I just stopped in recently when I was visiting my sister in Jacksonville. This place had some pretty good ratings here on BA, so I thought I should check it out.

They had some really high quality brews. There was a lot of stuff that I was able to pick up here that isn't available in Texas. I was able to pick up some GD Hades, Butte Creek DIPA 06, Ommegeddon, Gulden Drake, Mojo IPA, Hazed and Infused, several Fantomes, Roddenbach original and Grand Cru, DFH WWS, and several Jolly Pumpkins.

The selection was pretty good - it was the best and widest selection of all the stores in Florida that I have been to. It was much better than Total Wine. Plenty of Belgians and American micros.

The service at Broudy's was really good. All of the people who worked there were really friendly and one guy even helped carry one of the boxes of beer out to my car.

This place, overall, was really great. I was really happy that I stopped by, and I would definitely go there again if I ever find myself in Jacksonville.

Sadly, Broudy's seems to be going downhill as of late. A few months ago it seemed like they started to get fewer and fewer new beer in and then they put much of their craft beer stock on sale. I went in a few days ago for the first time in a couple of months and it seems that they are continuing to pare down their craft beer selection. While they still have a much better selection than the average liquor store in this area, they no longer seem to be getting the rarities that they once did. They had nothing new since my last visit (2+ months ago) and were conspicuously lacking beers such as Rogue John John, Southern Tier Mokah, and Cigar City Humidor that have recently shown up at the other leading beer stores in the area (Total Wine and Grassroots).

So, it is with a heavy heart that I must downgrade my rating of Broudy's. They are still one of the better stores in the city, but they have dropped from a commanding first place to, at best, third among Jacksonville craft beer retailers.

Original Review:

This is as good as it gets in Jacksonville. Their prices are comparable to Total Wine (maby a bit higher) and Broudy's has a better selection. Noteable amoung the beers Broudys carries that Total does not are Fantome and De Proef. They also seem to make a real effort to get in as many new beers as they can as soon as they become available. The staff is pretty hit or miss as far as beer knowlege goes, but some of them are well informed. Personally I think there is a lot to be said for the fact that, unlike Total Wine, they take the time to keep their products fronted and properly arranged; which implies that they might care enough to treat the beer right during storage and keep their stock rotated.

Also, one reviewer said that they didn't offer singles, but in my experiance they will let you break up six packs.

I will echo the comments of most of the other reviews. A nice selection, but not outstanding when compared to other cities. I was pleased to find a couple of Fantome brews (Pissenlit and Printemps) which I had not tried yet. I also picked up a Bison Farmhouse Ale and a Loterbol Bruin. Good micro options (Rogue, Avery, Great Divide), and a nice selection of Belgiums and Euros. Wished they offered 12oz. singles, but you have to go up to European Street Cafe on Beach Blvd. for that. My only complaint was that the staff was not particularly well informed regarding beer. Quality seemed fine, and prices were reasonable.

As others have said, a great selection for this city. Most micros found in Jax are supplied from either Micro Man in Tampa or Unique in Orlando, and the problem is finding what you want, when you want. But this Broudy's store ALWAYS seems to have a little of everything in stock. From great Euros, to many Micros: Avery, Boulder, Great Divide, Tommyknocker, Sierra Nevada, North Coast, Lost Coast, Rogue, etc.
It's a very clean store, and they have warm and cold stock.
This is your single best bet for beer in Jax.

5/18/2006 - FYI - Broudy's newest location, on SR13, just across the bridge, in St. John's County is now open.

For North Florida you can't find a better selection. Believe me I've tried.

Quite a selection of beers both in the bank of coolers and warm on the shelf. Many craft brews, imports, premium, just about whatever you're looking for. Staff is quite friendly and willing to help. The wife and I have picked up Erdinger, Honey Amber Rose, Chimay, Efes, Yuengling, Blue Moon, and a few more. We're always trying something new.

Check it out if you get a chance. By the way, this store seems a bit different than the other Broudy's around Jacksonville. (Bigger and better selection)

Update: 9/3/05 Just attended their 1st annual Beer Fest tasting. Quite a good show, over 70 Beers. Tried the new Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale. There was food but it was not paired as rumor had it. Event was all FREE and they even handed out some good information about food pairings and styles. Brought in a good size crowd.

Situated in a plaza off of A1A at the end of Butler Blvd this place has a number of unusual beers. Turn right off Butler onto A1A and take the first right into the Plaza. Follow that road around and it will be on your right.
La Chouffe, Aventinus, some eastern European beers and (at least last I was there) a decent selection of small micros. They also stocked cases of Bigfoot and Celebration last last winter. Overall a very good selection for the Jacksonville area but just above average for most larger cities. I try and stop in when I am on that end of town.
