A - Straw colored with a bright white head that fades quickly and lots of bubbles streaming to the top.

S - Grain, barley, a bit of malt and some sweetness.

T - Taste is same as the nose, slightly sweet with some malt and grain flavors. Not a ton of flavor, but nothing offensive either.

M - Nice light and bubbly, with high carbonation, very drinkable.

O - I find this beer to be best with lime and some salt around the edge. Great with anything spice and mexican, but as far as beers go, by itself is pretty poor.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

The beer is a pale, weak golden color, very clear. The white foamy head dissipates after a short while. There is random and minimal lacing initially.

The smell is of corn husk and grain adjuncts. Somewhat metallic.

The beer tastes slightly metallic. The corn husk note is in there with a slight sweetness. The mouthfeel is highly carbonated with a slightly dry finish.

Overall, this is a terrible beer to review in a pint glass. It's not skunky like Corona, so I can drink this out of the can in the right situation. Pretty bad beer by craft standards, but by beer dude weekend standards, it's better than the mega-conglomerate macros in the U.S.

Had this in a can as a "road beer" on the way home from running Tough Mudder VA (had drank 1 Dos Equies prior to since they were sponsoring the event)

Couldnt tell appearance due to being in a can so it gets an average rating...maybe higher or lower in a pint glass

Smelled fine nothing offensive

Tasted great although it could be cause I just ran a 10 mile obstacle course race and everything was tasting good at the time.

Overall not a bad beer it is something I need to drink more of to get a good hadle on but definetly think this beer is worth trying.

A: Ultra aggressive pour leads to three fingers of rapidly dissipating white head. Moderate carbonation.

S: Husked corn, vegetal notes, general adjuctness.

T: Easy malt, grain sweetness, enough hop bitterness to keep things from hitting Bud Lite levels...barely. Cheap American lager....

M: Cheap American lager....

O: More expensive than cheap American lager.

Got this in a can. Opening the can gives no smoke at all whatsoever. Pouring it you get a one finger head. The color of the head is white. It dissipates quickly leaving some bubbles still rising and clinging to the side of the glass. The body is similar to Corona Extra and Sol but a shade darker. Its not as a pure golden yellow like Sol and Corona Exra but its more a yellow orange thats a bit darker than Sol.

The smell is better than that of Corona and Sol. It smells malty and like corn. The picking up of corn and malt mixes together nicely. I think I may be picking up grain but not too sure.

The taste is nicer than Corona or Sol. It tastes like malt and corn. I do pick up some grain but the corn and malt dominate the grain taste. The mouth feel is nicer than either of the two previously mentioned Mexican Cervezas. It has the most robust and nice taste of the Mexican beers (not including Dos equis which I have not tasted enough to judge). The taste is nice in that the corn and malt almost make me want to describe it as robust as much as a beer like this can be. It is kind of carbonated and making it not as drinkable as it could be and is kind of a beer you drink slower.

Other than that its a nice beer to drink. If you want to pick between the Mexican lagers, pick Tecate (try Dos Equis too as I cannot compare it to Tecate because I have not tried it enough for me to give it a good and fair judgment). It has the nicest flavor; better flavor than Corona or Sol.

Bottom line, if you like golden lagers of any kind try Tecate. You might enjoy this nice Mexican brew.

Appearance: In the bottle, but pretty standard for an adjuct from what I can tell.

Smell: Kinda sour. That's about it. A whole lotta nothing otherwise.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Mouthfeel has good carbonation, but this is watery with a stale bitterness in the background.

Drinkability: Not too good.

Overall: I'd take Corona.

Poured into plastic cup from can...yes not ideal, but thats my story.
Im not going to do a run down here...
Its not a horrible "macro". Its malty, heavy, and skunky. Not the worst beer in the world, but I wouldnt buy unless I was in Mexico or it was the best beer available (which is the case here). Better than bud, but not quite as refreshing as carona...

I've had so much Tecate over the years, by itself and in micheladas, I can't believe I haven't reviewed it on this site .. So better late than never, for the style and price it can't be beat .. Definately have it in a can (or cold glass) but not a glass bottle. MUCH better than over-hyped Dos Equis Lager and you probably won't touch Corona or Sol again.

A: The beer pours a very clear yellow color with a solid white head.

S: I get some grain and corn, but not really much after that.

