To be honest i really only go to this place for the food. This is a local place for me so if it wasent close i wouldn't go nearly as often. The food is good with your usual amarican fare. Ribs are always good as are there burgers and sandwiches. Service can be bad at some points due to big crowds and there new outdoor patio. Actually i was there lastweekend and it took over an hour to get our food. That's the first time that ever happens and hopefully the last.

As for the the beer, it leaves something to be desired. Four regulars (light, amber, pale) that are mediocre at best and the porter which has won metals at the GABF is pretty tasty. With usually one rotating seasonal, once you do a sampler you'll probably just go back to the porter like me. Your typical english style ales that i wish they would update or even change. If your in the neighborhood i would check it out but i wouldn't travel to far.

Saddled up to the bar for lunch after a visit to nearby Ken Lockwood Gorge. The building is a restored 200-year-old barn and makes for a relaxed setting to enjoy some food and drinks in. Six taps, all brewed in-house, although only five beers were on-tap when I was there; a Helles Lager, Altbier, IPA, ESB, and Porter. I had the Helles Lager and Altbier, both served in pint glasses, with the Altbier being the clear victor. A very accurate and traditional take on the Dusseldorf style. The bartender, Ariele, was extremely friendly as we chatted about trips to Europe, and beer, of course! Service was great, as was the food. Enjoyed the corned beef reuben sandwich. I'll be back again soon, hopefully on the patio for some day drinking in the sun.

Vibe: The place is located in a large restored barn and has an open but "homey" feel to it. There is a bar in the center and a bunch of TVs scattered around the outside walls. It also had an outdoor bar and seating area and looked like it could be a nice spot during the summer months.
Quality: Beers were served at the proper temperature using pint glasses.
Service: Our waitress was friendly and was knowledgeable about both the beer and food selections.
Selection: The place had six beers on tap: four of its year round beers and two seasonal selections. A flight of all six beers was also available.
Food: I stopped by in the late afternoon and tried Ginger-Soy Shrimp Dumplings as an appetizer and a French Dip sandwich as a main course. The food was rather tasty.

Really nice place. Probably the best aspect is the decor. Nice outside patio and bar. inside is beautifully restored and has an open flow to it. Very big selection on the food menu. My Kobe burger was ok, even a little disappointing. My wife really liked her sandwich. Onion rings were large and tasty. I started with a beer sampler. The lazy Jake porter and German amber stood out, so I had one of each. The rest were ok, not great. Overall worth visiting for the experience if not for the beer. We had a nice time.

Hidden in the rustic wilds of central New Jersey, within the quaint confines of historic Long Vallley, a neat little Colonial village that saw some action during a little dustup called the Revolutionary War (By George), Long Valley Brewpub is a small batch brewpub that provides award winning crafts to thirsty patrons beneath the sturdy rafters of an atmospheric stone structure that dates from 1771.

There is a roomy patio area, great for those warm spring days when the cool winds licks the back of your neck as you sip on a pint of their savory Lazy Jake Porter. Enter the double doors and you are faced with the small bar area, which is opposite the smiling brewing tanks ensconed behind a steaming glass window. To the right is a larger dining area where slobbering patrons stuff theri maws with vittles; on the left, a smaller room decorated with an inviting fireplace that must be magnificent during the hostile New Jersey winters. Upstairs, beneath the aforementioned rafters is another area in which the aforemetioned patrons can also slobber.

Looking at the row of taps, one detects an affinity for German beers - this neighborhood was once know as Germantown. (Hessians, anyone?)

The food is fresh and filling and the bartender was a friendly college student wonderfully endowed with breasts and a friendly smile.

Long Valley may be out of the way, but it is certainly a trip worth making. History and beer: perfect together. (Apologies to former Governor Tom Kean.)

Housed inside an old stone farmhouse, tons of exposed brick and wood beam work. Open feeling but warm and cozy at the same time. First floor has a decently sized bar in the center, flanked by dining areas on the left and right, the brewhouse exposed in the rear. Upstairs has another small bar and more seating. Big outdoor patio with bar and stage and ample seating. Only oddity is the placement of the many HD TVs in the interior.

