Our Pilsner is a golden and crystal clear lager. The hops lend a pleasant bitterness and a lemony, peppery taste. They are added at the beginning of the brew for bitterness and the end for flavor. The subtle and lightly toasted flavor of the malts is the perfect backbone to showcase the special hop blend.
Pilsner can be traced to its namesake, the city of Plzeň (pronounced pilsen) in the western half of the Czech Republic, once part of Bohemia. In 1842, Joseph Groll developed the first light colored beer, an immediate success. Still a popular style, Pilsner influenced the American light lager we know today.

Ordered a pint on draught at the St. Louis Brewery Tap Room
Aroma: Light grain husk aroma with very light, but noticeable grassiness from hops. Very slight corn/vegetal note.
Appearance: Bartender's careful pour resulted in half-finger head, which quickly reduced to a thin circle of foam around the inside of the glass. Yellow-to-gold body with a faint chill haze.
Flavor: Grain husk, herbal hop, strangely noticeable alcohol note, followed by a dry hop bitterness that hangs around a little while. Very low on sweetness-- tends more toward dry graininess and hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Crisp carbonation, light-to-medium body. Slightly drying.
Drinkability: Pretty sessionable, with no significant flaws. I tend to like pilsners that showcase more noble hop aroma, or a touch of sweetness from the malt, though, and this one is a little bit lacking in substance. I think it leans more toward being an American pilsner with it's grainy aroma & flavor. Give it a try, though!

This is a solid traditional pilsner. Not overly hopped, and very drinkable with a smooth mouthfeel. The malts are the star here with crackery flavor with a touch of honey.

This is a beautiful brew...clear golden color with a thick white head. The aroma is of fresh, lightly beady undertone and forward floral hops. The taste is nicely balanced, with a hoppy bitterness in the mid-taste. Flavorful, crisp, with a firm body. Solid.

This beer looks wonderful, with a bright white head and a clear gold body. But as good as it looks, it has very little else. There’s a slightly tart aroma, which is typical of Pilsners, but there’s no malt flavor. In fact, there’s little flavor at all. Body is limp. Schlafly does many things well and they have some great beers. Seek them instead.

Pale golden colored with a fingernail of dishwater covering two thirds of the top. The aroma is of grassy hops and white doughy bread. I'm tasting very light grains and just a touch of grassy hops. The mouth is very delicate, light, and quaffable.

Pours a hazy gold color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of strong pale malt, hint of sweet malt, spicy hops, slight hint of black pepper, and slight wheat. Fits the style of a Czech Pilsner. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a slight dryness. Overall, good appearance, aroma, blend, and body.
