On tap at the Flying Saucer in Little Rock, AR

A: Pours a clear golden/orange/amber color. A two finger white head forms, and gently recedes. Good lace is left behind.
S: Wow, there is a huge fresh cut grass aroma. Ridiculously fresh, and floral aromas. Piny hops and grapefruit bitterness lingers. An awesome nose.
T: Follows the nose with a big fresh, floral, cut grass flavor. That is very enjoyable. Resiny and piny in the finish, which might be just a bit to much. Overall, enjoyable.
M/D: A medium to full body. Medium carbonation. Though a big resiny character detracts a bit. Not hard to drink, though with the resinous character and alcohol makes this a sipper.

This is not a huge beer, but just enough resinous body and alcohol to make this a sipper. Still very enjoyable, even for the non hop head. Plenty of hops, but not overbearing. Again, enjoyable.

Served on-tap in a Shaker pint at Beer Run (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Hazy medium-amber with short 1/2-finger cap of off-white head with good stickiness and several crusty lines of lacing.

S: Huge juicy tropical and citrus aromas jump from the glass with passionfruit, mango, and pineapple joining red grapefruit pith and orange. The malt aroma profile is pretty light with very mild bready caramel.

T: The flavor of this beer is out of site and this is a definite top-tier IPA (and it is priced like one as well). The tropical fruit aromas of this Galaxy-hopped brew are less aggressive and seem better integrated than in other single hop beers. That doesn't mean that this isn't a hoppy beer because it very much is -- but it is not a hammer but more of a feather with nuances of grapefruit, pineapple, passionfruit, orange, lemon, and mango tickling you with combinations of flavors that are new and different. The maltiness is restrained and designed to stay out of the way of the hops, although the malt backbone is there-- there is some light caramel but mostly crackery, bready maltiness.

M: There is a great balance of slickness and creaminess in this brew. It has relatively low carbonation with low bitterness and firm medium body. Alcohol is hidden and it is very drinkable.

O: Tasmanian IPA from Schlafly is a superb American IPA -- definitely make a point to give this beer a try fresh. It presents a wonderful balance of tropical and citrus hops with a variety of tones on a solid but background light maltiness to really stand out as one of the most surprising beers of the year. I had a Lagunitas Sucks on-tap right after it, which is a beer I Ioved from the bottle, and it was no contest - Tasmanian blasted it out of the water.

Draft service into a goblet at The Flying Saucer in Kansas City.

A: Clear, medium golden color with one finger of diminishing white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.

S: Hops are featured in the smell, though not as intensely as the flavor might suggest. Mostly floral with pithy grapefruit.

T: Begins dry, with pungent tropical fruit that is over-ripe and funky. Crackery malt follows into the middle, austere in the wake of the early hops assault. Aromatics never fade entirely, tasting alternately green-herbaceous oniony, and awesomely funky. Acidity is moderate the transition, as is bitterness at the end. Slight phenolic taste is revealed as the beer warms in the glass.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: A fine IPA featuring a very modern hops profile. Galaxy hops are not wasted here, although they do not appear as clean as they could be. This beer presents a different experience when bottled, with a much fruitier nose that will require a separate review.

A-nice cloudy gold with a nice frothy white head

S-an awesome scent of tropical fruits and fresh hops. Not such a great strength though. Fairly subtle.

T-comes in with a really decent flavor of tropical fruits and hops. Really it's like a hoppy fruit punch. It's a good mix of the two, though I'd like to see a stronger hops presence. It's really not bitter too much either, only a little bit in the after-taste. It's a fun tasting beer though.

M-dry medium carbonation with a dry finish

O-it's a good IPA. A lot of focus on the fruitiness which isn't a terrible turn from the norm. Even still, I'd prefer a bit more bitterness and hoppiness. An easy drinker for sure. Go out and try some!

Enjoyed at the brewpub in St Louis, reviews from notes.

A: 1.5 finger head with excellent lacing on a clear dull golden body.

S: many citrus notes present including tangerine peach pineapple and orange peel. Nice strong, full nose

T: hops are broad with herbal earthy and citrus notes. Nice malt, more of a pale malt, presence and mild bitterness.

