark red color. Modest, very light pink/tan head. No legs, some lacing.

Aromas of raspberries (duh!). Touch of caramel.

Taste was more sweet than bitter at first, then a huge pucker sour. Vitamin C taste (acidic). Raspberry. Tartness, almost vinegar-like, but stops short.

Medium in body. Low carbonation. Not dry.

A fantastic beer for people who like fruit flavored and/or sour beers. Excellent raspberry flavor, quite sour as sip rolls across the tounge. Not my taste, but a well made beer.

T. Tart with lots of raspberry sweetness.

M. Medium body with medium level of carbonation.

D. I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as the two I split the bottle with. I was glad to try it, but I wouldn't be seeking it out again. My wife informed me that I will be seeking it out again for her, which is cool; I'm glad when she enjoys beers enough to have me seek them out.

Clear, burnt copper of moderate depth with crimson tones. The one finger head is tinged in dirty rose. Pleasant looking beer, though the foam is gone in but a few minutes. It follows that retention and lacing are pretty much nil.

A strong showing of raspberry is concentrated at the front of the aroma. Sweet, pureed raspberry especially. Beyond that are toasty notions of grains. A tad earthy with hints of hay and musty oak. The whole of the aroma levels as it warms; I like it better while cold.

I'm torn on the taste and feel. Tartness hits first, in moderation, but is followed by an intensely sticky, sweet raspberry presence. Way too sugary. Save for a down-played grain hint, other anything else is blanketed in raspberry sweetness and diminished by sugar. Thick, syrupy feel. Moderate carbonation is bogged down by the hefty feel.

I fully appreciate the application of the raspberries within the beer; it's most impressive in that the the berries actually come across as real, if not entirely fresh (at times it calls to mind concentrate). Many raspberry beers fall victim to an artificial characteristic that lessens the quality of the beer. Raspberry Tart doesn't have that problem but, man, it's out of control sweet.

This showcases a fine use of raspberries in brewing but the prospect of finishing the bottle by myself is daunting. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for quality craftsmanship but still, far too sweet for me.

This beer pours a lighter bodied bright bright red in color with a dirty pink head that turns into lacing around the glass. It smells and tastes of syrupy sweet and creamy raspberries. It's like a smoother version of the Lindeman's Framboise. There is a lot of jam and sugar. The carbonation stimulates all of your taste buds and teases it like you're going to experience some tartness but really all you get is sweetness. It's ok, just a lot of sugar. It's definitely nowhere near Blushing Monk territory. It drinks light with a good amount of carbonation that really fits the beer well. This is a dessert beer first and foremost and would pair very well with chocolates or chocolate cake. By itself, it's a little much.

Brown glass bottle with waxed over pressure cap served into a Guinness goblet in me gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Expectations are through the roof given the brewery.

Served straight from the refrigerator. Side-poured as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger beige-khaki colour head of good cream and thickness, and great retention. Body colour is a semitransparent translucent vibrant ruby-amber. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Tart raspberry, heavy fruit esters, pale malts, hints of cranberry, and hints of floral ester hops. An above average strength aroma.

T: Delightful tart sugary raspberry, great estery malts, and heavy sugary notes. Delightful clean fruit notes. Impeccably balanced. Incredibly well built. Diverse and evocative fruit.

Mf: Smooth, wet, perfectly carbonated, and featuring ideal thickness. Complements the flavour pretty well.

Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable. Hides its ABV well. I'd definitely have this again. Lives up to the hype. Another fantastic brew from New Glarus. Incredible.

A -Deep dark reddish brown color with an average lasting pinkish whitish head. Lots of lacing.

S - Raspberry, oak, light sweet malt aroma.

F/M - Raspberry, sweet candy like fruit flavors. Sweet malts. Light tart and light funky flavors. Little oak and vanilla too. Low bitterness with a clean dry finish. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

D - Very good. Sweet, tart, refreshing and full flavored. This is a well brewed beer.

A: Dark red color, similar to iced tea. Left a 1/2 finger white head. Barely any retention or lacing

S: Nose is mostly juicy fruit. Lots of raspberry, strawberry and cherry. That's kinda it though

T: Mostly fruit here. Like Juicy Juice with a very small hint of booze. Raspberry and strawberry are dominant fruit flavors

M: Medium bodied. More carbonation than I expected, leaving a brief tingle on the tongue. Fruit finish

D: A light fruit beer. First glass was ok, but was too sweet after that. Glad I split this was someone. As a side note, I added campagne to make a delicious beverage

Note from 8/7/11. Thanks to cmillward. A definite step up from the Belgian Red, but I still don’t quite understand all of the praise. Pours a transparent brownish ruby with no head, just a light smattering of bubbles on the surface, at first. Aroma is a nice mix of band-aid, juicy raspberry and earthy almost-funk. There’s less sweetness than the Red, which I appreciate, but still a bit too much, and a similar cough syrup note pops up in the taste. Mouthfeel is a bit syrupy, probably a shade less than the Red. It’s a beer that I sorta enjoy but couldn’t handle, much less want, anything more than a small glass. It’s probably a good choice for blending with stouts, if you want to explore that.

S: Smells more like a fruit juice than the usual raspberry jam-like sensation that framboises have. No strong funk, either.

T: The taste does have some of that jammy raspberry flavor, though. It's sweet, for the style, actually. However, the raspberry flavor is more fresh than with most raspberry beers I've tried (so, it's just the sweetness that's giving it the jam-like flavor).

M: Medium body. Low-medium carbonation.

O: One of the more unique raspberry beers, but I wish it was a lot more sour.

Poured a dark purple color with a small pink head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of straight raspberries, very intoxicating. Sour raspberry taste, also very sweet, with grape peel and some acidity. Obviously given the 4%, no alcohol noticed here.
