Enjoyed at the brewpub in St Louis, reviews from notes.
A: single finger head with decent lacing on a clear golden amber body.
S: candy sugar and light generic citrus.
T: malt forward pale ale. Hops providing slightly bitter, earthy and tart citrus notes. Hops are light as expected for the style.
M: medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall: I am noticing a trend of malt forward brews, even in the styles which are usually not as malt forward. It's ok for this brew but walking through the flight there is little variability in malt content.

Nothing special about this beer. It seems to have a slight cracker taste that is off putting. much better pale ales on the market. it is better than most of the "American Lagers" but i am not sure it is worth the premium price that most bars sell it at.

Served from the tap into a pint glass at St Louis airport Hilton
Served very cold appx 35 F
A: very pale crystally yellow. Small white with outstanding lacing
S: not muc. Cold could have muted it. Kind of adjuncty like corn.
T: crisp and dry. Very refreshing and lageresque. Citrus notes.
M: moderate carbonation. Light body. Nice
O: Not a bad beer but I never would have guessed it was an ale if I was doing a blind taste test. This would be a good beer for your American lager drinking friends to transition over to crafts with.

Pulled into a pint glass.
Appearance-
Typical pale amber colored body. There isn't to much head showing.
Nose-
Slightly sweet smell. There is a bit of biscuit malt and herbacious hops.
Taste-
A decent and dry body, that accommodates a rounded malt body and a bit of the hops from the nose. There is decent amount to carbonation to round it out.
Overall is makes a decent session beer, but its not something that I would seek out.

had this on tap at a pizza joint. looked really good outta the tap with a two finger head on top of a hazy copper body. unfortunatly the smell and taste were underwelming. it didnt smell bad, it just didnt have any aromas or flavors that made it stick out from any other beer. mouthfeel was medium body with decent carbonation and a very small bitter finish. unfortunatly with all the other pale ales out there this one is just average. it will be good for fishing or yard work, but dont expect it to blow your socks off.

On tap at a local beer bar served in a tiny snifter. Beer is orange and mostly clear with a white head of small bubbles. some lacing, decent retention, low carbonation.
Aroma is like orange candy, the mixture of malt and lightly hopped citrus.
Beer is medium to light in body and way too sweet, candy sweet, sweet finish, sweet beginning, minimal hops. It is OK I guess but not a repeat for m.

Had this served to me in a standard pint, and came out with a finger thick head of off white, and has a clear copper colored body.
Aroma is of floral qualities with a hint of toffee. The taste is toffee upfront, but some lemon and arid traits kick in.
Feels well carbonated and light to medium in body. Pretty refreshing altogether.

Served to me at the Schlafly Taproom in St Louis by a great bartender, Kevin. This beer went GREAT with the coconut curry mussels that are always on their menu, and by the way, are fantastic! Schlafly does both beer and food extremely well, particularly well since they've got great black mussels in middle America!
Coppery and clear, head and lacing were ok for on tap, but it did appear to be a pretty careful pour by the bartender. Hey, at least my glass was all the way full!
Smell and taste follow the same meme: caramel malt, a bit of citrus hops, a touch of herbal and floral flavors, and a nice dose of delicious. This is a very solid and very sessionable beer.
Body is slightly slick but still pretty light and damn easy to drink. I think I like it a bit more on tap but really I'm ready to drink this baby anytime.
Schlafly is one of my favorite breweries. This brew might not be world class, but it's damn fine, extremely sessionable, and a great example of how a small brewery can produce very solid and consistently delicious brews, and do so with style. Great job again, Schlafly. I will be back again and again.

On tap throughout St. Louis during my visit poured into a pint glass. Pours clear copper/amber color with a small white head and light lacing throughout. Nose of caramel malts and citrus as well as some floral hops. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Flavor is strong on malts and some hops are there. Slightly bitter finish. Decent pale ale for a mainstream environment.

A- Pours a slightly tanned orange. thin one finger head. Little lacing.
S- Slightly citric and earthy hops. Toasted grain. Lacks the volume of aroma I would like.
T- Taste is more bold. A really earthy, herbal, slightly citric hop profile. Actually, it's a bit "specially herbal" tasting on top of toasted grain.
M- Light body. Moderate carbonation.
D- While not particularly memorable, it's a good enough beer and at 4.4% it's a good easy drinking beer.

pour was a mild copper with a light fluffy head. light lacing.
nice and malty with a light citrus hop and floral hop kick
very balanced on the malt to hop ratio. hops were a bit citrus with hints of pine and a flower. malt was very balanced and flavorful.
nice full body and mild carbonation.
very easy drinking pale ale. nice low ABV helps make this quite drinkable.

The second of multiple beers I tried on December 26th at the Tap Room for Schlafly's anniversary.
A - Dark, dirty brown assisted by a reddish hue. The thick, 1-finger head was always there thanks to a swath of carbonation that kept racing to the surface. Lacing drooped down the side of the glass when all was said and done.
S - Maltier tones with a nice, sweet bready kick. A thin backbone of flowery hops are there, too.
T - On par with the nose. The hoppy flavors are at the front, with a nice, fruity flavor like raisins being present. Gives way to a sweeter finish like an English muffin. Tasty.
M - Sharp, jagged carbonation is the big negative here, but the body is crisp and light, and the finish is as clean as it should be. A vague bitterness lingered.
D - A beer for just about anyone. I honestly find this to be one of the easiest beers to drink. Great for social events such as when I had it, or when I want to have a night to myself. It's simple and easy.
Overall/notes - One of those beers that wouldn't go on my "Oh my!" list but rather on my, "Keep this in mind" one. Easy to appreciate and enjoy. I think my effort to review more Schlafly brews has brought me to appreciate the company a bit more. This is their straight-forward beer, and I have no major complaints about it. Well done!

