Had on cask at the Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis. Served in a nonic pint glass. FYI, the one on cask @ the brewery said 6.6% ABV, not 5.9% as the bottle and what BA says.

A - Hazy golden yellow with minimal head but did leave significant lacing throughout.

S - Earthy, grassy, some pine and floral notes. Not as hoppy as an IPA, but getting there. Biscuity malts as well.

T & M - Interesting bitterness from the dry hopping. Very lightly carbonated. Light to medium bodied. Nice pale ale with a little bit more of a hop flavor to it.

Overall - decent APA. From the cask, didn't expect much carbonation, and this didn't have much at all. Nice hop and malt character. Would like to try it on the tap instead of the cask.. was room temperature.

Enjoyed out of a Kilderkin @ Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood (St. Louis), MO. They said this was the only Kildersk in the country! Served into a 12 oz Schlafly cup and had 2 back to back before it was all gone. Also, they added Citra Hops into the cask (different from any other batches of this APA).

Appearance- Pours a VERY hazy white/orange color, almost like a Belgian White. 2 fingers of head and foamy with many bubbles. Has grew retention and left a nice amount of lace.

Smell- The scent is an extreme amount of grapefruit and can definitely smell the citra hops upfront. Very floral smell as well.

Taste- Starts with a citrus hop flavor and turns bitter very soon afterwards. These fruit flavored hops make up this ale and keep the sweetness the main focus for this once brewed APA. Very nice!

Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Huge carbonation, and fresh tasting. Dry hopped and is contributed to the bitter finish.

Overall- I am very lucky to have had this ale during the End of Prohibition Festival. They will not be brewing a batch like this again they said. Very complexed and the Citra Hops added a great component to the ale. Will be waiting to have the APA once again in bottle and see the differences between these two. Very nice! Could drink more than 2 but the availability was limited.

On cask at the Bleeding Deacon. Poured into a pint glass.

The dry hopped APA poured a very hazy orange color with some noticeable sediment. A very frothy off white head sticks around and laces the pint glass. Smell is mostly hops and some citrus as well as pines. Aromas are pretty good. Taste is also pretty hoppy with similar citrus tastes as well as some floral earthy tastes. I much prefer the added hops from the cask than this out of a bottle. Mouthfeel is slick and smooth. Drinkability is solid for this. ABV is medium grade and taste is good for the style.

This was from the cask at the Schlafly Tap Room.

It came in an imperial pint glass with a deep golden color. It also had a thick foamy head that maintained itself well.
It had huge grapefruit odors and a pronounced hop aroma.
The taste was rather hoppy but not overpowering. the citrus flavors were wonderful.
This beer was very fluffy.
This was very drinkable. It was the first cask beer I have had and I was surprised when it came out at almost room temperature. However this could not have mattered less when I realized how fresh and alive this beer was.
Delicious!

I have had this beer on tap and out of a bottle. Neither compares to it being hand pumped out of the Tap Rooms basement. Drank it out of the SIP Club stein and it was great. The head was about and inch/inch and a half and stuck around till the end. There was the smell of hops which could also be tasted. The hop flavor was not overpowering though. Much smoother and more of an easy drinker this way than on tap.

If you happen to be at the Tap Room and this is available do not pass it up.

Bright and clear copper-colored brew with an off-white head of a finger or two. The head goes down quickly but still has some lingering retention and a little lace. Aromas seem fairly muted of citrus hops.

The taste is pretty strong in the hops department as you'd expect and has a sharp bittering factor. Mouthfeel is crisp, with a finish that's both dry and bitter.

Overall a well-made hop-forward beer with no frills.

Into a mug:

A: semi-clear yet somewhat hazy golden orange body yielding a nice two finger white foamy head, lacing is spotty and leaves some rings

S: hops up front slightly citrus with a nice combination of malts

T: bittersweet with some nice flavorful lemon tones coming through

M: light to medium, sessionable, carbaonation seems right on, slightly smooth

O: wow! This is a very nice APA that seems spot on for a hoppy one of its style, I would definitely have this again

Trying to remember the various great beers I had while bicycling cross-country last year. This one, seems not too well known outside it's local area, is a damn good beer. I hadn't been in the States for some years and was quite impressed with the improvements and availability of good craft beers (you are excused, Utah) and I recall going into a bottle shop somewhere in Middle America, land of Bud Light, and asking for something 'dry hopped'. The knowledgeable guy in the shop sold me this. Full flavored, well hopped, it is a fine one!

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear medium copper with a one finger white head. Really good head retention along with some decent splotches of lacing. Plenty of carbonation is evident with as long as the head stays there.

