This place has a decent beer selection, several beers that I had not seen at other places in NC. I like the fact that they sell singles (although I think they are a bit pricey on some of them). Quite a bit of thier floor space is dedicated to BMC products
They are not particularly friendly, or helpful.
Most of the staff know nothing, or very little, about beer. There is supposed to be a discount for cash or debit, when I tried to use my debit the wanted to argue that the discount is only for cash not debit. Even though I have been there a couple of times before and used debit and recieved the discount.
Not a terrible place, but based on the service there are other places I would rather spend my hard earned money.

Hello, this is Keith Haze the new beer buyer for this establishment. I have done a near total reset and invite you to come and see. I am adding beers as fast as I can and will be happy to add any more by request. We have a rotating growler station and our selection is improving weekly. I am on the premise every day except for wend, I am getting my staff up to speed as fast as I can. We are having beer tastings every friday and saturday from 4-6

Southern Spirits is more known for its liquor selection. They are right across the SC border from South Charlotte, allowing for a better selection of booze.
On the beer/wine side, they have all the standard items, with a few decent craft beers. They recently started filling growlers, so that's an added bonus. Their growler filling selection ranges from the basic Founders IPA to Lion Stout, but rotates regularly.
Overall its a nice little place with the best beer selection in the immediate vicinity, but there are better places with a better beer selection within 10-15 minutes.

Enough space to get around the basic appearing store. Selection around the room was descent, starting with the foreign stuff. Smaller selection of American micros and locals. Quite a bit of the big stuff, but you can easily avoid it.
Reminds one a bit of Frugal MacDougals, though they seemed to have a few different brews. More Belgians here, though MacDougals has more in general.
Service was fine, got asked once if I could be helped, but I really don't require much help so this is not much of a point for me. Counter help had less personality, but they staff those like any store, same as MacDougals.
Prices looked good to average.

I forgot who told me about Southern Spirits (and it's proximity to Charlotte), but I'm glad they did. Living so close to the border is a great advantage--just a short drive to choose from beers not available in NC.
The selection of singles (all I ever buy) is above average, with ample choices of Belgian, German, American Craft, and others. Beer advocates stick to the outer walls, as the main floor is dedicated to the Big 3--I'll assume the buyers know their clientele better than I do, but it seems a waste.
I make my way there about once a month and always find something I haven't had. Discount prices with cash or debit.

I like to make a trip to Southern Spirits when visiting family in Lancaster, SC. The store is on Hwy 521 just before you get to the NC state line. Very clean and neat store. The clerks are always friendly and willing to help. Specials are usually on your left when you come in. Also on your left will be a wall of singles so you can mix and match your own six pack. Good selection for SC and it seems to get better every trip. Last time I was there they had Chimay, Bear Republic, Magic Hat, New Holland, Brooklyn, Boulder, amoung others. Worth the trip if you are in the area.

I'm not easily impressed by a beer store. But this was a really pleasant surprise. Dropped down while visiting family in Charlotte and found a huge selection of singles and 6-ers, with a lot of popular (and sometimes hard to find) imports and all the best local craft breweries represented. The staff was really helpful, and the store was organized to find just what you wanted rather quickly. We "made our own" six pack (two, actually) and tried a lot of great beers before the weekend was out--including many that I hadn't seen before up in MD. Nice place. And be sure to sign up for the VIP card!

Southern Spirits was a regular stop when I lived in the Ballantyne area. They have a great selection which I'm sure is now improved being that the cap in SC has been popped. Even so they have had high gravity beers here for quite some time. Service has always been top notch here and friendly. Store is split into two sides with liquor on one and beer/wine on the other. Not to mention you can purchase fireworks here as well. Occasionally on the weekends there is a guy out front that sells kick ass BBQ as well. There is something to be said for a place where you can purchase items fill your stomach, blow shit up and get lit all in the same stop. Overall they don't have the best selection in the greater Charlotte area BUT I have found things here that I hadn't been able to get anywhere else. Prices are very fair and you can find the occasional beer sampling here as well.

This store is right on Hwy 521 S as you work your way north toward Charlotte. The store just unerwent some rennovations so everything was very clean and neat and orderly. The clerk greeted me as I entered but she didnt seem like she was the helpin type. All of the beers are immediately to the left. There is a pretty good selection for SC standards. They offer a discount for cash paying customers as well, which is always nice. However, I would driver the extra ten or fifteen minutes to NC to find places with better selection. That was the only drawback about this place.

This place is very convenient for me. It is in SC, but is just over the NC line near Southeast Charlotte. It sells Beer/wine/liquor, but is still fairly small compared to a Total Wine or Frugal. Quality of the place is pretty good, with an average selection. If the store were larger, perhaps they would have more of a selection. Their wine section is pretty good, if you wanted a change, and the liquor selection is typical. On to the beers!....They carry the more common Rogues, Sam Smiths, Weihenstephaners, etc. I shoot over here when I want something better than what the grocery store has, but I'm too lazy to drive to Total Wine, which is better, but further away for me. It is worth checking out.
