A- Poured a hazy, burnt orange body with a very minimal head. Moderate lacing along the glass.
S- Wonderful notes of tropical fruit, hops, peaches, citrus, and a hint of caramel malts.
T- Juicy and resiny hop flavors dominate the palate. Citrus, peach, marmalade, tropical fruit and a hint of pine. Sweet, bread-like malts are present in the backbone. The finish is a bittersweet fruity hop character.
M- A bit under-carbonated and watery, but not too much so.

Enjoyed on-cask @ the iTap House in Soulard (St. Louis), MO for $15. Tapped into my new Spaten Litre Seidel Glass and enjoyed in this large of a glass because of the iTap Soulard Sunday Opening Event. Even though they didn't allow other people to get their Litres filled with anything but Spaten or other German Lagers, knowing the owner doesn't hurt...
huge grassy hop, citrus aroma,
2.5 frothy head, deep orange body, semi hazy, leaves TONS lace
orange peel taste, huge hops, huge and great!
med bod leaves orange on palate
Aroma- Very strong citrus and grassy hop aroma comes out perfectly! May be dry hopped and this leads to my thoughts of why this is SO grassy. There is a fruitiness and citrus aroma that finishes the smell.
Appearance- Received with a 2+ finger head that is frothy and comes over the glass like a root beer float would. Deep orange color body and hazy. Leaves a good amount of lace on the sides as well.
Flavor- Strong citrus hop taste at beginning of drink and has a orange peel taste all the way through. High Bitterness at the end and perfect for the style!
Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, High Carbonation, but not quite as smooth or easy drinking as others... Has a bit of alcohol warming also. Leaves orange on the palate and this is acceptable.
Overall Impression- Good orange and citrus taste, strong hops, and a good bitter finish. I have enjoyed this out of the bottle many times but never seen a cask of it! Very fun event and love this A-IPA. Can't get much better than this!

on cask at schlafly cod and cask, served in pint glass. color was orangish yellow. had little head, if any and no lacing. very light smell, sweet fruit, such as grapefruit but scent was very light. taste was subtle sweet citrus, very light and well balanced with a light malty finish. mouthfeel was pretty perfect, very smooth. i would assume this is a light ABV and with the light hop flavor, very sessionable. I had two of these, 2nd was better than first.

Poured from cask at Fiddler's Hearth. Review from phone notes.
A- Pours a very hazy burnt orange color. Tons of sediment on the bottom of my glass. One finger dirty white head stays around for the entire beer. Tons of sticky lacing ringing on the beer as I drink it down.
S- Tons of citrus in this beer. Some light caramel malts on this one but only in hints. The hops just burst through everything. Some tropical along some light piney hops in this as well. Mostly just hops hops hops.
T- Holy shit this is an amazing beer! Big bursts of citrus hops in the front end of this. Some light caramel malts in the middle of this beer but those get overrun with some tropical hops. The tail end of the beer comes in with a light bitter hops.
M- Medium heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for a cask beer but heavy for a IPA in general. Hops left over everything and into the aftertaste. Oily slickness and resin left everywhere on the lips, teeth, palate, ect. No off flavors at all.
D- This beer is so amazing! I like cask beer but this is something that I can't even explain. The best cask beer hands down. I hope they can get this flavor into the bottle when they bottle it. Good job Schlafly on this little gem to be!

A: pale orange, slight head. Nice lace chunks.
S: Citrusy hops.
T: Awesome balance of hops, and malt. Nothing more to add here. Simple, and wonderful!
M: Medium to light.
D: Awesome "D". On cask, it was a perfect companion to the fish & chips at the Taproom. This is easily my favorite beer from The St. Louis Brewery! I'm not a hophead at all, but, this was pleasing as heck!

On cask at The Good Pie. Poured into pint glass
A - Pours a mirky burnt orange color with a few off-white bubbles, both large and small on top. A thin layer of head remains and a small ring are the edge of the glass.
S - Pine, citrus, hoppy bitterness mixed with sweet tropical fruit notes on the end. A nice combo of hops used in this one. Hoppy enough yet refined as well to appreciate everything else that's going on.
T - Oranges, pine, citrus, tangerines...wow. A great mix of biterness and sweet fruits make this IPA unlike any I've ever reviewed. It's hoppy but there's so much more to it...hard to explain without sampling. Not quite a malty sweetness, something else I can't put my finger on.
M - Light, smooth, refreshing, and super easy going down. Obviously, not much in terms of carbonation, but it's a cask. Oily finish...yum!
D - Super easy to drink. My fav Schlafly offering I've ever had. Please please please bottle this next year. We have a winner!

