Poured from a bottle into a bar glass - Dark but not inky black dark - Smell of bready malts with not much on the hoppy end - Taste is as promised - Some roast present - It is not a full-bodied beer but rather light - It is drinkable however when properly chilled and thirst is an issue - I'll have another

amazing, a dark beer for the regular drinker that is brewed traditionally like a dark should be. there is finally a dark beer i can drink until the sun comes up. No aussie dark lager can compete, smooth, light, malty goodness. the bartender said the tap was 4.6% ABV, looking forward to accompanying this beer with winter food

Bottle poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a very dark mocha brown with a thick tan head on top. Great retention; left lots of sticky lace on the glass edge. Big scents of banana bread, walnuts, syrup, and toffee. Very nice.

The body is thin and pretty slick. Could stand a bit more chew. Carbonation level is moderate-to-high though. Nice sweet mellow banana flavor, some mild breadiness, and just wee bit of bitterness on the backend. This was pretty refreshing and decent. I could have a few of these enjoyably. Not bad.

Picked this up from Tiger Qwik Mart's Wall of Beer in Clemson. I just thought it looked interesting, I didn't know it had only 15 reviews for it before this. I poured it from the 12-oz bottle into a pint glass.

The beer pours a deep, dark maroon color that looks black if not held up to the light. It's surprisingly clear when held up to the light, though. A finger of fizzy white head formed, dissipating fairly quickly, leaving behind a decent amount of lacing.

I mostly smell dark malts up front with a little sweetness hovering in the background, possibly pears or bananas. Not extremely strong, but smells nice.

The taste is fairly similar to the aroma; dark and caramel malts up front with a roasty aspect in the middle, followed up with a mild fruitiness and a hint of hop bitterness. Good, but a little weak.

The mouthfeel is the weakest part of this beer, as it is pretty thin, with quite a bit of carbonation. Bumping it up from a light body to a medium body would make this beer a lot better, in my opinion.

Overall, this is a clean beer brings some good things to the table but comes up short of being really good. Still in all, a very drinkable lager that I wouldn't turn down. If you see it, grab one to try, because its not too bad.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Pours very dark brown, almost black, clear and translucent in the light with a ruby tint. A thin off-white soapy head dissipates quickly to a ring of bubbles. Very light lacing.

Modest aromas of dark malts, some dark fruit, and a hint of chocolate. The aroma was a bit more complex than I would have guessed for a dark lager.

Complex mix of malts make these flavors rather interesting to describe. There is some chocolate, toffee, caramel malts, more sweet than bitter, but not overly sweet. The malts definitely lead the charge but there are some light hops that show through a bit in the finish. The finish is clean, a bit thin, and lingers only slightly with some light chocolate & coffee finish.

Mouthfeel is smooth, helped along by the relatively light carbonation. Drinks very easily, too easily! Overall, this brew is very similar to a black lager (schwarzbier) style. If you are a fan, you will probably like this one.

12-ounce bottle poured into a pint glass leaves me wondering... why in the heck are most all of the reviews for this beer from the Carolinas?

A clear garnet-amber body with a swirl of active carbonation sports a rocky little head that recedes to a broken sheet but leaves a little lacing.

The smell is mostly malty with a touch of banana and spicy clove, plus a brown sugary sweet note.

Taste is of sweet caramel and honey with a dry toasty malt note and a nice mild bitterness in the finish. A lingering dryness slides through in the aftertaste.

Rich and medium-full bodied with lip-smacking savory goodness, this beer is hearty but refreshing, and very, very drinkable.

Medium brown, no head, clear body.

Sweet malt and a minerally aroma.

Slightly sour flavor, with a mineral flavor at the end that is not very pleasant.

Very carbonated, very drying, a bit thin.

I wouldn't get this one again. The metallic zing it has is a bit much for me.

Its a dark colored beer, that looks very similar to cola, and has a very similar head to cola.

When smelling you can catch a hint caramel.

Tasting it is very malty and you can catch the caramel undertones that you smelt earlier. Very light hop taste, and has full body to it.

This has become one of my favorite beers and I find it very refreshing. I personally think it goes great with a burger and fries.

Poured from a bottle with very little head & lacing. Nice deep clear ruby/amber color. Hardly any odor. Taste is slightly malty, with residual tartness and a touch of astringency. Mouthfeel is light and sharp with plenty of carbonation, but perhaps a little thin. If you were expecting a more typical dark like a bock, porter or stout, this would be a shock. Not a bad change of pace for a hot weather beer when something heavy doesn't quite get it, but you want something different from lighter styles. I wouldn't turn a second one down.

Poured a bottle of this into an ommagang glass. Smelled the sulfur from a foot away. The beer must have been very old, but it's the brewery's fault for the green bottle. GREEN BOTTLES NEED TO BE OUTLAWED. I took one sip and thought of pouring it out, but then realized I could pretend it was really good and get my friend to try it. He promptly ran to the sink to wash his mouth out. Yes, it was that bad. Unless you're positive it's fresh, don't buy this beer. I have never had a worse experience.

When brought to the table there was almost no head, just a thin layer of whitish foam. I have no way of knowing how long it may have sat before reaching my table. The beer had a beautiful coppery brown color. The smell was yeasty and malty; very pleasantly so.

I expected the beer to be sweeter than it was but was not disappointed that it wasn't. The taste was predominantly malty with a faint hoppy finish and tasted great. Not too strong. Carbonation level was ideal.

This will be added to the list of my all-time favorites. As to drinkability, I'd have had another if I didn't have to drive home.

Pours a deep chesnut brown with a rather large white head that settles quickly leaving no lace behind, faint aromas of caramel and bread dough but it can be hard to pick up.Flavors are quite mild as well some caramel sweetness and almost cola-like flavors stick out mainly wich is a little odd with a little dry earthiness in the finish but pretty unremarkable.A pretty average dunkel flavors a re a little boring so not really much to look forward to in the rest of my six pack.

I just realized that I did not review the pictured beer. I have reviewed here the Arcobrau Urfass Premium Lager, not the dark lager. I will enter appropriately, but don't know how to delete this review.

A green 12 ounce bottle from Acrobrau, claiming to be "the count's brewery"...since 1567. Which count I'm not sure?

Pours a crystal clear clean looking light yellow-gold with a thick creamy white head that lasted the entire time I was drinking the beer.

This beer has the classic german lager aroma -- noble hops and malt. Nice and inviting.

A significant hop presence in the flavor, but very good balance make this beer fit the Bohemian pilsner style.

Overall an enjoyable pilsner. Certainly worth a try.

Appearance: Ice tea brown with a nice off-white head that lasts throughout. Decent lacing.

Smell: Has kind of a wet barn smell; slightly floral

Taste: A distinct hoppiness (kind of like Beck's Dark) but the malts that you would expect from this style remain very subdued. Overall, a little bit toasty but nothing memorable.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation and body.

Drinkability: A fairly innocuous brew that you could consume in quantity but why would you you want to?

Known as the Count's brewery, Arcobräu beers are being imported into the Charlotte, NC market.