4-5 House brews fairly light and straightforward. The porter the best of the bunch. Descriptions of other seasonals not currently available look promising. Food menu was expansive and covers burgers and sandwiches to steaks and such. Decently done, nothing spectacular. Service friendly and attentive.

Come for the atmosphere... everything else enough to keep you here a while.

One of the most spectacular settings and spaces for a brewpub. In the Schooley Mountain base in a restored 200 year old barn. Massive patio with gas heaters.

Two beers stood out for us the Lazy Jake Porter a slightly thin pour but a great blend of malted barley leads to a robust backbone and good body overall and the Marzen a lively hop and malt mix.

Food here is always topnotch. We love to hit this on the way home after a long day on the trail. The spicy ginger Calamari, and sesame ginger chicken wings are our favorite starters.
Cedar plank salmon, short rib gnocchi and homemade meatloaf are all amazing
Another pet peeve the clear glass screw top growlers.

A very nice looking place. I've been there twice thus far, the second time because a friend's band was playing there.

The atmosphere is nice - stone walls, old wooden tables, reminds you of an old school bar and grill. The female atmospheres are rather pleasant as well. The place has a nice hangout vibe, whether you're sitting at the bar or at a table.

The service is okay - the food takes awhile to come out once ordered, but is worth the wait. The steaks are incredible, the pasta sampler is just as good, and the appetizers are A Plus. The wait staff is a bit dodgy, though, and quick to blame slow service on the kitchen staff.

The beer selection is limited, as it's a brew pub, mostly serving their home-brewed stuff. Speaking of which, I found most, if not all of their beers a tad on the watery side. After the good food, that can be rather disappointing.

The food is darn good, and I have not had anything that I didn't like, including that which I picked off friends' plates.

The place is a bit on the pricey side, but I don't mind that, when the place has really good food and is stocked with attractive members of the opposite sex. I just wish it didn't take me over an hour's drive to get there.

While walking through the entrance, the bar greets you straight ahead. Since I was taking my girlfriend on a date, I didn't think it was romantic to sit at the bar, as much as I wanted to, we got a table. We got a seat right away since it wasn't busy.
The waitress was very nice, answered our questions about the food. She was very attentive, we were her only table but I've had servers forget I existed when they only had my table. She didn't seem like she was too knowledgeable about beer so I didn't engage her in a conversation about it.
I got the Lazy Jake Porter which was delicious! I made sure I got myself a growler fill of that before I left. Also tried their German Valley Ale which was pretty good.
The food was good, it seemed to be a little pricey though. I got a Turkey Burger which was tasty, a little smaller than I expected. The fries were homemade and I could tell, they were really good. My girlfriend got some kind of Macaroni dish that I tried, I should have also gotten that because that was delicious. It had a smoky ham flavor to it with visible pieces of smoked ham.
The look of the place is nice and it's a very old building; that just adds to the atmosphere. It was a little chilly next to the stone wall, I advise to request not to sit next to it. There is an upstairs but no one appeared to be up there. Overall it's a nice looking brewpub. It didn't seem like the place to be loud and obnoxious like some brewpubs I have been to. I didn't even recall a jukebox, which is good because you always get that one person who has to put some annoying song on. This is the place where you can bring a date or bring a buddy, have a few brews and relax. The Lazy Jake Porter is worth the trip alone so make sure you try that.

A - Approaching from the gigantic parking lot you are greeted with a new outdoor bar and an existing outdoor dining area with ~12 tables. The outdoor bar is a great addition, although the layout is somewhat ill conceived. Inside you are greeted with another bar and dining areas to the left and right. It's a big space, not terribly stylish or interesting. Simple wooden floors and basic tables that reflect the pub style where most NJ BPs are more industrial style. It can get loud and there is live music some nights so it's not prime date territory but it's good for a medium sized group.

Q - The appearance doesn't suggest that your going to get a culinary masterpiece in the place but the quality is good for what they serve. Beer is solid and the food is good for the price.