T: It is very watery and bland. I got a little bit of corn and grain, but other than that not much else. Pretty terrible.

M: The beer is pretty carbonated, but relatively easy to drink.

O: I bought it once and will never have it again. My buddy told me to try it because it was good, but my goodness it was bad. I dont get how people love this stuff.

Drank this beer from the can so I cannot comment on its presence.

Smell was a very stale aroma of corn and grains.

Taste was very bland. Corn and grains again. Malty and plenty of carbonation. Very stale tasting.

Mouthfeel is very carbonated and watery. Goes down easy but leaves a very stale and bland aftertaste.

Overall this is a pretty crappy beer. Bought a 1$ can just to try it so I guess you get what you pay for.

A - Poured with a small, white had that disappears quickly and leaves no lace. The body is perfectly clear and straw colored.

S - Grainy with a hint of sweet corn and a touch of floral hops.

T - Grainy malt up front that quickly develops some vegetal notes. Finishes with a hint of corn and light bitterness.

M - Medium-light body, moderately high carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - A very average industrial lager. The corny character is noticeable, but not particularly unpleasant and the aroma is agreeable due to some light notes of malt and floral hops. It certainly beats skunky corona with a lime.

Tallboy can picked up at the LCBO. Pours a familiar pale straw colour, topped with one finger of creamy white head that is mostly gone within a minute. A patchy cap remains, fed by copious streams of bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Very slight lacing on the sides of the glass. Tecate has a very bland aroma of light grains and corn without much to support it... a bit of a stale beer smell, like a poorly-kempt frat house.

Unfortunately the taste follows the nose and offers up very little of interest - light saltine-cracker grains, barley malt, sweet corn and a very faint echo of herbal hop bitterness in the finish. Clean-tasting with no serious off-flavours. Light-bodied, thin mouthfeel with pretty low carbonation for the style. A little slippery in the mouth.

One of the better Mexican pale lagers I've had, and probably above average for the style, but there's nothing here that makes this worth seeking out. I would be very surprised if I found myself purchasing this again.

"In a town called El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl."

That delectable cover of Marty Robbins' classic was playing by the Grateful Dead on my friend's stereo the first time I drank this delicious light lager back in the blisteringly hot summer of 2002 and as much as I love that song, if I had to choose between one or the other I would choose Tecate beer.

I tried to not rate this beer on appearance because I drink it straight out of the can with a lime wedge shoved straight down in it, but BA is making me give it an appearance score so I just gave it a 5. Although when I play that foul, foul game known as beer pong, a Tecate beer looks like a pretty little lady down at the bottom of my solo cup.

The smell is usually reminiscent of a fart a little bit. That may just be because the beer is skunked though I don't know.

For me the taste is the perfect little Mexican vacation from the world of big stouts and IPAs. It is crisp, light, and slightly bitter.n Don't listen to the haters--enjoy with a lime!

The mouthfeel is thin and just what I need on a hot summer day. Or miserable winter day. Or just whenever I'm craving a Tecate.

Pale, sweetish lager. Very light golden color in the pint glass. Some malt taste and not too much of the usual metallic club soda. Essentially flavorless but manages to project a pleasant beeriness. Decently carbonated with a nice spritz to provide the illusion of body. Very slight tanginess; I suppose the lemon slice might actually improve this.

Certainly nothing to excite even the lager lover, but in a Mexican restaurant faced with the full range of Lites, this is not a bad option.

A-light gold with a thin white head that fades

S-light honey and barley. really smooth and creamy

T-comes in with a really smooth and light taste of faintly roasted honey and barley. its a clean taste. it actually has some hints of belgian sugars to it as well...kinda impressed about that.

M-smooth and creamy carbonation with a semi dry finish

O-a very easy drinking and not terrible beer. as far as lighter beers go, this is awesome. its not a kick in the mouth but its great when you don't feel like getting your taste buds raped.

Light, crisp, refreshing…ish. Like club soda. Tastes like lime if you squeeze a lime in it. I pick up flavors of plastic from the serving cup. There’s a muted honey sweet note on the otherwise unremarkable finish. Eh. I’ll drink it if it’s there and my only other choices are BMCLonestar (this is Texas, after all!) but I could easily never ever have this again and not miss it. For Mexican Independence Day liberate yourself from crappy import lagers and drink something with real flavor. Viva Mexico!