Aroma is a good balance of citrus and pine leaning more towards the citrus in the form of orange zest and a little bit of lemon. Some light aromatic pine notes along with a hint of caramel.

The flavor seems a little bit unbalanced and too bitter, almost astringent. A little metallic up front but that quickly fades then an orange peel flavor that lends a very orange peel-like bitterness. A farily hefty dose of pine resin along with some light caramel and bread.

Overall, I'm a little torn by this one. It is fairly easy drinking but the astringent bitterness can be a little much after awhile. Probably not something i will pick up very often.

On tap on 3/11/13 (Fire Sale at the Saucer)

Poured into a shaker with almost no head, though it appeared to be poured correctly. Pale orange like an under-ripe pumpkin with a little bit of haze to it. Very minimal lacing throughout the glass. The nose was very clean and seemed like a lot of crystal malt and very mild bitter nose. Definitely not the usual "west coast" hope smell, but more of a mild, slightly resinous nose. The taste was very much like the nose with a good, balanced malt backbone, slightly bready with a stinging bitterness and a spring of citrus at the end. Good mouthfeel, very smooth with nice carbonation. Very solid offering in a pale ale.

Poured this APA from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a somewhat hazy copper color, produced a thick, creamy white head, very nice retention and leaves an above average amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma consisted of malted grain and citric hops. Medium in body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel- There is a foundation of sweet malted grain, piney hops, and a touch of fruity apple.- Overall, it is a nice example of the style, great session beer and an excellent "entry level" APA. Another very solid offering from Schlafly.

Nice and hoppy, herbal and spicy. Raw hop leaf. Just enough malt body to carry all the flavor over. Nice bitterness but balance is good as well. Faint sweet bread up front, followed by the raw piney hop. Not a lot of fruity hop flavor but still has that American crispness, brightness and mouthfeel. Medium bodies, nice.

Good but a little pricey.

Drank 1 1/2 months after bottling. Poured from a bottle into a glass.

A: Medium gold hue to bright red-orange depending on the light. Beer poured a big 3-finger, foamy head which left some lacing around the glass as it resided.

S: When I first poured it I got a big whiff of all kinds of hoppy goodness, but mid-way through the beer it's mostly just a think corn smell.

T: Corn flakiness up front but a strong citrusy/floral hop hit to back it up.

M: Moderate-high carbonation, which I like in a pale ale. Slightly sticky mouthfeel but very refreshing. The carbonation elevates the hops nicely.

O: Good APA. Maybe it would have a nicer aroma on tap or from a fresher bottle? But that's the only lacking characteristic of this APA.

Picked this up on a recent trip through Missouri. Bottled 28 November 2012. Tasted 29 January 2013, reviewed from notes.

Pours a clean clear bright orange with a little gold. Half-finger of white head, okay retention, pretty good lacing. Little visible carbonation.

Smells... not dry-hopped. Which is, um, surprising, seeing as "dry-hopped" is in the beer's name. Where are those hops? I can't find them. I also can't find much that appeals to me. Very grainy, lightly sweet and corny. Smells like a slightly juiced up adjunct lager. Weird.

Taste is in the same vein. Very grainy, a little sweet, and nothing that really says hops or APA. Shoot, I've brewed APAs that I liked way better than this, and I haven't done much brewing. It tastes like a mildly sweetened macro. Only a half-touch of bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is fine. Medium-light body, buoyant, with enough carbonation. Not really good, but fine.

A very grainy, otherwise dull pale ale. I can drink this, but it's not what it says it is, and it's disappointing. I don't plan on drinking this again, that's for sure. This surprises me, as the other Schlafly beer I've had was stellar and very hop-forward.

Pours a hazy dark honey color with a frothy white head that recedes slowly to leave some sticky lacing behind.

Aromas begin with some dank grapefuit, light pine, floral and lightly tropical hops. Some malt/honey sweetness soon joins in to counteract the greenery. Not the most potent dry-hopped beer I've come across but still quality.

The tastes follow the nose with the slight honey-ed malt sweetness up front that is soon overtaken by the hop flavors. There is also a solid but not overwhelming bitterness from the hops as well which almost take this to an IPA level.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Finish is mainly dank citrus hops that linger ever-so-slightly.

Overall this is a nice take on a dry-hopped pale ale but the bitterness seems a bit high and the dry-hopping comes across a little resiny which could be from prolonged exposure to the beer. While I like this I don't love it and would probably not revisit it again in a 6pack format.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

The beer is a slightly hazy pumpkin copper color. A frothy cream colored head recedes to a thick film, leaving decent lines of lacing.

The beer smells of floral hops, faint malts, and faint grapefruit rinds.

The taste starts out slightly malty before the hops kick in. The body is really hoppy and dry, with a nice floral, sweet note on the back end. The finish is clean.

