Appearance - This beer is a nice dark yellow almost brownish. Mild carbonation and mostly clear. Decent head when served, and very nice lacing.

Smell - The beer was served cold, and I could not detect much smell at all.

Taste - Smooth with a slightly bitter zing at the finish. A decent, if almost metallic overall flavor.

Mouthability - A very thin and light beer.

Drinkability - Just okay. Overall, just not a very distinctive or notable beer.

Another good looking beer by Long Valley that fails to deliver much more than a pretty look and a whole lot of middle-of-the-road blandness. I’m sorry, I’ve visited this place a half dozen times as I’m often in the area and I’m pulling for them to make something great but it just doesn’t happen. They clearly play it safe, target the BMC crowd, and do a very nice business, but the craft aficionado will struggle to find anything to get excited about here.

Pours pale gold with good clarity, a big white head that settles slowly, and excellent sheets of creamy lace. Aroma is strangely absent; a bit of graininess, generic sweet malt, and very trace amounts of citrus and pine hop notes. Flavor is much the same, just a bit overly sweet for the style, very subdued citrus and pine hops, even for an old school pale. Low bitterness, fairly dry in the finish. Medium-light body, medium carbonation, fairly crisp and clean. Utterly forgettable.

Wanted something assertive to go with the wings (which were pretty damn awesome), so I ordered the APA, which I figured would be the hoppiest they had to offer that day. Even though nothing else promised much of a hop bomb, this one underwhelmed in its hop presence and mouthfeel.

The color is pretty light (about 13 SRM), it's clear and the head is thin and an off-white. So it IS a pale ale.

Very unassertive nose on this beer and you have to give it a few gos to sense the hops and the malts. The hops come through as piny and fruity, seeming a bit juicy. The malts are caramel, balancing the hops.

In the taste the malts turn nutty and the hops get a bit woodsy. One of the few beers I've had that tastes a LOT better than it smells. Really enjoyable taste, but that's really undermined by the watery mouthfeel. This is one of the thinnest APA's I've ever had. This makes it exceptionally drinkable, but as a friend pointed out, so is water.

You could easily drink this beer all evening long and enjoy it, but it's a not a bog beer by any stretch.

Served in a shaker pint. Almost no head due to a careful pour, medium amber. The nose has honey and biscuit over light citrus. Decently balanced.

The taste is slightly sweet malt, with biscuit followed by mild hops. Maybe 30 IBUs on its best day. Light bodied with moderate carbonation, and low alcohol content makes it drinkable, but it's sort of dissapointing as a pale ale.

Toss a few handfuls of Cascade, then Amarillo at the end of the boil, and then we're talking.

A: Golden caramel color with active carbonation, white head with medium frothing.

S: Classic west coast hops, citric, pine, with a touch of grapefruit. Biscuit malts follow close behind.

T: Crisp hops, lightly floral with pine and then a soft malt character to even things out. A mild residual bitterness clings.

M: Crisp.

D: A decent sessionable APA. Growler deal is ok. 12$ refills.
