Managed to sneak this one into the Festval of Beers in Brisbane, but after i tasted i wondered why i even bothered, very bad. Amber-red colour. Zero head retention. Sweet toffee and plastic, watery. They obviously used corn in this one, almost as bad as the regular Dos Equis.

12 oz. bottle
A: Quarter finger head, dark amber color typical of viennas.
S: Smells malty and like alcohol; no other pleasant smells in the brew.
T: Bitter taste and cheap alcohol flavor - the bitterness is not from the hops and tastes awful.
M: Overcarbonated in mouth.
D: I hate this, so not drinkable.

So it is Cinco de Mayo and I have absolutely no connection to the culture of it but here I am with a Mexican beer. I've been told this is the best Mexican macro out there.
Pours a deep reddish amber with a tiny white head that quickly dissipates without lacing.
The smell is ultra light, some light and toasted malt is all that I get.
The taste is putrid, just funky watery corn, I was expecting somethign decent actually. This is crap.
The mouthfeel is ultra carbonated and it tingles your gums after a drink.
Well it is only slightly more interesting than a Corona so it isn't worth trying really.

Pours a clear amber color with no head or lace. It's aroma is caramel and bread crust. The flavor is sweet malt with no hop bite and a hint of caramel, bland. The mouthfeel is thin. Dos Equis Amber Lager is just a regular beer, nothing special, not recommended.

Well, they did the "amber" part right, but that unfortunately seems to be all. A head appears and stays a few seconds longer than expected, but eventually the gargantuan bubbles pop and leave a flat beer. Aroma is of sweet metallic grain with definite apple cider characteristics. There is a bit of promise (hence the .5) with a note of floral German hops. Flavor is amazingly subtle. Light plastic-coated caramel. Pretty well-balanced but leaves some metallic and astringent notes on the tongue. Feel starts off with rough carbonation but by the end is pretty flat and slick. Neither feel is good.
Its head lasts a little longer than most macros, its color is darker, it has more malt presence and body, but in the end it is still not something I can imagine wanting to drink. It must be that momentary caramel sweetness that helps it sell. There is just not much there, and it has a bad finish. Not recommended.

Small capped bottle poured into a pint.
Very light, almost translucent yellow beer, with a thin white head that does not hold at all.
Aroma is just not there, and the same can be said for the taste. It is very thin on the palate, and you keep smelling and trying again so you can write something meaningful, but it is just near tasteless. Add a lemon, so it tastes like lemon; but the best option is to stay away.

tried this beer for the first time thought about it for a while.
A= pours a medium amber color, with no head.
S= doesn't have much of a smell at all.
T= watery taste as if you did a no-no and put ice in your beer.
MF=watery with bubbles
i was so mad that i bought a 6pack, i have a high respect for beer and never pour a beer out, but in this case i poured two out of six down the drain. its impossible to get a head out of this beer, so that means no lacing. i will never buy this again.
cheers! ... i guess

Had this beer at the Amigo Spot in San Diego. Served in a pint glass.
A-very thin white head and a medium amber body.
S-clean smell, nothing really there
T-faint grain and faint hops nothing really distinguishable
M-light
D-I guess better than other macro imports but I see why they always offer the lime. I would avoid.

It's got a nice Amber color to it and it smells really good until I sipped it. I got it on tap and I do not believe that they cleaned the filter at all because it tasted like metal and there was no fizz in it. It was not a good beer. It was only $2 on tap and it was because the bar had too much of it. It was a disappointment.

12 oz bottle.
Clear dark amber, fizzy tan, short lived head.
Aroma is caramel mixed with corn, combined gives it a dirty sock kind of smell.
Flavor is mostly nonexistent, a little malty, a little soapy.
Not very good. Pairs well with bad, chain style mexican food.

Served in a pint glass.
Appearance: Clear brown-amber body with an almost nonexistent, fizzy, white head.
Smell: Lager yeast, rotten citrus, and BMC sourness.
Taste: Tart, sour citrus, bitter malt, and lager yeast. Quite sour and skunky on the whole, but still feasible.
Mouthfeel: Very light and spritzy.
Drinkability: This beer sucks, but it still goes down smoother than a lot of other cheap macros.

12oz bottle into SA perfect pint.
A: Pours a dark caramel color with a thin short lived head that quickly disappeared into a faint scum.
S: I get a few notes of sweet caramel, dry grains, and wet dog.
T: Light watery flavors of wet cardboard and old grains. The finish is plastic like, and the aftertaste is a bit sour.
M: Super fizzy carbonation, light body, and a watery mouthfeel with a drying finish.
O: This was really gross tasting. If this is supposed to be the same style as Boston Lager then the differences are night and day.

look: 3 | smell: 2 | taste: 1.5 | feel: 1.5 | overall: 1.5
Appearance: It's a transparent, dark amber color with a foamy one finger head. Retention was short and lacing was rather light.
Smell: It's mostly corn and grains. There is a bit of a malty smell, but it's very light. But, it does give some hope of a caramel malty taste. Hops are light to non-existent.
Taste: My hopes are pretty much shattered. It's all corn and grains. Very, very reminiscent of a macro. It does not have the malty taste I had hoped for, nor are hops noticeable. Disappointing. Very watered down taste.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's light bodied. But, you kind of have to choke it down. Not drinkable at all. It doesn't taste good. Overall, it's not a good beer. I wouldn't recommend it.

