This beer is served from a bottle with a blue label and is NOT to be confused with the similar bottle with a different brown label which contains the inferior draft (fici) version.

I live in Turkish North Cyprus and for me this is the best Pils regularly available on this part of the island (though believe me, that's not saying much.)

It has a nice pale-golden colour, the smell is hop-laden, the taste is nothing out of the ordinary and as for the mouth feel... some say it's too gassy but I think it's all right.

All in all, and taking into account that it's just a mass-produced pils I don't think it's too bad at all. But please remember to read this review in the context of the Beer Desert that is North Cyprus.

Presentation: Classy looking green bottle with a basic but eye-catching label and neck label. Bottle is embossed with “EFES” as well as “Premium Beer”.

Appearance: Poured from 12oz bottle into a 14oz Pokal glass. Pours out a crystal clear pale hay color with a 2 finger light airy white foam head. Head retention was 3min 16sec. Good lacing.

Smell/Aroma: Smell is very light with a sweet grain and corn malt scent along with a slight white wine aroma.

Flavor/Taste: Taste is very big on corn malts with a skunky grainy touch. Also has a slight fruit essence with hints of apple and white grape. Interesting.

MouthFeel/Drinkability: Light bodied with a average carbonation. Light and drinkable.

Overall/Comments: This was and average beer overall that really didn't stand out in any way at all. Very light not overly filling. Glad I tried this Turkish beer to broaden my horizons. Classified as a German Pilsner @ 5% ABV. Consumed 4/24/2013.

300 ml

Pours a clear light gold, inch of white head dissipates to a film.

Smells of crisp barley malt and light grassy and citrus notes.

Flavor is of light barley malt and some mild dry hop bitterness.

Medium body with a crisp carbonation across the tongue.

A highly drinkable Euro lager, good flavor, easy going and refreshing. Definitely a good brew to throw back with some spicy eastern Turkish food.

(Served in a strange)
Best before 21/10/11
A- this beer pours a clear golden yellow with a swirling microcarbonation and a creamy off-white head that sticks to the glass with each sip.

S- The green slightly sweet sulfur aroma blends with a corn hint in the finish and some Pils malt hints as it warms.

T- The clean taste has some soft slightly dry sulfur hints but not any malt or hops really come through.

M- The light mouthfeel has crisp fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- This beer has a nice Pilsner smell but that doesn’t translate at all in the flavor. It is very clean and washed out.

Had it a lot during a trip to Turkey but never had paid attention to it, so decided to get one for an evaluation. Bright pale golden color with three fingers of fluffy head with low retention.
Light aroma of non-malted cereals (not corn) with notes of lemon, vanilla and bread.
Although it tastes like an adjunct lager, there is something different going on. Besides the malt and cereals base, hops can be felt and there is some citrusy to it. It does help the fact they used rice as opposed to corn as adjunct. Mildly dry and bitter aftertaste with residual herbal notes.
Medium body which is news for the style and good carbonation.
Above average adjunct lager, crisp, clean and refreshing. If you like the style it is definitely worth a try.

Spent several months bicycling in Turkey in 2010, and this is the monopoly beer there. One bottle after a long hot day is tolerable, two bottles and you're reminded what a poor quality adjunct brew this really is. I had some New Zealander friends spending 6 months in Istanbul who had arrived shortly before I did, and initially we complained about Efes. When I saw them later on my way out of the country, they had given up drinking beer completely, and I was wildly scrounging for anything NOT Efes.

Give it a pass!

a better than average euro beer, I think my first from turkey. the pour is clear golden pee colored with a lively white head that actually has pretty good retention. the nose is extract and adjunct, like a crappy lager, but the yeast is different and richer, some potential here. the flavor is very clean and crisp, neat and tidy. lacking the malt profile of a traditional pilsener, this is more of an adjunct sort of malt beer, but there is some decent hopping towards the finish, a light semisweet fruitiness, and an easy drinking character that's enhanced by great carbonation and quite a bit more body than most of these have. I would have preferred a beer that speaks to the dynamic Turkish culture, one with a touch of east and west flare, but I will settle for a better than average euro brew. not bad, especially when ice cold.