Enjoyed this ale at Bufalo Wild Wings (Ballwin, Mo) in a Pint Glass.
Appearance- Medium Brownish, Orange with very light head
Smell- Smell of Mild Hops, Yeast, and an Average Lager
Taste- A bitter taste with the average lager taste, Not a pale ale taste at all. The hops are evident, but not to the extreme like Sierra Nevada and other favorites of mine.
Mouthfeel- This beer is light bodied, but doesn't have any intense attributes as it hits my palate. It is refreshing though.
Drinkability- While I enjoy a Schlafly every now and then, this beer doesn't hit my taste buds with any kind of pleasure but have many friends who go to this beer from the get-go. Forgetting my dislike for this beer, I could drink this Pale Ale as easily as a Budweiser.

3-4oz pour in very small nonic, Schlafly Bottleworks.
Golden and very clear with some fluffy off-white head.
I smell biscuit, Maris Otter, floral hops, and slightly fruity yeast.
Much the same as the nose this is a balanced English Pale Ale exemplified. Dry mineral finish.
Effervescent, crisp, bare mineral dryness.
Well executed balance that makes for an approachable and refreshing craft beer. I once had this in bottles that were too old and it was a shell of itself. Just always follow the fresh beer rule, for which Schlafly provides "bottled with love on" dates and you'll be fine my friend.

Schlafly's flagship brew, widely available in the St. Louis area. Nice to have this around when the selections are thin.
Pours a light copper color with a one finger head. Dissipates quickly and leaves a little lacing.
Faint aroma, not very prominent. Sweet malt and faint hops.
Nice flavor, again not too strong but tasty enough. Pairs well in a restaurant with most meals.
Smooth mouthfeel and very sessionable. Solid offering.

On tap at the brewpub in August 2009. Reviewed from notes.
Pours a light copper color with a white head and not too much lacing. The nose is really light with a bit of citrus and floral aspects, but really just some light bread and grain. The taste is the same, with generic malt revealing only a tad bit of hoppy character in the background. Mild feel with ever-so-slight bitterness. Drinks nice and easy, but is nowhere near the level of their dry-hopped APA.

Schlafly pale ale
A Light copper color, big head that stays around for the whole glass.
S Nice hop aroma, clean, no out of place odors.
T A little hoppy with some astringency in the aftertaste. A very good drinking beer.
M High carbonation light to medium body.
O Nice pale ale, definitely recommend.

Had on tap...review from phone notes.
A- Pours a clear amber copper color. Half finger dirty white head that just leaves wisps of foam on the top of the beer. Light lacing left on the glass...this tends to fall back in to the beer.
S- Pale malts are in the forefront of the aroma. Light hopping in the back end of this....citrus I think. This also makes for a light sweet alcohol in the backend as well...aroma wise at least.
T- Bigger pale malts come back with burst in the front of the beer. Light toffee flavor is in there toward the middle with some bready notes as well. Light bitter hops come in the tail end of this and close it out with a little lingering.
M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Light bready malts are left on the palate with some light lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Watery tasting in some parts of the mouth. No real crisp flavors but a nice bland blend.
D- This is a very drinkable beer still despite it having some (lots) of blandness. The low alcohol let me have mutiple pints of this beer before I called it quits. I have no problem drinking this beer again. Nice session beer...no more no less.

Citrus hop aromas. Good head with consistent layering. Pale amber color. Malt flavor up front with mellow hop bitterness to follow. Medium bodied with good balance of malt and hops. Clean finish with hops becoming more apparent. I thought this was more malty up front. Overall, this is an easy drinking pale ale.

Had this on-tap at the Tap Room.
Pours a nice copper color with a one-finger, slightly off-white head. The head dissipates into a patchy layer on top leaving decent lacing.
Smells of very lightly toasted caramel malts with mostly leafy and faintly floral hop aromas.
Tastes similar to how it smells. The malt flavors are front and center, backed by very light herbal hop flavors. The ending is mildly bitter.
Mouthfeel is good. It's a bit on the thin side but has solid carbonation.
Drinkability is alright. I didn't have a problem finishing one but probably wouldn't go for another.
Overall this isn't a bad beer by any stretch but it's one that I won't seek out again.

Pours a clear orange/copper color with a thin off white head sitting on top. Poor retention and no lacing.
The aroma is weak, but ok. A bit of hops with some pale malt. Nothing exceptional.
The taste is fine. A slight hop bitterness teamed with a bready pale malt. Good balance, decent flavor. There's a touch of citrus in there as well.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice high level of carbonation.
Drinkability is fairly high. It's an easily sessionable beer, and the flavor profile is fine which makes for a decent little beer.

This is the beer that got me started on craft beer oh those many years ago. Back in college I was totally against "the man" so I refused to drink beer from giant corporations. Schlafly was the only game in town, other than Sam Adams in 1992. While I have come to learn that this is a pretty typical pale ale, it will always ranks as one of my favorites.

Draught pint at the Schlafly Tap Room, St. Louis.
Poured slightly hazed, golden-orange color with a thin head that lasts, but not too long. The aroma is a nice mix sweet malt and hops. Balance of flavors, eathy malt sweetness and fruity hops. Medium body, clean finish, hoppy aftertaste. Good representation.

Pours a clear amber color. 1/4 inch head with slight retention and slight lacing. Smells mainly of hops. Fits the style of an English Pale Ale. Has a slightly crisp mouth feel, along with low carbonation. It has a noticeably smooth mouth feel. Tastes of sweet malts, some earthy characteristic, and a slight malt background. Overall, one of the smoothest English Pale Ale's I've ever had. A little light on the hops for my taste, but still worth a try.