12can into SA perfect pint glass.

A: Pours a very clear very light golden-watery color with a couple finger of thick bright white head that took it’s time fading into a thin collar that left some good sticky patches of lacing down the glass.
S: Dominant notes of sweet cracked grains, breads and crackers. Good dose of ‘beer’ smelling lager yeast and a just the slightest touch of spicy hops.
T: Not getting much of anything other than a touch of syrupy sweetness and a bit of cereal like grains. There’s nothing really offensive which is saying a lot for this style, but there’s definitely not much to this beer flavor wise. Finish is quick and easy, and the aftertaste just leaves a touch of sweetness in your mouth.
M: Clean and easy mouthfeel, light body, and expected bubbly carbonation. Again, nothing lingering, offensive or coating on my palate, which is exciting.
O: Sweet, light and easy to drink. More importantly this beer doesn’t taste like gross stale water. I’m not a fan of the style, but in a pinch this is a better alternative to most.

Beer pours a light golden color. Very large amount of carbonation that persists. Head dissappears almost immediately.

Smell is very slightly citrus like.

Taste is very light, slightly spciy and citrus.

Beer feels a bit thin as far as mouthfeel.

Appearance:Straw to pale-gold and very fizzy. Head is white and foamy, settles quickly but leaves a slight bit of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Thoroughly unappealing. Smells primarily like stale, old beer. Also pick up some faint grain scents, but the overwhelming smell is not good.

Taste: Not much to say here--virtually flavorless. The beer has a nice, crisp finish, and I was surprised to taste a metallic aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Very watery and thin in the mouth, plenty of carbonation and pretty drinkable. I usually like to let a beer sit in my mouth for several seconds to feel how silky it gets, but with Tecate, it was uncomfortable to do so.

Overall: Nat a good beer for anything but slamming a few at a party or something. Would never sit down to sip on a Tecate for the taste, that's for sure.

Had multiple Tecates this weekend, poured one into a glass for review purposes.

Appearance-Straw yellow body. Loads of carbonation streaming up the glass. Creating about a half a finger head the dissipates almost immediately, with suprisingly decent lace.

Smell-Grainy, Earthy. I'm able to detect some citrus and some hops in the nost as well. Very clean.

Taste-Sweet and Bready malts. Nicely balanced. Finish has some citrus along with a light spiciness throughout. Like the smell it's very clean for a AAJ and has some nice flavors.

Mouthfeel-Light bodied with a little prickly carbonation. Crisp and Refreshing.

Overall-When I have a hankering for an inexpensive 6 pack out of a can Tecate will continue to be a go to for me. I really enjoy this beer

Pours (just like a lot of these Mexican lagers) a light straw with a fluffy head. This one sticks around a little longer... but still, dissipates quickly.

Smells spicy, with grain in the background, and a little bit spritzy like seltzer. Cornflakes don't jump out at me for once. At first the spiciness is pleasant, but as it warms I keep smelling it and think... is this me or the beer? Do I need a shower? But nope, it's the beer. Kinda gross. Some play-doh rears its nasty head after a while.

Tastes more of the same. Metallic. There's barely any discernable bitterness, though by the end of the glass I want to scrape my tongue. A faint sweetness builds as well, but that's reasonably pleasant.

Mouthfeel is ok. A little thin for the style.

I'm surprised how little I like this. Before writing this review I've already had half a case of these while in the pool this week, and I enjoyed them all quite thoroughly. Moral of the story, I guess: keep the beer in the can, put the can in a coozy.

12oz can poured into a pint glass.

A- Pale yellow. Overly carbonated. Two finger head dissapears immediately, leaving a small film.

S- Getting some grains and barley in the nose. Not much else.

T- Same as the taste. Very slight hop presence.

M- Watery which I suppose is on par for the style. Could easily drink a couple of these on a hot day.

O- Not too bad for the style, I would prefer this over some of the Adjunct Lagers brewed in the US. Although, it still leaves a lot to be desired.

Poured a 12 ounce can into a frosted mug at a local Mexican restaurant. I had to request the mug. They were out of the draft version. It was not easy to see the color, but it was a pale yellow with a mild head of foam. This was a mild lager with no noticeable aroma of corn. The flavor was had a mild bite of malt with a touch of hops. I enjoyed the beer. I skipped the lime.
