3rd Birmingham pub of 18th September 2012 mini-crawl: The Barton Arms.

After a pint of Oakhams JHB I thought I’d have a change of direction and had a half-pint of this fine Weizen: it was poured into a small Krombacher Weizen glass and looked a picture. I enjoyed it just as much as I did its bottled version back in 2008.

Orange and misty look to it: strong aromas of vanilla, bananas and semi-sour citrus fruits.

Tasted just right; everything you’d expect in a good quality Weizen, but with a little bit extra thrown in. Flavoursome and perfectly balanced between tart bitterness and fruity refreshment.

Comes out of the tap a hazy honey-golden with a thick, pale honey head. Rich, nose-filling wheaty aroma has a firm citrus undertone that is sweet and mainly lemon. Rich, wheaty flavor has yeasty and sweet lemon tones and hints of orange and grass. Lively, fizzy, full-bodied texture completes one of the best wheat beers I have ever enjoyed.

Late night after dinner imperial pint was a great way to end the evening. Shared with my wife on a square in the center of berlin. The best part was the significant banana aroma that leaped from the glass. Would recommend to anyone who travels to the great city of Berlin.

Considering it is a mass produced one: surprising, high quality, fun - and great money-value.
Cloudy, pale-gold colour with sexi head.
Light, cirspy to limited (and well balanced) extent, touch on nuts and lemon. Not the typical Weissbier taste, in a fun way.
Quite a reach taste for a mass produced beer. Very impressive.
Downside: smell - where have you gone too...? (should note: cigarrete smoke in the surounding may took it away).

330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy medium orange with a huge billowy white head. Takes awhile for the head to settle to pour the rest of the bottle into the glass. Lots of lacing left after the head does begin to fade.

Aroma of banana and clove and some light bread. All of it is on the mild side.

The mediocrity continues into the flavor. More banana, clove, and bubblegum along with some bread. Quite watery mouthfeel with just a very light amount of bitterness. Clean finish.

Overall, a very quaffable hefe but very unimpressive at the same time. Watery and lacks flavor. Probably not one I will pick up again.

Hazy apple juice color with a long-lasting foamy head. Smells sweet and sour. The taste is fruity and yeasty with a pleasant banana flavor note. This is one of two widely available wheat beers in Sarajevo (the other one is Erdinger) so I don’t have enough wheat beers to judge it against, but drawing on my memory this seems to be a true representative of the style, and a pretty good one at that. Anyway, a pleasantly tasting beer and a nice alternative to the ever-present bland pale lagers.

500 ml.bottle, crystal clear colour with a big head, the usual for the style, as it is the rest : smell of bananas, cloves, coriander and a bit of citrus, with some funkiness included. Lighter in the palate than one could expect, I don't really notice too much carbonation. Palate is the same: bananas, coriander, clove and some citrus. Just correct, I'd rather have some of the others weizens out there.

bottle that was 5+ months past its best before date.

cloudy butterscotch color with less head than I expect from the style

smell is smoke and butter and bread

taste is more of the same, with some bananas and bubblegum following and a smokey finish

nice carbonation with a clean finish. I would like it to be more chewy

picked this up as part of a build your own 6 pack, and I will definitely look for it again.

Appearance: An opaque, hazy deep gold color. Had a solid foamy white head that lasted a long time with excellent lacing.

Sent: Wheat and yeast with hints of banana, citrus, malt and clove spice

Taste: First cloves and banana then some spice and citrus.

Mouth feel: Smooth, medium body, dry finish with a bit of copper

Overall Impression: Might drink it at a party, but probably wouldn't pay for it again.

12oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured a hazy yellow color a very nice head, good finger and a half of head that settles to a nice thin layer with great retention. Good start

S: Has all of the Hef notes you are looking for, banana, citrus, malt and clove spice.

T: The banana hits right up front with a hint of sweetness from biscuity malt, then I'm getting a light citrus note and a touch of spiciness, not much hops to speak of.

M: Strangely more medium bodied than I was expecting, smooth mouth feel, and pretty dry finish.

O: A well rounded Hef, pretty normal for the style but looking for.

Reddish orange colour with a large, foamy white head on top that has the great retention.

Wheat and yeast with spice and coriadner on top of that. There is some clove in there too and the beer has a good, traditional hefeweizen smell.

Some cloves and banana coming through first foloowed by some spice and citrus. There is a solid, pretty normal wheat beer taste to this one but it is enjoyable nonetheless.

Smooth with a medium body and similar carbonation, there is a nice amount of spice and the beer tastes quite refreshing.

Quite a nice wheat beer with pretty much what you would expect from the style. Tere is nothing out of the ordinary but it is well balanced and is one I wouldn't mind trying again.

A. An opaque, hazy deep gold color, with a solid foamy white head and only a little bit of lacing.

S. Very strong wheat and metallic malt scent.

T. It has a thick, malty and yeast taste. The wheat is strong, but the flavor is a bit tampered...or other flavors. A bit too much. Some grape or dark fruit taste. A mild alcohol taste.

M. Carbonated. A bit of tingle.

O. A basic wheat. Nothing special or memorable, but not bad, either. I'm not a huge wheat-beer fan, so maybe I'm missing something, but I think this is simply a solid effort.

12oz bottle from BroueHaha QC for 2.75$

Appearance – Hazy amber colour with a huge size fizzy/foamy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains/wheat, citrus, yeast/spice, bananas

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste grains/bread mixed with lemon and a yeasty spiciness. There is also a fair bit of ripe banana flavour and pepper. It ends with a pretty spicy/peppery aftertaste.

Overall – Not bad at all. It has a surprising amount of kick to it during the aftertaste and some good fruity notes. A beer that is well worth trying.

