Notes:
Irish "Black Gold" in a glass, this dry stout rivals the best of Dublin itself. A blend of seven grains results in a beer of subtle complexity. A substantial portion of this grain is roasted barley which creates the intense colour, aroma and flavour that defines a great stout. Poured in the traditional manner, it takes a while to pour, but is well worth the wait.

Rating taken from notes, dated March/08- At the brewpub deep dark brown pour, unleashes a thin and creamy mocha head. Roasty nose hints at dark chocolate, some smoke, a bit of anise, but overall it is really roasty. Tastes of bitter roasty coffee, some dark chocolate, a bit lactic, slightly smoky. In the finish, a marked roasty component does well with dry cocoa and dark chocolate. Quite creamy and drinkable.

Had a pint from the brewpub in downtown P'boro. Thick black body, with a tan-coloured nitro head. A wonderful appearance, but the aroma seemed a bit muted. However, I did find smoke, roasted malts and coffee in the aroma, all of which turn up in the flavour. Smooth on the palate with a very dry finish. Quite a nice example of a dry stout, and the best Olde Stone brew I tasted.

Now this was a great beer. Came black as midnight. When held up to light, their was no red shining through at all. Pitch black. Head was thick. About three fingers, and a light coffee & cream colour. Smelled bitter. Roasted coffee beans and burnt toast. Just the way I like my stouts. Taste was as great as the smell. Bittersweet dark chocolate, black coffee and roasted malty goodness. Mouthfeel was smooth, though a little thin. I would have preferred a somewhat thicker mouthfeel. An excellent stout. Not drinkable as a session beer, perhaps, but great to have. Went great with the blackened cajun catfish.