M: creamy body and moderate carbonation

Overall: complex hop character. Best beer of the ones I tried.

This came to me as a 20 oz. draft in a mug. Lucky me and thanks to the bartender for pointing out this new offering.

In the looks department, the IPA is gorgeous crystal clear deep yellow-gold topped with a finger and a half of meringue-like head, reducing slowly to a form lasting cap and exemplary lacing.

The aroma hit me before the glass his the bar, wafting fresh floral and citrus hops and a bit of honey-ish sweetness that was almost tactile in quality.

The flavor was lots of fun and mixed freely with the nose in a potpourri of fruity yeast, malt, and very fresh hops, just ever so delicately piney. Everything about the flavors evoked freshness an to me evoked a garden or orchard like essence.

A medium body and just the right amount of carbonation rounded out this glass fairly perfectly.

Overall very well-balanced in all aspects. I have been impressed with several other Schlafly offerings, and this Tasmanian IPA is the best so far. I will be going back for more of this one.

Poured from tap into snifter at the bottleworks in stl. Pours a clear golden with a thin head. The look is its biggest downfall. Smell is just amazing. Sweet citrus hops. Pineapple and cotton candy just fill the nose. Wow.
Taste is just like it smells and is fantastic. Add a bit of malt to the aromas and boom...tipa.
So smooth and creamy...the mouthfeel is just perfect. Wow. What a superb beer!
Its just one malt and one hop but wow what a fantastic brew.

Appearance: pours a straw golden pilsener color with a.quick fading head. Good lacing.

Nose: galaxy is supposedly new Zealand grown Citra and it smells like it. Tropical citrus with a mild grassy undertone. Hops are the star.

Taste: really, really good. Light, pale malt. Hops steal the show. Slightly sweet. Very tropical and citrusy with that same slight grassiness. Bitterness is present but relatively low. Obviously big on the late hop additions and dry hop.

Feel: well-carbed. Light to medium body.

Overall: delicious. Great showcase for a great hop. The hops are the star and they really perform.

Schlafly ups their game in the highly competitive IPA market by celebrating the newly available Galaxy hops. With its simplified grain bill, the beer showcases this tropical and citrus-forward hop in all its glory.

Tasmanian IPA opens with a brightly lit orange-amber glow. An even hop haze diffuses the light and gives the beer a very inviting color. Capped with a frothy eggshell white head, the beer retains and laces as steadily as could be expected. This is one handsome looking beer!

Juicy aromas of citrus fruit, coupled with tropical fruits evoke a mouthwatering reation. Full of vibrancy, the supporting malts give a sweeter caramel scent to accompany the impressions of fructose and pleasant acidities.

As the beer starts malty and semi-sweet to taste, the light caramel and honey flavors draw in the hops. Red grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple, mangoes, and apricots are just a few of the hop-induced flavors to be found from these sultry Galaxy hops. Malt sweetness keeps the fruit flavors seeming juicy, vibrant, and sweetly ripened. The balance of the beer tilts heavy toward the hops as the dialogue of malt to hops remain the focus, and without any distraction from outside.

Medium bodied to start, the early carbonated, malty creaminess develops into a dry-malt mid palate before turning moderately resinous and cleanly bitter to finish. Its dry character further keeps the emphasis on hop dominance- just as it should be.

The simplicity of this beer is also its charm. The thin caramel taste of 2-row malt and the stand-up complexities of Galaxy hops carry this beer from sip to finish with ease and boldness. Where brewers are tempted to over engineer the recipe or take shortcuts in technique, its refreshing to see that simplicity and confidence are still fashionable. Thanks Schlafly!

Pours a clear golden color with a solid half inch cream head that leaves a solid sheet of lacing to the rim.

Floral hops mingle with fresh cut grass, pine, and grapefruit, overwhelming the subtle cracker-like malt backbone.

Flavor reveals more malt character, slightly sweet and bready, with a fairly dry, slightly bitter finish. Skunky hops, with notes of lime, grapefruit, herbal hops, and a bit of catty dankness add complexity.

Body is is moderate, with carbonation on the high side of moderate, and a somewhat astringent finish.