Very nice citrus and floral up front.
Cloudy appearance (Cask probably added to this)
Drinkable for such a cloudy hoppy beer.
Nice lingering aftertaste.
I thought it was overall very complex yet easy to drink. I could easily get a six pack down but at 7 - 7.5% it would pack a whollop. Really hope to see this as at least a seasonal offering from Schlafly.

Sampled this one at the Cod & Cask Festival at the Taproom - Drawn from the cask a medium yellow color and almost no head`to speak of ... only spotty lacing in the standard pint glass. Nose is slightly subdued, but there is a pleasant aroma of fresh hops going on here. Dry hopped? Otherwise, carameled malts, and citrus. Palate is similar to what the nose gives away ... a relatively tame IPA, at first blush, but leaves a very nice fresh hop character in the mouth. Definitely no hop-bomb, but very subtle and well-crafted. Mouthfeel is medium and the cask beer is served warmer ... 55 degrees or so ... leaving a smooth, floral and citrus finish. Juicy. I like this beer and it is only my second cask-conditioned ale experience. I'm definitely a fan and would come back for this one again. Enough hop character to satisfy without being harsh in any way ... very smooth and tempting with the fresh hop flavors and nose. Well done, I thought.

Crisp and clean, not as hoppy as expected though that may be due to the American Hops of which I am unaccustomed. Very much enjoyed it. Love the box which, as a collector of six-pack sides, is why I purchased it.
Good hop aroma though not as strong as hoped for.
Enjoyed poured aggressively into a pint glass.
Label is updated from that which is above, now covered w/ hops.:-)
(Edit to mention this is now labeled as an APA.)

A - Poured a light honey color. Crystal clear and 1 finger off slightly offwhite head. Excellent retention.
S - A very sweet floral smelling beer. Thre are hints of citrus in the background. Definately pick up some lemon smells. Not much maltiness to this beer. Its all hops!
T -Just like it smells. Very floral on the front with some pineyness to it. There are hints of citrus as well.
M - This is a great thick beer. One of the highest ratings I have given on Mouthfeel. It has a lot of body to it. You know you are drinking a big beer!
O - A very good IPA. Definately one for hop heads. I would have liked to see it a little more balanced with more malt presence. Still a great beer and one I will be picking up again

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of craft beer glass.
A: Pours a clear orangish hue with a big, white, frothy head that slowly dissipates down the side of the glass leaving a nice trail and ending in a frothy lace.
S: Hops, citrus, malt and pine aroma.
T: Similar to the smell and good mix of bitter hops and sweet malt with a solid citrus and pine background.
M: Medium body and medium carbonation
O: Decent I PA – Good balance between the hops and malt.

Fresh bottle from Capone's. Golden bodied with lots of foamy white head. Strong citrus orange aroma. A high yet not overwhelming delivery of bitterness. Very tasty and drinkable orange with some tangerine, mint, pine. Medium mouthful. Somewhat palate erasing.

The old review machine is chugging along - 2x the reviews in one night!
Schlafly American IPA; 12 oz bottle; bottled on 3/4/13; poured in to my new Firestone Walker Barrelworks Teku
A - Nice amber color on the pour, cloudy with sediment. Unfiltered, so not anything unexpected. Two finger head with nice retention and lacing upon receding.
S - Hops, hops and hops. Is this an American IPA - oh yes it is. Piney dank resinous hops on the nose - there is no way to avoid it. Simcoe is very evident: read - cat piss (I don't mind).
T - A bruiser, if you don't like the bitter assault of piney, dankey, resinous american hops - this beer is not for you. The finish has a nice little sweet malt backbone to complement the strong hop front.
M - Puckering, abrasive, astringent. I tend to like these things and will come back again and again...and again.
O - A well made strong, assertive IPA. A unique take on its own that is not West Coast, not East Coast - just American.

12oz bottle poured into a Dogfish shaped pint glass.
Appearance
Golden amber with 3 fingers of white head. Excellent retention leaving behind thick ringlets of lacing. Low-moderate carbonation. Slightly hazy with active yeast sediment floating around.
Nose
Papaya, pineapple, mango, candied orange and pine.
Taste
Papaya, mango, candied orange and drops of pineapple juice. Bready malts with notes of honey and pale candy sugars. Finishes with red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest and pine needles with just a hint of onion.
Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, oily, crisp, bitter and dry.
Overall
Tropical fruits, citrus fruits and resinous pine backed by bready malts and candy sugars. Nicely balanced while keeping some residual bitterness. This IPA has it going on!