Mouthfeel is slightly sticky but also quite smooth.

Overall, this is a really delicious hoppy brew that I was glad to try.

This poured a very thin bubbly head with noticeable carbonation and a pale golden color. It did not hold the color or structure of many a heartier Pale Ale.

The scents were the best part of this APA. Very evident was the fruitiness and hoppiness of a quality APA. Notes of pine, sweet barley and even a hint of clove were detected. The fruity aroma was the best part.

The taste was smooth and light; a bit of grainy malt and a touch of hoppy bitterness. Didn't detect the fruitiness that I caught on the aroma and that was missed. The end is a touch metallic with a tinny feel.

I was very impressed with the complexity of the scent so the taste was a bit disappointing but still good enough to drink regularly.

Produced a two finger white head. The beer color is a barely translucent honey.

The aroma is of citrus, hops, bread.

The taste is similar, but with a light honey sweetness. Medium mouth-feel, and carbonation. Hops are definitely there, but the bitterness isn't too much.

Nice beer. Will have my bro bootleg it up to me again, when he gets the chance.

A- Mostly clear orange body with some carbonation bubbles coming up from the bottom. Bubbly white head that leaves a lot of lacing.

S- Sweet malt with some citrus hops coming through. Not as hoppy in the nose as I was expecting. Smells more malty with some grassy aromas.

T- Pretty similar to the nose. The hops are there, but more complementary, with the malt coming through a lot. Some citrus, fresh grass and biscuity malts. Has a slight lager taste to it.

M- Medium bodied, medium carbonation, very balanced.

O- A very drinkable beer, but not a great example of the style in my opinion.

S-Caramel malt, some citrus hop but not much else.

T-Starts malty, some grass and citrus hops. Ends with some bitterness.

O-At the end of the day too much malt. Even for an APA the hops needed to be there a little more.

A - Cloudy with yeast. This brew is a vibrant tangerine color with a smallish head of eggshell-hued foam. Good lace.

S - Lemon juice, white pepper, and sea salt. Odd... especially for the style. Lemongrass.

T - Astringent grassy hops really assert themselves. Freshly mowed lawns, bitter arugula-type greens.

M - Medium bodied, sharp and astringent.

Odd as heck, but not at all bad. This would cut right through a spicy dish. Given the fact that this stuff is ubiquitous in my neck of the woods (90 miles from St. Louis) this could be a go-to beer for Thai or Indian nights.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

An amber body with orange highlights throughout. A huge bone white cap rose quickly and receded in raindrop fashion. Spider web lacing covering the glass.

Bready malt with citrus and some pine resin. Balanced aroma that tips a little more towards the malt.

Some bready malt sweetness up front before some floral and grassy hops move in. Mid-palate, grapefruit and orange poke through before malt comes back into focus. The finish is more of the hop/malt back and forth. Balanced through and through. The finish is some lingering bitterness and grainy sweetness.

Medium bodied with good carbonation. Smooth with a nice dry finish.

A solid APA with tremendous balance. A nice easy drinker.

Enjoyed at the brewpub in St Louis, reviews from notes.

A: half finger head on a clear golden with amber hues body.

S: toasted malts, candied citrus and pungent earthy hops.

T: again, a malt forward brew but nicely balanced with hops providing herbal, tart citrus notes. Candy sugar notes throughout.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation. 

Overall: even though malty this one is well balanced with nice hop variability. A memorable beer.

a more than good session american pale ale. pours a light and bright golden color, with a tiny bit of yeast remaining, and a two inch head, white and dense, lasting and sticky, sexy. the smell is pretty bitter, with english hops on the lighter side and a citrus hop profile, tangerines and lemon zest. the flavor is more mild, almost dull or mellow, not as jivey as the nose, but lots of hop bitter on both ends, and enough malt in the middle. dry hops add flavor, but i think this isnt as hoppy as a lot of american pale ales. feel is solid, perfect medium body and great carbonation. infinitely sessionable and really satisfying as a morning beer. malty and hoppy at the same time, without being overwhelming. a worthy quaff for sure, but not the best choice at the taproom

Bought it because of Schlafly name and dry hopping.

I must say it was not that good.

Pours with a two fingers thick head. A good amount of carbonation. Pale golden color very unlike APAs. Too many bubbles springing up throughout.

Smell : Subdued dry hops. Some piney hops a good amount of grain. Not as strong as i would have expected or liked. Something certainly amiss.

Taste : Very less in bitterness. Feels more like a pilsener than an APA. Hop bitterness is mildly felt.

Mouth feel :Dry yet very fuzzy. Carbonation is hurting.

Overall a decent brew. Could have been a lot better.