S - Service is fine, it can go either way really. Most staff don't seem to know the beer and make odd suggestions and they don't read the specials or anything. Come and take the order and keep the glasses filled.

S - The menu is a good size although I never seem to find anything that really pops. Standard pub fare, burgers and average entrees. Beer selection is usually 6+ brews, sometimes something on the handpump.

F - All the food is decent, again nothing really pops but you get what you order and it's priced right.

Becoming our go to spot although it's a little far it is much cheaper than our favorite BP chain. Try the Lazy Jake Porter on the handpump if you get a chance, good stuff.

What a senic ride just to get to the place. We had beatened the dinner crowd there so we go a seat right next to the fireplace. The building is from 1771 all fieldstone and big exposed timbers great atmosphere. Note we were there when it was 19 degrees outside, do not sit next to the stone walls very cold. Sevice was excetional. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the beer he served and we never waited for a beer. Food was good but it was early and one had their classic burger and I the bison burger both were good. We will be going back.

Stopped in today totally unexpected while eating after a church service with family we were visiting. Beautiful location in an out of the way area in an attractive two story timber building.

We sat upstairs and had the brunch, which was both terrific and varied. It was before noon on a Sunday and I was with my wife and in-laws and surrounded by family so I didn't sample the brew there but did pick up a growler of the supposedly excellent Lazy Jake Porter for inspection later. It ended up being pretty good.

Overall a quality place, although not cheap or terribly easy to get to.

Went here for my birthday with a few friends last February. Made the mistake of not considering it was also Valentine's Day weekend (should have went on my actual B-day and not the weekend).
Took an hour to get a table even with a reservation. No complaints regarding the servers; wasn't their fault. Apparently they were just not prepared for the holiday, poor management in my opinion.
Now for the good stuff...
Food was truly great; I had a combo of pumpkin ravioli, a seared strip steak and a creme brule for desert.
Beer, however, forgettable at best. The light tasted the same as the pale ale and almost the exact same as the Amber Ale. They must not alter the recipes very much or use only 1 kind of hops for all their beers. The porter was good but also nothing to write home about. The savior/all-star was the Chocolate Stout, which was very very good. It was a seasonal so I don't know when it's coming back.
Overall, good food with a brewery which seems like an after thought. Kind of out of the way if your not a local. NJ has much better brewpubs: Triumph, Trap Rock and Harvest Moon just to name a few.

I've hit this place twice; used to live just down 513.

It is a nice mountainous and wooded view from anywhere you sit (yes, in New Jersey) and a colonial inn atmosphere.

I had both a sampler and several individual beers including their rye beer, stout, amber ale - and found them to be very standard. None of the beers were bad, but they also were not memorable.

Service was attentive but once no one was particularly knowledgeable about the beer. I tend to focus on this if going to an establishment mainly for the beer.

The food was a bit pricey and in my opinion was only average especially at the cost. Their wurst platter was pretty good. I would return there but don't make it a priority stop. However given that regions deficit of brewpubs, it makes for a worthwhile trip if in the area.

I stopped in on Wednesday, which was the first day of the Yankees-Phillies World Series. More than a few patrons were getting tuned in for the game. the crowd was very friendly and lively - unless you walked in with a Phillies jersey on.

I ordered a Lazy Jake Porter. They had 6 beers on tap, 2 seasonals (a pumpkin ale and Oktoberfest), the Lazy Jake, the Hookerman's Lite, and 2 I can't remember. I was really hoping to try the Coffee Stout, but it was not available.

I had the salad wedge - it was great, and the 1/2 roasted chicken, which was ok, but I wouldn't order it again or recommend it.

I would definitely stop by again. It looks like they put out some really good beers once in awhile. Service was ok, the barkeep seemed a bit annoyed at times, but it was a tough crowd.

i stopped in on a slow Firday night. I tried three pints (ESB, Porter and Stout). I also sampled the Jersey Hop Ale, which is a seasonal replacement for the American Ale.
The Stout was my favorite, I like a Porter with a little more body, but that is the brewers choice.
The food and service at the bar was very good. As I was leaving a guitarist started playing in the back, but was drowned out by the crowd noise.