A: Pours a beautiful clear ruby. Huge, fluffy tan head. Fades slowly, leaving thin fluffy bits of lacing behind. Top notch head retention though, never fully fades and easily stirred back to life.
S: Lots of caramel sweetness backs up some nice oranges and tropical fruits. Like smelling candied fruits. Nice.
T: Again, more sweet citrus and tropical fruits. Mango is prominent, maybe some apricot in there? Nice caramel to sweeten everything up. Sweetness fades into the finish, leaving a bitter wave of dried citrus. Almost orange peel-ish. Very nice.
M: Nice medium body, sweet but not syrupy.
O: I'm a sucker for tropical fruit hoppiness in an IPA. Schlafly's TIPA has it in spades, and this one isn't too far behind. This is a bit mellower and sweeter than TIPA but still delicious. More of a balanced IPA than a huge hop bomb; super drinkable as a result. Really quite nice to drink, I enjoyed this a lot.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a moderately clear amber color. The head is a two finger offwhite shade, retaining itself decently. Lots of lacing on the glass, too.
S: There's a nice amount of mango, papaya, grapefruit, and herbs on the nose, with enough malt to balance. I love the Simcoe-forward nature of this one. Develops an onion-y note after warming up, and that's a good thing.
T: Again, this really showcases Simcoe hops well. It starts with some mild, unsweetened tropical fruits, before it develops a strong piny, herbal tone near the finish and aftertaste. The finishing bitterness might put some off, but who cares?! Give me more.
M: No annoying syrupy linger or overdone malt sweetness here, yet at the same time, it's not wrecking the palate with bitter dryness. As such, it's nicely crisp, not to mention superbly drinkable.
O: This might be my favorite pine-forward IPA to date. It kind of reminds me of Troegs Perpetual IPA with its crisp finish and Simcoe-heavy nature, which is always a good thing.

Aggressive pour yields a brilliant medium copper color with a pillowy 2 inch cream head that dissipates slowly, leaving sticky, spotty lacing.
Resin, pine, and grapefruit leap from the glass. Fresh cut grass and onion accompany bready caramel malt. Earthy and floral hop notes emerge late.
Caramel sweetness forms the backbone of the flavor profile, fairly bready and toasty, even into the finish. Underpinnings of resin, grass, catty hops, and slightly muted grapefruit are evident throughout. Resiny bitterness closes out the flavor. The balance is decidedly bitter. Onion, a hint of mint, and pine surface in the aftertaste.
Body is moderate to a tad full, with moderate carbonation and a bit of alcohol warmth.
Great toasted caramel malt presence to support the hop character. Hop flavor isn't quite as prevalent our complex as aroma. The dominant character ends up being resiny bitterness, but there's enough malt sweetness to prevent it from being offensive.

S: Fairly fresh hops, slightly resiny with some grapefruit, clean cracker malt backbone.
L: Light burnt orange, some little floaties, white head that dissipates. Some lacing.
T: Mango hops up front followed by a sweet, slightly caramel malt. Bright citrus hops flavor permeates. Medium high, slightly tart mango bitterness with some dank notes in the taste. Finishes semi-dry with residual caramel and bitter mango.
M: Medium full body, medium carbonation.
Solid IPA, definitely has some citra or other new world hop in it with the big mango notes.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nice orange-copper color with a thick one finger off white head. The head sits atop the brew for quite a long time, eventually fading down to give a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is a very pleasant blend of lighter fruits and citrus hop. The fruits are heaviest of a tropical nature with lots of tangerine and mango, but these are mixed with some lighter apricot and peach aromas as well. The hop out does the fruit ever so slightly in potency, bringing a nice grapefruit hop aroma mixed with a light earthy hop smell.
Taste – The taste starts out with a bready and more malty flavor with some of the fruit that was detected in the nose. The fruit however is light in potency and consists mostly of the apricot and peach with little or no tropical mango. Also upfront is a decent presence of grapefruit hop which grows stronger as the taste advances. While the grapefruit gets stronger the fruity flavors fade some, with the bready flavors remaining ever vigilant and constant throughout. Toward the end, other hop flavors of a pine and grassy nature come to the tongue with a very small amount of a sugary sweetness, leaving an overall grapefruit bitter, but still somewhat smoother flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a bit on the creamier and chewier side with a carbonation level that is average to just above average. The thicker and chewy body is very nice for the bready and fruit flavors of the brew, with the carbonation keeping the grapefruit from producing too much bitterness on the tongue at the end of the taste. Overall it is a nice combination for the flavors of the brew.
Overall – A rather tasty IPA with a good dose of grapefruit hop that is balanced out by a moderate bready and fruity base. Not a bad brew to sit back and enjoy.