Overall, a nice, hoppy brew, with substantial malt backbone. Less citrusy than most, more dank, skunky focus.

A very light yellow colored beer with a white 1 finger head and small amounts of lacing

Very sweet hoppy smell , floral and earthy and sweet

Very nice smooth mouthfeel to this brew , very enjoyable

Very nice tasting beer , the hops the malt and the yeast all come together very well , just a great example of an American IPA that is very balanced , will be purchasing this every year when it comes out

Yellowish in color with a cloudy body, this beer features a nice, frothy head of white foam that holds its own for some time. The nose on this beer is fruity all the way, with scents of pineapple, orange peel, grapefruit, and more emanating from your glass.

As for the taste, this beer seems to be firing on all IPA cylinders in its own unique way. The flavor, like the nose, emphasizes the tastes of different fruits with pineapple and citrus standing out above the rest. There are other tropical fruit flavors to behold but the beer also offers some nice biscuit and toasted malt flavors before returning once again to the flavor of fruity hops.

IPA are often fruity in nature, but this beer is even fruitier than most and both its flavor and appearance are unique for the style. Its flavor is almost like that of a cask- drawn beer and its taste is second to none for any style. I know that they brew this beer with Australian hops and that accounts for much of the interesting flavor. It is the type of beer that could be consumed very quickly and the alcohol could really sneak up on you if you’re not careful.

This is certainly a one-of-a-kind beer and I am glad I took the time to give it a try. It belongs in a class all by itself and I recommend finding it and sampling if you happen to be in the state of Missouri.

Appearance: Pours a golden yellow color…about a finger width, white head formed and lasted…hazy and not overly transparent…livens up nicely when I swirl it around…(4/5)

Smell: Tons of pineapple and grapefruit emanating from the glass as soon as I poured it…light and zesty…orange, tangerine and tropical fruits also very apparent…mildly sweet, there is some grassy and biscuity notes balancing things out…mildly floral, but nothing too powerful, this is a citrus hops dominant IPA…(4/5)

Taste: Orange, pineapple, grapefruit, mango and general tropical fruit tones right away with a noticeable grassiness to it…malts are mildly sweet and biscuity and play a background role…some lemon zest in there as well…a touch of musty yeast lingers after I swallow…fantastic! (4.25/5)

Mouthfeel: Light body, light carbonation…some fluff does form bringing a bit of lemon peel bitterness to the palate…the light body is refreshing and overall, mildly bitter considering it’s an IPA…light lemony/pineapple citrus flavor with a touch of bitterness lingers in the after taste…one of the lightest mouthfeels for an IPA I’ve ever had…(3.75/5)

Overall: This is a good brew and I wish I had more than one…the “T” in T.I.P.A. stands for Tasmanian, signaling this ale was made with 100% Australian hops…I found it while traveling through Kentucky, though it’s made in STL, and picked it up on a mix-a-six rack…this is a quintessential summertime brew with it’s super light, drinkable and refreshing nature…I’m not sure if or when I’ll be seing this again, but I highly recommend picking this up if you see it…this bottle was born in 12/12 and seeing as it’s made with Australian hops, it may be strictly a winter seasonal…even though it’s 3 months old now, I found the flavor to be fresh and zesty and well worth picking up even at this late date…if you see this floating around in your area, pick it up and enjoy…(4/5)

12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy straw color. The head is a two finger white shade with a nice, creamy texture. As per usual in the style, it leaves rings of lacing as it recedes down the glass.

S: I really like the tropical fruit bend this one offers. Augmenting the fruitiness is some herbal pine characteristics. Sadly, it's nowhere near as showstopping as it could be (or probably was; the bottle's over 2 months old), largely due to a lot of biscuity malt shining through.

T: A lot of melon, mango, papaya, and guava appears at first, before spiking in intensity at the midtaste. The finish introduces a moderately bitter, peppery bite that's almost minty at times. For a two month old IPA featuring a feeble malt backbone, this is downright fantastic.

M: Light and crisp, yet with a surprising level of creaminess to meld with the smooth yet firm carbonation. The flavors leave the palate quickly as they should in an IPA of this nature. Almost supremely refreshing; if the finishing astringency was cleaned up a smidge, I'd reckon the score here would be even higher.