I would definitely recommend this brewpub to anyone traveling along I-78. It is about 10 north of exit 24.

I loved the atmosphere in this renovated old stone and wood building with an open two story floor plan inside and a torch lit stone patio out front. There's a smallish wooden bar on the first floor that is centrally located and surrounded with flat screens. The TV's were divided between NYY baseball and poker on the Tuesday night that I stopped in. For dinner, I was torn between the Alaskan Cod Fish & Chips or the Best of the Wurst, w/German style potato salad and slaw. I went with the later and wasn't disappointed.

There were six beers on tap: Hookerman's Light, American Pale Ale, German Valley Amber, Lazy Jake Porter, an ESB as the feature beer and the Stone Barn Stout is the seasonal. I tried the stout and the porter and both were excellent.

I really enjoyed my visit here. The atmosphere, the food and the beer were all excellent. I will go out of my way to come back here again.

Housed in a beautifully restored farmhouse, this brewpub is the prettiest of the 14 currently in operation in NJ. The service is both knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is very good. It also seemed very family-oriented, as I probably saw more little children running around than at any other brewpub; this is the only reason why I didn't give it a '5' for atmosphere. They have an outdoor patio in the summertime, which is totally relaxing. When it comes to beer, they make the grand champion of porters in the state of NJ (and possibly many other locales), in the form of the Lazy Jake Porter (A+). Other good standouts include the American Pale Ale (B+) and the Double Chocolate Stout (B+). All in all, the experience is well worth the trip to this relatively out-of-the-way spot.

The building is a converted stone barn, and has really been converted well. The back room displays all of the brewing apparatus. There are two bars, one on the main level, and one upstairs. Service is spotty at both.

The beer is consistently good. Pairs well with some of the pub fare as well as the oftentimes gamey table fare. I'm a big fan of the lazy jake porter. Also a big fan of the cask conditioned when it's available.

When weather permits, outside dining and drinking is available on a decent sized patio. Service tends to be even slower outside though.

Overall a great place to unwind, grab some good food and grog, and spend a couple hours with friends or family.

I've always heard about this place but had the opportunity to go in early October (2008). Attractive open barn setting, very bright bar area. Very crowded, very noisy and lots of kids and families (including mine). I don't think I'd ever go there simply to drink beer.

Service was slow, and the waiter knew little about beer, but the on-premises brews were well described on the laminated card that was presented with the long paddle-like sampler which contained 6 samples, about 4 oz each of each of their current on tap offerings. Aside from their light beer (why offer it), most of their brews were good...very drinkable, but unremarkable. I liked the Lazy Jake Porter and the German Valley Amber the best, and took home a growler of the latter for (yikes) $20. (refills are $12)

The German Wurst platter was very tasty, however the pub steak I brought home via takeout for my wife was very lame. Total bill for the sampler, the growler, the wurst, the takeout and 2 kids chicken finger lunches plus tip was $100. Thats a lot of dough. I'd definately go back if in the area, but will not go out of my way to make the 1 hour drive from my house anytime soon.

This place changes chefs and management often and I haven't been there in over a year so my review may not be very reflective of this establishments current state of affairs.

Best part about this brew pub is the ambiance and atmosphere. Warm woods, fireplace, lodge like space with tables spread out over 2 floors. Food was average at a fair price last year. Beer is also fairly standard but still enjoyable. I liked there nut brown ale, winter brew and copper myself. They do classic beer samplers on wooden serving pieces. They used to do growlers but I think that might have ceased. A spot to check out at least once if you are in the area.

I tried three of their beers, and all were solid but not outstanding. Just traditional recipes and styles executed in a very competent way. The food was a little disappointing. The calamari was not great, and somehow it came out about 1 minute after we ordered it so it must have already been fried. At least the bison burger was tasty and desserts were good as well.

