a total winner, this is one of the best schlafly brews ive tasted. wow, this is a fantastic glass of beer. it pours an impenetrable dark brown with the faintest notes of red in the head, which is otherwise khaki in color and maybe just half an inch tall. the pour is generous at the taproom, filling my globe almost to the rim. I smell a ton of fresh picked berries in this, taking center stage in a monster stout, with major earthy roasty notes and all the cocoa character you can imagine, like a real gourmet dessert, I cannot wait to sip this. ahhh, bang, tart fresh raspberries really come through this big beer, not sure how they pulled that off, but they sweeten up otherwise very bitter dark roasted barley and a coffee grounds sort of flavor. very low acidity, very high drinkability for what this is. very little alcohol burn, almost deceptive. big body obviously, but this drinks pretty smoothly. I just love the powerful fresh fruit aromatics and flavors piercing through such a bold beer, it is uncommon and distinct, and a testament to the brewing prowess of one of the st Louis greats. this is not to be missed, and should probably be shared if youre driving...

A: Poured into a snifter glass. Dark brown/black with a half-inch off-white head
S: Lots of raspberry up front with some cocoa notes
T: Chocolate covered raspberries, roasted malt
M: Light carbonation, medium body
O: Very good. According to the brewer, this stout was the result of a batch of their Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout that tasted slightly out of specifications and thus couldn't be marketed as their usual BBIS. They added raspberry puree to the bourbon barrel and this is the result. Surprisingly easy to drink stout. Doesn't taste like a 10.5%. Highly recommended.