Another dingleberry left over from New Years Eve.
Rare Vos tumbler. Couple inches of creamer-colored head. Rich, shiny copper brew.
Smells of sticky caramelized wort with a touch of cider & bottle cap.
Sharp metallic twang upfront. Taste is salty & stale biscuits. Finish tastes like boiled veggie water & hair.
Carbonation is out in front trying to detour you away from the actual taste. Frothy, but once you get underneath it, it is very watery. The alcohol stands practically naked.
If it didn't look so pretty in a glass I wouldn't of even tried.

32oz frosty mug on tap
Brown in color more than amber, nice head that maintained for a while. Slight lacing.
Smells like an AAL. Almost of corn and malt.
Taste was a bit bland. Tasted of carbonated water, corn, roasted malt and grain.
Easy to drink, high carbonation level, finished dry.
Would not drink again. Certainly wasn't a well crafted beer. Reminded me of some dry beers. I see why a lot of Mexican beers are served with limes in them, because this flavorless, dry beer, needed something to add a little life to it.

had this at the local mexican resturant. Served too cold. medium copper with no head at all. I mean none, nada, zippo.
Smell was a little off but not actually bad. Mild malt and thats about all.
Tasted weak and watery. Mouthfeel had way too much tingly in it, like a soda pop.
Skip it an look for something better.

Limp head. Almost no head even with a wild pour. Looks whatever.Smells like industrial cleaners. Tastes a bit like some kind of berry Kool-Aid. Cotton candy dry mouth aftertaste. Does not go well with Mexican or any food.. It's just the kind of beer that says "I don't care. I'm just barely trying."

I've had the regular Dos Equis Lager Especial plenty of times, so I thought when I tried the amber lager it would be a step up and maybe offer something a little more tasty than the regular adjunct lager. Boy was I wrong. Drinking this straight out of the bottle, I cannot really comment on the appearance or the smell. That which I did smell out of the bottle (I know this isn't the way you are supposed to smell a beer) was just bad. Like someone tried to make a high quality lager and it just went bad somewhere down the line. It was surprisingly skunky, slightly better smelling than a Corona or some other cheap Mexican swill adjunct beer. The taste was ever worse than the smell. It was kinda metallic with hints of alcohol. Really? I can taste the alcohol in this beer at only 4.7% ABV? Something is clearly wrong here. Dos Equis Amber had very little to offer in term of hops or malts used and just tasted like generic "beer" like any other adjunct only slightly worse. There was definitely some sweetness from what I imagine is corn, but other than that, this tasted horrible. I'd take an American macro lager or even the regular Dos Equis over this. Maybe it was because I drank it out of the bottle or maybe the bottle was already skunked or bad. But I'll be honest, this was one of the worst beers I have had in recent memory.

Look: Caramel color with a 1/4 inch head and no retention
Smell: Dirty mexican bath water with a toffee note
Taste: Again same as the nose. The beer does taste better than some of the other awful mexican beers out there but still not good
Mouthfeel: Thin and fairly carbonated
Overall: Again just an awful example of what a beer could be

12 oz, undated.
Pours with a darker than expected reddish body, head is piddly and dies a quick death.
Smell is very faint, all that can be picked up are a weak toffee note and some grass.
Taste is mild. Sweet, syrupy malts reminiscent of clover honey. Sweet finish as well with a touch of grain. Hops are conspicuously absent.
Watery body, drastic undercarbonation.
Unbalanced, all malt. Like a doppelbock mixed 50/50 with water. Expensive to boot due to import status. Not at all worth it.

Poured from a 12 fl oz bottle into a pint glass. I don't always drink Dos Equis, but when I do, it's usually because someone left a couple on my fridge...
Appearance: Pours a weak head and a watery copper body.
Smell: The best description of the smell I can give is "stale" - otherwise it doesn't smell like anything at all.
Taste: This beer literally tastes like nothing. I had a Michelob a little earlier which knocked the socks off of this Dos Equis. It's a shame, because I used to be a big fan in my younger days.
Mouthfeel: Here's where I can give some points back. Nicely carbonated and, for what it's worth, refreshing.
Overall: It's been a while since I last had a Dos Equis and I'm afraid my tastes have just changed. Either that or this beer is trying too hard not to offend anyone's sensibilities.

I tried this beer on March 7, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto. The beer poured a solid reddish-brown colour with a thin white head. The aroma was primarily grassy with a little malt. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, but highly carbonated. The flavour was grassy, a little malt, and a little sourness. Definitely better than a Corona or a Tecate.

On tap in a mug. Pours deep copper color with fizzy head that dissipates quickly. The nose is unimpressive, some whole grain bread and caramel. The taste is slightly metallic with caramel sweetness and the palate is pure water. I drink this with Mexican food, overall just average.

When poured it had nice amber color with very little foam. That was the best of this beer. The smell of any spices or hops were not evident and the taste was very flat, with no flavor what so ever. Will NEVER waste my money or time drinking this amber ale!
