Talk about easy to get to. S-Bahn from the HB and then like a picturesque 5 minute walk. It felt more like I was walking to a country club than a biergarten, but that is what you get for the suburbs.
Once inside I was taken with how green a beautiful everything was. We grabbed a bench that looked down into the valley behind the garten. The center of the garten had a pavillion where a jazz band was playing, and not too loudly. They also were broadcasting the Germany World Cup qualifier. It was a gorgeous night out and there were plenty of people very few of whom looked like tourists out for a beer and a picnic ( my favorite part of gartens is I can bring my own food).
The beer was very tasty, they had a Helles, Dunkel, Weissbier and a couple others I don't remember off hand all in the Spaten/Franziskaner variety. The service was nice. I actually talked to the guy pouring my beers. He was from Argentina and we talked about the Bronx (where he has a cousin). All in all it was an inviting place that was much more laid back than most of the gartens in Munich proper.

Another Biergarten I had been trying to visit for sometime. It's easily found from downtown München. Take S-Bahn 7 to Grosshesselohe stop and it's just about a 10 minute walk from there. You can make it a double and hit the IsarBräu brewpub as well, which is right at the S-Bahn stop. The WaWi Biergarten has plenty of long tables situated amongst towering trees, with a small band-stand located in the middle. There was no band on the day I visited, but I can imagine it must be a great setting - outdoors with some food, Bier and music while letting the time flow by... Along the right side of the grounds upon entering are the Bier/food stands. They had 5-6 Biers available this day, all Spaten products, including Helles, Oktoberfest, Dunkles, a couple Weissbiers and Optimator. Nice offerings! A wide array of foods were also there for the taking, including wursts, cheeses, and what I opted for: Leberkase and Kartoffelsalat. It was a huge portion, giving me trouble finishing. All the people serving, whether it was Bier or food, were quite pleasant. WaWi is a relaxing place, made all the more enjoyable be tasty food and well-made Bier. Prosit!!