Love this IPA. I wish it wasn't a seasonal. Nice big fluffy head. The smell is nice, nothing crazy, but maybe it's my nose. It's the taste where this one stands out. Big hop bomb, just like I like my IPAs at times. This one delivers. Bitter, citrus, tangy, tasty. Love it!

A-Translucent orange, slight carbonation, one finger head that tries to leave behind some lacing.
S-Mild malt, good deal of hops citrus and grass.
T-Starts with nice blend of malt notes, had citrus and grass hops notes. Then a nice hop bite and bitterness in the finish.
M-Medium bodied, nicely carbonated and hop resins.
O-A wonderful IPA, if this beer was year round it could be a great go to beer. Put a must pick up when it is fresh.

Bottled with love on 01/17/2013.
Light copper amber color with millions of fine particle floaties held in suspension. Impressive white cap of soapy foam, and it holds up like the truth.
Clean citrus hops in the nose with juicy notes of grapefruit and apricot. Hints of peach and orange. Has a crystalline sugar sweetness. Some floral notes and a rye-like spicy malt base that offers up half-sweetness and half-toastiness. Excellent nose.
Immediately picking up floral and citrus hops with a tinge of spiciness. Rye malts, maybe? Seriously? Sweet Georgia peach and white grapefruit and treacle (from the malts). Only moderately bitter. Tender fruits carry out in the finish with some oily green notes. Dry-hopped to all hell and this is the magic to show for it.
Medium-to-hefty body for the style. Nice and juicy. Still has a next level of carbonation bubbling through this one. I love it when a delicious IPA is super easy to drink.
Super-impressed by this one. Would certainly recommend this one.

A- Burnt orange. Hazy and unfiltered. Nice dense white head.
S- Candied fruits. Sweetness from the malt comes through. Very tropical overall.
T- Big tropical fruit coming through on the middle and front of the tounge. Back of the tounge gets hit with a grapefruit rind bitterness. Very well balanced. No trace of alcohol.
M- Light for an ipa this balanced. Slightly watery; would be nice in the summer. It does leave a decent coating behind.
O- Great find at my local store in NJ. This particular batch was bottled 24 days ago. Very fresh, excellent flavor. Could be a staple IPA if it was a year round release.

A: Fairly transparent but with visible floating sediment. Nice well-formed white head. Sparse visible carbonation. Moderate lacing on the glass.
S: It's very catty, with a hint of resin, and some citrus thrown in the mix. It smells very fresh, although it is exactly one month past the date on the bottle. Some alcohol is present in the nose.
T: I get a grapefruit rind right off the bat, then it's followed by a toasted wheat biscuit flavor. It's very bitter. Some alcohol peeps through at times. Catty flavor...
M: Very dry, with lingering bitterness. There is a harshness...a rough edge to the bitterness. It's nothing bad...just something to note.
O: Overall I really enjoyed the beer and I would recommend it. It's very bitter with a good amount of hop character. I think that fans of any style of IPA from any region would enjoy this beer. I know that some IPAs don't really satisfy that "hop fix," but this beer is certain to satisfy any hop cravings.

12 ounce bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass
A - It is amber with golden highlights. It has a slight haze to it. On top sat an inch of off-white head.
S - I get some citrus and that foreboding skuny weed smell.
T - It starts out all nice with the citrus flavors. Then it slaps you in the face with skunky bitterness. I think this is a simcoe hops trait, but I am ignorant to specific hop profile save a few.
M - Moderate
O - This IPA does not represent the characteristics that I like. I don't care for the extreme bitterness and skunky taste. Call me a pussy, but I like the citrusy mid-western style IPA's. I am not saying this is a bad beer. Just not to my liking. If you like the real bitter skunk weed IPA's then this is for you.