O: The apex of this offering's hop profile may have been lost - but the thirst-quenching, easy drinking demeanor definitely hasn't. I'd seriously consider buying this by the case when it's fresh and in season.

Bottle poured into a snifter

Mazy, hazy golden . Three fingers of foam that gently settle down with nice lacings on the glass. Lacings hold on as I drink down the glass.

Grapefruit! Wonderful citrus bouquet of fresh squeezed grapefruit. Faint, tiny carbonation.

Smooth , crisp clean taste of citrusy hops. Clean finish with a slight bitterness at the end. Nice , light to medium weight.

I prefer malty beers but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste, smell and appearance of this Tasmanian IPA. A good beer that I would enjoy again.

S: Fruit, melon, floral
T: Tropical fruit punch with a definite bitterness at the back of the tongue. A slightly sweet graininess underneath. The hops linger a little bit, but it is very easy to go back for more.
M: Very crisp and a lot of carbonation, not a sipping beer.
O: A dangerously drinkable 7% beer, it tastes like I could drink a 6-pack in one sitting. Just looked at the website, says this is just 2-row and Galaxy hops, I now know why everyone loves Galaxy. A truly delicious IPA, highly recommended. I hope this becomes an annual thing.

A - Pours a nearly transparent golden yellow color. A thin white head dies to a speckled film quickly. It does leave behind a nice lacing. Unimpressive in appearance, but that has never stopped me before.

S - Tropical fruits, light ritz cracker malts, and lemon zest. The hops are some combination of citrus/tropical and grassy hops that come off almost minty. Interesting and complex.

T - Follows the nose closely. Big tropical fruits, peach, grapefruit, and honey contribute to the sweet and fruity dynamic. Drying pine and mildly bitter grass balance. Crisp finish.

M - Subtle carbonation and a smooth, cask-like feel. The body is middle of the road, suitable for the style.

O - I passed this one up for the last month or so, not realizing it had such stellar reviews on this site. Good tropical aromas and flavors. While it is a quality IPA, I wasn't wowed by it. If I see it on the shelf fresher than 3 months old, I will give it another shot. Otherwise, there are too many better IPAs out there to buy this one regularly.

Poured from the bottle into a standard pint glass.

The beer pours a cloudy golden color with just a small amount of white head. The head fades quickly to a ring around the pour. The smell is light and hoppy with a rather strong fruity note. The hops remind me of citrus juice. Citrus peel and pine attack your tongue when you take a sip. The hops are dominant, but the malt really picks it up towards the finish. I really enjoy the hop profile of this beer. There is a lot more carbonation in this beer than I would have guessed from seeing the pour.

I must admit that Schlafly has not done a lot to impress me over the years. As a result, I passed by Tasmanian IPA when I saw it at the liquor store. Only when I had it at a brewfest was I impressed, and consequently bought a six pack. From one of those bottles, I write this review.

From the bottle into a pint glass, the beer was a light straw color with a white head. It demonstrated generalized lacing and retention on the sides of the glass. The aroma was a combination of citrus and peach skin. The aroma was not overpowering, but well-balanced. In the initial taste, one detects peach, pine, and a mild resin flavor. The malt backbone is well disguised but there is a generalized sweetness that compensates for a lack of maltiness. In the aftertaste, the peach and citrus continues, but the resin comes to the forefront making this one a little more bitter. The linger of the hop afterbite is a little suprising because the beer runs a little this. Easily, this is the best thing Schlafly makes and probably a top ten single IPA for me.

A- poured into an imperial pint. Pours a pale straw, almost yellow color, similar to a light lager. Thick and rocky white head with retention that lasts forever, leaving some lace behind

S- fresh citrus juice from the Tasmanian hops, muddled mint sprigs and a bit of oily hop resin

T- malts are quite sweet and weren't detected in the smell, however I detect no breadiness. hops are citrusy, minty and piney. The finish is dry-yet-sweet with a sharp citrus hop bitterness. ABV is hidden pretty well, just a bit of heat on the backend

M- medium body and carbonation turns to a foamy mouthfeel with a warming smooth finish

O- solid IPA, drinks like a DIPA, the malts are sweet but Tasmanian hops dominate the palate. This one is a must for citrus hop lovers.