Krombacher beer - I am a huge fan of Weizen and that good ole wheat beer.

Appearance - Cloudy bountifulness and a nice mellow yellow to slight orange hues

Smell - Wheaty and good hop notes. Not much else there besides this but its all it needs

Taste - same as the delicious smell but with a bit of copper taste. I don't really like the copper but still definitely a decent taste.

Mouthfeel - Not much carbonation here but with the taste and smell not much is needed here.

Overall - A really decent Weizen, just a bit less copper in the taste would be great.

Drank from the only glass I could find at the time (Duvel) that brought out some subtle flavors, but still not much of a banana taste, which is a good thing if you ask me.

Refreshing summer time drink, if you like wheat beers, you'll not want to pass this one up.

Poured from a bit above the glass gave this beer a big white to slightly off white head above a clear golden colored beer.

Aroma is big on banana with cloves and light lemon and yeast mixed in to give it a little more fullness.

The banana and cloves share the taste about equally with some lemon tartness sneaking in there.

A slight dry aftertaste with some cloves and citrus hanging around on this light bodied beer that keeps a light lacing throughout the drinking of this 12 ounce bottle.

Very weizen, if that's what your into.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured into a weizen glass with a two finger high bright white head that has good retention properties and consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are aromas of wheat and clove in the nose along with hints of bananas.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some notes of yeast.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and has some refreshing properties. It is a good representation of the style.

Picked up a bottle at Euro Market in Astoria. Best by 12/9/12. Poured a hazy amber with a two-finger head. The flavor is lacking in banana and clove. Instead it's a cleaner, creamy wheat bread. There's a touch of citrus mixed in with the toast and an adequate hop balance. The carbonation also seems a little too sharp. There's certainly a subtle earthy element to this beer, but it's too subdued.

Pretty good hefe. Pours a slightly hazy gold color into a Bud Select pilsner glass. Head is about average size with delicate bubbles. Leaves some lacing on the glass.

Aroma is strong. Lemon zest, cloves, wheat and a little banana /coriander.

Taste is good but not as robust as the aroma. Mostly lemon zest and wheat, with the spices taking a back seat.

Mouthfeel is light but not watery and refreshing.

I've had better hefes but this one is pretty good. Would not turn one down on a warm day.

Krombacher Weizen has a thick, creamy, cream-colored head and a bubbly, very cloudy, yellow-orange appearance, with some good lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is of white wheat bread, some coriander, and a faint citrus. Taste is of light lemon, white wheat bread, a touch of coriander, and the faintest banana undertone. Bitterness is low. Mouthfeel is medium, and Krombacher Weizen finishes refreshing, dry, and easy drinking. This is a good beer.

A slightly older bottle, looks like a little over a year.
Kind if dark gold pour, half finger of white head.

Aroma, grainy wheat, light clove and ginger.

Taste, caramel, grainy malt. Just faint clove and banana, only accenting unlike so many American versions. Good straight forward version of the style.

Lighter side body wise, but coats pretty well. There is a slight stickyness to it. Drank easy after a day of yard work.

Pours a cloudy burnt orange with just over an inch of head. The head dissipates quickly into a sporadic lacing. The smell was strong citrus and spice, but not really sweet. The taste had strong citrus overtones, but a heavier hoppiness than I expected. Not unpleasant. Mouthfeel was a bit grainy and ...persistent? Sticky? Kinda like a dog with a spoonful of peanut butter, I have to urge to lick my teeth to get it off. But the whole thing wasn't bad, I may get more to flesh out a sampling of the style, but it doesn't rank among the best of.

Poured from 330 cl bottle into a weizen.

A: Cloudy golden hue. Pours about a 2 finger, foamy, white head. Settles slowly. Some thick initial lacing mostly retreats into the body of brew, but does leave a sporadic display remaining.

S: Fresh hay, lemon, cardboard, and rubber.

T: Light lemon citrus accentuates a pungent, heavily fermented wheat. Paper-y.

M: Light, crisp body. A bit of a washed out feel. Pungent finish lingers.

D: Easy drinking, but there is something of an off-putting characteristic.

Atmosphere is pretty solid. Thick head, and fair lacing. Nose is full with grain, citrus, and synthetic notes. Flavor is a really pungent wheaty tone with a bid of citrus and kind of a cardboard-y type thing going on. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

A- pours a cloudy burnt orange amber color with a healthy finger and a half of off white head. Ok head retention.

S- predominate clove aroma with some light banana notes. Honey like sweetness from the malt with some hearty doughy wheat bread characteristics on the finish.

T- honey glazed wheat bread and a doughy aspect on the start. Spice and clove come out mid palate with a touch of under-ripe banana. Finishes a little weak with a light grainy malt and spice.

MF- doughy bready moutfeel with a light medium body. Overly carbonated... No bueno.

D- decent drinkability.

Overall a decent Weizen.

-Appearance 4.0: No head to speak of. Very attractive beer in the glass, however. A deep golden color, but opaque and somewhat cloudy. If I saw this beer poured in a glass, I would drink it without knowing what it was.

-Smell 4.0: Wow. Delicious bouquet of yeast, sugars and barley. Somewhat a mid-level scent but very appealing.

-Taste 4.0: Front is somewhat sweet and the middle is vaguely citrusy. Finish is yeasty and has a delicious (and unexpected) light flavor of...vanilla. It must be noted that the finish is also dry and there is almost no aftertaste at all.

-Mouthfeel 4.0: Mid-to-high level of carbonation in this beer, but it is an excellent complement to the flavor of the brew.

-Overall 4.0: Excellent Weizen/ weiss beer. How do you know when you are making an excellent beer that is completely indicative of the style? When it perfectly embodies the style. Krombacher perfectly embodies Weizen. Recommended.