My friends and I have been going here since before we were of age. Several years ago, and even to now, the waitstaff have been very pleasing on the male eye. And we swore that when we were 21 we would come here and each get the sampler that comes to the table on, essentially, a fraternity paddle.

The atmosphere feels cozy no matter what time of year. It is an expansive open barn feel. Light rough hewn wood surrounds the rustic stone work (it is an old grist mill). It is best felt in the winter with the snow resting outside. But, in the summer, they have a large slatework patio to enjoy the warmer with with. The bar sits in the middle of the place, not really large enough in my opinion. The staff, not matter how attractive, are attentive and pleasing. The bar tenders are informative and willing to show their personalities.

The food is very good, if somehwat pricey, but the portions are hearty, so that makes up for it. The salads are tremendous and incredible.

Around the place are banners of all the awards won by the beers. Although, these laurels are starting to get aged -- some are 10 years old at this point. The beers reflect that 10 year old trophy attitude in my opinion. They are all good representations of their styles, but nothing outstanding. 10 years ago at the emergence of public awareness to craft and microbreweries, they could have been above average, however now they are just pleasing. The Lazy Jake Porter remains well above average, as does the seasonal oatmeal stout. They offer seasonals, none of which are altogether spectacular. My girlfriend ordered the summer seasonal which was prescribed as a beer one who likes Blue Moon would enjoy, it was a rye wheat beer. It was bitter, dry, and refreshing. I enjoyed it, she didn't.

Overall, it is a place I enjoy frequenting. A bit obscure to locate at first, but a good place to keep returning to.

Edit:2.3.09: 20 initial price for a growler is a little steep, but 12 dollar refills thereafter.

This was stop #245 on my quest to visit every quality brewpub in North America.

It was totally random given the fact that I usually plan brewpub visits well in advance when I travel. I was in Northern Jersey on business and on the drive back from our presentation, I typed in BREWERY in my Garmin and Long Valley was two miles away. Let's do it.

One of the most charming and rustic brewpubs I've visited. The BA picture in the snow does the place total justice. The only drawback was a slight odor of sewer gas - not a good thing for a restaurant.

I'm on a kick for large samples and the very fine looking blond bartender set me up with the pale ale, porter, and I think it was a chocolate stout. I had to drive so I passed on the imperial stout. The porter won awards in the last decade and was very good. The stout was fine and the pale ale ok.

I'm not sure what else is in the area and it's well worth the visit if you can make it. A nice place to take a group that may not be beer geeky but would appreciate the location and accessible beers.

My wife and I discovered Long Valley by accident. We were going pumpkin picking. It has become a tradition. We frequent this place, but whenever we are going apple, pumpkin, strawberry picking we always stop by. The food is good but not a reasonable as it used to be.

They are a good selection of beer. Something for everybody. I prefer the darker beers. The Lazy Jake Porter is a favorite of mine. We were last there October 13th, 2007. Two of the seasonals were an oatmeal stoudt and their Stone Barn Stoudt (a dry stoudt). Both were fantastic. I loved the oatmeal and my wife loved the dry stoudt. She said it was the best dry stoudt she had ever had...next to Guiness.

Worth the Drive.

Long Valley Pub- Long Valley, NJ

Stopped off here on a Sat. afternoon on my way home from Krogh's in Sparta. Long Valley Pub is located on Fairmont Rd. Just up the road from Tewksbury. About 30-40 minutes from my house. Slighty off the beatn path but that adds to its charm!
Anyway, The LV pub is the nicest looking Brewpub I've been in. You walk in to what looks like a Country Club/ Golf Club club house. Beautiful stone interior with high vaulted wooden slat roof, wood and iron wrought railings. The bar is dead center when you walk in. Some tables are on the 1st floor but most are upstairs. The restrooms are located downstairs. The brewing tanks are in view from the bar. Most people that where here on my stop were eating, but the bartenders friends came in the fill growlers and bs.

Overall- Didn't eat here but the beer was from average to very good. Happy hours areat 4pm weekdays!! I'll be coming here more often!!