Poured into a Stone Imperial glass. Very bright orange that is almost yellow in color. Very clear and full of medium small carbonation bubbles that lead to a small one finger head of bright white color and semi creamy appearance. Lace is sticking for now.

Smell is quite bright and citrusy, some yellow grapefruit mixed with mild earth or yeasty, bready smells and some malt sweetness. None of the smells quite trump the other which is a good thing.

Taste is much like the smell but the sweet malt and musty yeast take drivers seat and shotgun. I do get some really puckering bitter taste like yellow and pink grapefruit mixed with blood orange, which on their own are great, but mixed with the malt bill and yeast strain I just don't get what I want out of this IPA.

Mouth is light and creamy. Carbonation is very nice with a full body. The finish is medium and long. Nice!

Overall I am such a West Coast IPA style lover so any IPA with too much malt and weird yeast just turns me off. I need to score as I see it but I could see many of the BA community disagreeing with me. Thanks to rpbuckeye for this extra.

Pours quite pale for an IPA (though that's funny to say). Pale golden yellow , very clear. Half-finger of white head, good retention, and really impressive lacing. Little dots of carbonation drifting up through the glass.

I love the way this beer smells. It's full of luscious tropical fruits, pineapple, grapefruit, and a soft dose of pine. Amazing hop aromas, juicy, inviting, and complex. Amazing.

Taste is top-notch as well. Thin malt base, a bit grainy but mostly absent. There's an impressive amount of hops in the flavor. The flavor gets sucked out before surging back with a dry citrusy bitterness. Really nice.

Mouthfeel is fine. A little on the watery side. Medium-light body, moderately low carbonation. Could use a bit more carbonation, too. There's a dryness, but I find that more as a crispy flavor, rather than in the feel.

This is a really impressive IPA. Amazing smells, full of delicious tropical fruits. I dig this, and I plan to pick up more of it before I leave the land of Schlafly.

Pours a pale yellow with a hing of cloudiness and a generous amount of bone white head. The head is somewhat loose, leaves thick lacing, and retains nicely. The nose starts with waves of tropical fruit in the form of mangos and peaches with a hint of lemon zest. Bready malts sit beneath the bright fruity hop profile. Taste has juicy hop goodness. Again, tropical fruits present with a perceived sweetness from the hops. The bitterness is very low as this is very well balanced and easy drinking. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing with moderate to high carbonation. Overall, a delicious IPA from Schlafly. Definitely worth a try.

A- Pale orange colored body with a slight haze. Frothy white head that hangs around for a while.

S- Tons of tropical hops; grapefruit, pineapple, mango, maybe even some kiwi. Really hoppy and fruity, smells delicious.

T- Comes through just like it smells. Lots of tropical fruit flavors, tons of hops, big juicy flavors.

M- Medium bodied, medium carbonation, leaves a bite on the tongue.

O- A great change of pace IPA. Really stands out from the crowd with the big tropical flavors.

Presentation: 12 oz. bottle chilled and poured into a pint glass. I couldn't find a freshness date on the bottle, but it definitely tasted very fresh.

Appearance: Pale yellow in color with a slight touch of haze toward the thicker end of the glass. Two finger creamy white head with really solid retention. A really nice lacing up and down the glass.

Aroma: Mango, passionfruit, and pineapple notes all burst upfront. Definitely more on the tropical than earthy / piney side. Very hop forward. Some light biscuit pale malt notes too.

Taste: Mango, pineapple and grapefruit notes dominate the taste as well. This is definitely a tropical fruit bomb. A bit more bitterness than in the arom as well. Some light honey and passionfruit as well. Really tasty, refreshing and drinkable.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and really easy to drink. Refreshing.

Overall, a really tasty, tropical fruit heavy IPA that really has a great hop profile. The malt backbone is light enough to let the hops really shine. Not the most complex profile, but really tasty and solidly executed. I really enjoyed this.
