It was on special for a $1... Had to try it.

It's your typical Mexican beer... Light and only drinkable in a Mexican all inclusive resort at the pool side bar. With that said, since I walked into a bar in Arrlington, VA and was offered it for $1.00, I had to at least try it :)

Pale yellow color with a two finger head with low retention. Light unpleasant corn aroma, and booze with metalic notes.
Likewise, sweet corn taste, lots of cardboard and butter. Dry aftertaste.
Light body with low carbonation.
Below average adjunct lager, sweeter, more use of corn, high on off-flavors and less crispy given lack of hops and low carbonation. Stay away, hard to get worse.

12 oz can at fridge temp poured into a pint glass.

Clear straw yellow color, actually holds a decent thin layer of white head with some decent lacing.

Sweet corny grains, almost skunky? Sour?

Creamy Corny grain, hose water, hint of mineral water.

Slightly prickly high carbonation, watery thin mouthfeel.

I just had 3 Mexican adjunct lagers and they all tasted almost exactly alike, only saddle differences. These were even worse than the American versions. I would definatly avoid both at all costs! Don't waste your money even if you are in Mexico.

look: 2 | smell: 2 | taste: 1.75 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Poured from a 12oz can into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a pale yellow/gold with barely a finger's worth of head and almost no lacing at all.

Smell: Hardly any smell at all. Very light whiff of corn and somewhat sour grain.

Taste: First impression was like I was drinking club soda. The aftertaste is what reminded me that I was drinking beer. Again, corn, malt, and that's really it.

Mouthfeel: Very thin and watery, below average amount of carbonation.

Overall: It's a cheap way to get drunk with a group of friends or wash down some barbeque or party food. Not something I'd drink if I'm trying to savor the beer.

Smell : it smell corn, grain and some

Tasted: It taste like some malt beer but with minimal amount of alcohol.

Moutful. It has vverage carbonation.

I like Cornona way better this beer becuase corona is soomther with a much better finish. Not a bad beer for the type. I am not going to buy this beer any time soon though!

I wasn't expecting much from this beer, but boy, was I surprised at how much I liked it.

At first, pouring it out of the bottle is none too impressive. It has an adverse yellow look although it does create a fluffy white head with some lacing down the pint glass. The smell also we your average hoppy scent. Now for the interesting part - for pouring such a head the beer had very little carbonation feel in the mouth. It also had very little after taste, where I expected quite a bit. Speaking of taste. I enjoyed it immensely. Plenty of barley, a nice mix of malt (which these Mex beers specialize at, it seems to me), and just an overall taste that left me wanting for more.

look: 3 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 2.25 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: A pale gold body that boasts some lacing as a finger of head sticks around well enough.

Smell: There is a grainy smell to it that is for sure, and a touch a sandy hops. Warming didn't help it's case either way.

Taste: It's a pretty generic lager to be honest, as subdued malt gives way to a stronger straw and surprisingly unsweet corn, which is rounded off by sandy tasting hops.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation isn't pulling it's weight here, as the beer tastes a bit too watery for my liking. The sandy taste also accentuated itself more and more as the beer went on to my dismay.

Drinkability: Well, I will say this, if it was sweltering outside, I'd grab this stuff fairly quickly. It's incredibly light, and while I wouldn't say it's the easiest drinker, it certainly has more character then other adjuncts.

Final Thoughts: It might not be a fair comparison but this stuff to me is Corona done right. Make no mistake, an award winning beer it is not, and I'm honestly a bit perplexed at how they managed to give the hops that sandy accent, but all in all you could do worse.

I've never had Tecate, so here's my first thoughts from a 24 oz can.

A- Poured into a glass mug. A little darker yellow than most BMC beers. Good amount of head but then fizzles away quickly to a ring around the glass.

S- A sharp corny/hop smell. Sour.

T- Grassy, crispy hops. Some corn comes through. Metal taste. Slight malt at the end. Bitter, not much sweetness in this beer. Reminds me of Miller High Life.

M- Semi-light. Slick on the tongue. It leaves a slippery feeling in the mouth. Lots of carbonation.

Drinkability is so-so. Seems like a chore to drink at times.

O- Overall, it's a below average beer. The smell and taste gave me a headache, not sure why. Other people might like it better.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Have I seriously never had Tecate before? Hm. Time to fix that: This stuff pours a clear pale straw topped by a relatively short-lived finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild corn, light white bread, and hard water. The taste brings in more of the same, with more hard water and a touch of toasted cornmeal. The body is a hefty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a watery feel. Overall, a limp little beer, but one that avoids becoming entirely offensive.

Poured into a dimpled beer mug from a 24 oz. can.

This is my 5th beer in the hunt to find a great American Adjunct style lager (previous brews I have rated in this category are: Rolling Rock, Pacifico, Miller Lite, and PBR. Next up: Bud, Bud Lite, Miller High Life, Modelo, and MGD, just to name a few.

A-No head and high carbonation. The head dissipated within 30 seconds. It reminded me of pouring a Sprite. 1 or 2 lace strands on the glass, that's about it. It poured a deeper yellow straw look, typical adjunct.

s-grainy, corn, and watery (does water smell?)

T-corn, grain, malt. A little bitter and dry in the aftertaste from the hops. This was the best part of this brew.

M-High carbonation. slightly crisp.

