500ml bottle 5,2% Abv.
Served chilled in an over sized wine glass.
Best Before: 19/10/2013
Appearance: Maisel’s Weisse pours a murky golden-orange colour, with a rough pour generating a large off white head. The head lasts acceptably well and leaves a few patches of lacing.
Smell: Mmmm, this actually smells quite nice. Big banana notes dominate the nose, with a little clove spicing, some sweet citrus, a little peach and some pale malt also present.
Taste: Sadly the flavor is quite a lot weaker than the nose and not quite as complex. Notes include: Banana, a little clove spicing, a touch of peach and some pale grain.
Mouthfeel: Weizens are one of the few styles in which I enjoy a high level of carbonation, so the high level here is just about right. Unfortunately the carbonation is nowhere near as it should be and is almost reminiscent of that in a pale lager! The body is light with a watery finish.
Overall: Maisel’s is a decent weizen, but not one I would buy again.
EDIT: I had this one again and the mouthfeel was a little better - enough to upgrade the score from a 2.75 to a 3.25.

Looks great with two fingers of head on a darker straw colored body, a few bubbles are visible.
The aroma is nice: grain and hay.
The taste is fairly malty with a moderate bitterness. A bit different for the style, but good.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation.
Enjoyable, but not a traditional hefeweizen.

A: The beer is clear dark yellow in color with some hints of amber and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are strong aromas of bananas in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is filled with flavors of bananas and also has some notes of wheat and hints of clove.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is a little fruitier (with lots of bananas) compared to other German hefeweizens but is still easy to drink.

A: Slightly hazy medium orange-gold color, with a nice fluffy white head. Loads of visible carbonation.
S: Some spicy hop scents mingling on the nose with notes of alcohol. Light clove scents pop out.
T: Very very light flavors that are hardly noticeable or identifiable. There is a cardboard like flavor to the beer, and some mild spice flavor in the aftertaste. A little bit of big-league chew on the back.
M: The mouthfeel is very light and well carbonated. It is very easy to drink.
O: Overall I thought the beer was fairly average. It just lacked the freshness and pop of flavor that comes from a good Hefeweizen. Mainly it lacked the fresh grain flavor that comes from a good Hefe, as well as pronounced phenols and spice. It is an import, and the bottle is stamped with 26 G 12 07:30, so I'm guessing the 12 is 2012 which would mean it's not the freshest. I probably wouldn't buy it again unless I was getting it in Europe. It's still a very decent beer, and better than many non-imported offerings in the US. It was very drinkable, and would suit nearly any occasion a light-bodied beer is called for.

on-tap @ Belmont Station: tulip pint.
from notes.
Hazy, golden orange with a thick, billowy off white head.
Weizen yeast, faint clove and banana in both the nose and taste.
Medium body, with foamy carbonation.
An enjoyable Hefeweizen. Fairly standard, well done flavor profile, with an enjoyable body.

500 mL bottle with freshness date. What a pretty beer! Poured a slightly darker amber brown, strongly hazy, not the biggest head for a hefe, maybe a couple fingers of soft creamy head but really good retention and lacing. Yeast was incorporated.
Smell has a strong presence of pink bubblegum, right outta the wrapper. Sweet lemon and apple, slightly yeasty. A lot of wheat malt, mild banana not too noticeable. Some sweetness also.
Taste has upfront bubblegum, strongly present. Nice firm malty body with a softness to it. Banana comes through with a nice leafy note, and a nice yeasty spicy bite, banana bread sweetness on the finish. A touch of bitterness, clove spice, bit of wood. Finish is crisp, mildly spicy, and really solid. Tasty.
Mouthfeel is pleasant, smooth carbonation. Light bodied and soft. Refreshing and true to style, finish is really crisp which I like. Some mild banana on finish. Really drinkable.
This is tasty beer. However I did find it swung a bit strongly toward the bubblegum end, this becomes marginally improved as it warms a bit, but it dominated the beer a bit I found. That said, there's quite a bit going on otherwise and a pretty nice drinkable character. Not as complex as some, and not my favourite of this style, but it is still a good hefe and I'd have it again.