Overall-better than Corona, not better than Pacifico. Great beer with Jalapeno Cheese Chex Mix. The beer was satisfying when my mouth was on fire. It is better straight from a bottle. It doesn't look good in a glass. It's just the type of cheap brew to drink while eating Baja fish tacos in a taco shack on the beach.

I tried the canned version from a gas station. It is definitely better than Corona. But nothing to write home about. If someone brought a case to watch a game I'd drink it, but i would not buy it myself. Below average. Now to be fair, if it;s cold enough it can be very drinkable.

okay. first and foremost i want this to be known that this is geared toward a MEXICAN beer which is supposed to be diiferent than the US-produced garbage....
appearance is . . . . typically bland. yellow. straw, no foam to speak of.
smell is.... typical- not especially great but noticeably better than the US version, i think....
taste is... heartier and a tad more deserving of a higher rating than its US-bred cousin. yes, there apparently IS a difference...
mouthfeel.... eh, still light. corn; commercial; medium....
overall . . . . heavier than the US version and much more enjoyed. an hispanic friend introduced this to me and it shows how different a beer can be from the 'export' version'. i can drink probably several of these as opposed to the US version which is thin, corn-y, pathetically disgusting. the natural, mexican version is a much heartier version of the beer and much more enjoyed. this is a much more enjoyable version than the typical US-purchased version.... salud!

The beer poured pale golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had citricness, sweetness and vegetables. Palate was light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were corn, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and mildly bitter. Not one of my favorites.

Good beer for the Price. Bought in Phoenix when I was there for business $10 18 pack. Kept me in beer for most of the week. Better than Corona IMO for this style would buy in the summer when I usually buy Corona if it was available here

Note: I review for the style. I refuse to let my prejudices slant any review. Nothing worse than the typical beer snob reviewing an AAL, same for your AAL drinker reviewing a craft brew.

Not very appealing upon exit of the bottle. It's very clear, pale straw golden color. The head is nice, however. A finger and a half thick with an IPA look to it. The retention is fairly good and it's got nice lacing.

Has a crisp smell if there is such a thing. Almost some floral notes with a hint of honey.

While the style is simply dreadful, this beer isn't terrible as the tastes tries to mimic the smell. It's got an earthy, dirty taste to it, but it's mixed in with some floweriness and a splash of honey.

Fairly crisp and refreshing mouthfeel. Hoppy bitter is there, but it's balanced fairly well with the honey tastes.

Overall, it's not a beer I hate. It's not something I'd make a habit of drinking, but it wouldn't kill me to drink another after cutting the grass on a hot afternoon.

Tecate: I never met a beer I did not like, but some I like less than others and the Tecate fits into the like less than other category. The Tecate has a golden color, ample carbonation and a weak head. The aroma is of corn mash, and having been in ethanol plants, I know what corn mash smells like. The flavor is watery, with a weak malt sweetness and no appreciable hop flavor or bite. PBR or Bud has this brew beat by a mile. I am surprised that there is enough demand for this beer to get a spot on the shelf.

Pours chill hazed golden with a white head that holds up pretty well. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of some husk, veggie oil, slight grain.

The taste is bland. Watered-down husk with only a hint of grain. I suppose there are hops there because it isn't too sweet. On the other hand, it doesn't have any "off" flavors. So it's just pretty much your typical american adjunct lager. It is what it is. Abrupt finish, with little to no aftertaste.

It is crisp, with a typical body for the style.

A watered-down brew. "Inoffensive". There are worst brews out there is about it. Reviewed keeping the style in mind.

Poured this American Adjunct lager from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. This lager poured a pale straw color, produced a thin white head, poor retention and below average amount of lacing left on the glass. The aroma of this lager has some suggestions of grain and hops- not much to talk about on that front. Light in body, the lager features some malted grain, some sweet notes, and just a touch of citric hops at the finish. Mouthfeel is thin and watery, slightly dry finish. Classic, low quality mexican lager, probably no better and no worse then the others. Something I tried once but won't buy again in the future. Prost!

Small white head quickly dies leaving a thin lacing above a clear golden colored beer.

Light hops and yeast aroma on this beer, standard fare for this style of beer.

Light hops taste with a little yeast and maybe a bit of grain malts coming through.

Watery light mouth feel on this light bodied beer that has a light dry aftertaste with a slight bitter taste to it.

Same old song and dance kinda beer, maybe be alright on a real hot summer day when your out on the lake and there's not much choice.

I could reduce this review to one word : Bleh!

For those who require the horrid details;

Pours a very light yellow with an inch and a half of white foamy head that disappears in less than thirty seconds. Smell of sweet grass, corn. Taste is somewhat soapy or medicinial, very watery and thin of body.
Totally unpalletable after first few tastes. ABSOLUTELY serve tounge numbingly cold!!

Better still, buy something else!

Into a pilsener (also had in a pint glass, nothing changed):

A: super clear yellow body, half finger white head appears for less than ten seconds and dies to nothing. Some carbonation is seen rising.

S: mixture between corn, rice and grain, some light malts ever so slightly.

T: pretty much the same.

M: light, crisp with nothing harsh on the tongue and pretty watery. This is super drinkable

O: well, for an AAL, I would say I think I would have it again depending upon what else was served and perhaps the food. As a beer, I want to say it is perhaps a bit too watery, so it leaves me to say, just average altogether.
