Had this one on tap at Pizzeria Paradiso in DC for just 3 bucks during happy hour!

It pours a dark brown chocolaty color. Almost opaque with just a glimmer of light going thru. Head is light brown and very creamy with great retention and lacing.

Smell is kind of faint and reminiscent of dark roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, wood and some booze.

Taste is very strong and straightforward with lots of roasted dark malts, mollasses, some dark fruit (cherries and plums come to mind), coffee, oak and chocolate notes towards the end.
Aftertaste is lasting and has some mild bitter chocolate.

Body is medium to high with lots of carbonation.

Overall a good imperial porter with lots of malt and some complexity to it. The barrel aging is not that apparent but it is still a very good beer. I would definitely have it again specially at this price.

Ordered this multiple times (too many times) at the Speakeasy Brewery last night. Only $3.00 a pint! Following review written from notes.

Served in a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Black body with red-orange edges. A thin, creamy halo sat on top and drug nice lacing all the way down.

Smell: Huge floral bourbon, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, and flowery esters. As the beer warmed, the caramel aroma intensified and chocolate syrup emerged. Bourbon was still the key player though, and it was pretty hard to find the porter in this one.

Taste: Cocoa, chocolate syrup, leafy hops, and bourbon. The porter aspects were much easier to find in the taste than smell, though bourbon still loomed very large. That said, this was fucking addictive.

Mouthfeel: Warm, dry, and a little thin; attributes typical of bourbon barrel-aged ales. A touch bitter and lightly carbonated. Much like a mild spirit with added body.

Drinkability: Addictive. I went back for this beer a few too many times, but damn was hittin' the spot! This is a must try for bourbon lovers.

Reviewed on 10/11/2009. Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, sweet roasted malt. Flavor of roasted malt, sweet malt, lactose. Only a slight bourbon presence, if at all. Overall, this is a decent imperial porter and rather drinkable for a 10% abv.

So happy about this one, one of the best I have had in quite a long time I have to admit. Served chilled in chalice, this one was enjoyed on 12/04/2009.

On tap at the Blind Tiger, what more could I ask for? I saw this one on the menu and I had to have it. Came to me and looked great with a deep, dark brown pour and a huge, billowing light tan head that just hung on the rail of the glass. Rich, dark aroma of wood and peat, hints of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon all swirling around at once, just what I needed for lunch, lol. Warming only brings out more of the rich vanilla and toffee like notes and then I take a sip, its over. Huge woody, oak like aroma just dominates the flavor here. Enormous showing of vanilla, hints of caramelized sugar, and a touch of smoke, just wonderful melded together and an al out assault on the senses. Rich, filling and extremely complex, one of the better BA offerings I have had in a long time. I cannot believe this does not get more attention, wonderfully pulled off with a deep, rich smoky finish, I would love to have this one again someday.

Pours a deep dark brown cola like color with a rather small tan head that settled into a light ring. The aroma is of caramel and vanilla, milk chocolate and wood. The chocolate and vanilla stand out the most. Whoa, big flavor here. The barrel aging flavor hits right away. Nice wood and vanilla flavors; milk chocolate, dark fruit, fusel alcohol and roasted malt round out the flavor profile. The feel is on the thick side for a porter but with good carbonation that cuts through the malt; the brew is a sticky and there is noticable alcohol belly burn. This is an excellent sipp'n porter. Real nice barrel flavor, along with the traditional porter flavors.

Appearance: Deep and Dark mohagundy with no head.

Smell: Roasted coffee and malts.

Taste: Opens malty. Roasted coffee, earthiness and dark fruit come in from the middle to the end leaving my palate with a hoppy and malty aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and somewhat coarse.

Drinkability: I would definitely have this again and very enjoyable.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ

A: Very dark with a thick tan head on it. Looks like a stout to be honest...

S: Excellent. Coffee notes came through big with bourbon in the back seat

T: This tasted excellent. The chocolate and coffee were able to stand out without the bourbon being over the top. I would drink more than one of these for sure

M: I thought it had a good mouthfeel for a porter. I tend to find porters to be too thin and carbonated. This one held weight.

D: Could have had another for sure... If I was not driving and had time to sip

RBSG09 on tap at the brewery. Pours very dark brown with mahogany highlights. Small cocoa-colored head. Sweet chocolate aroma with a light oaky coconut bourbon note. Good balance but the smell overall is a little muted. Flavor is dark and milk chocolate with a hint of coffee. Solid bourbon influence with oak, vanilla, coconut. Lightly bitter finish, nice and dry.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ.

Pours black with a rich tan head. Nice and thick foam with lots of retention, though a bit lighter than I expected from this barrel-aged treat. Nose is full of chocolate and a nice bite of mixed oak and hops. Somewhat estery. Rich flavors of chocolate and dak fruits mixed with a smooth bite of oak and hops. Definitely not a bourbon bomb, only hints of bourbon and the barrel characteristics integrate smoothly to the base beer. Roasty toasty biscuit finish. This beer is quite thick and smooth and definitely stands up to the barrel flavors. Medium yet subtle carbonation is very nice as well.

I really liked this beer, delicious and the barrel characteristics enhance it without overdoing anything, leaving the finished beer very quaffable. Highly recommended, one of my new favorite porters.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,

A: Pours a very dark brown, nice tan head, good lace.

S: Not really bourbonesque, more straight whiskey with a note of rye. Coffee there as well.

T: Barrel aging is minor flavour with an interesting sweet mocha note. Ample roasted malt and dark chocolate per the style are there too.

M: Too thin at times, I thought it needed more body, medium-bodied, smooth, oily.

D: A solid barrel aged beer, I thought the barrel should show itself a little more. Quite drinkable for its weight.

On draft at a local pub, they were featuring 6 Speakeasy brews, and this one sounded very interesting. I talked to a rep, and he said this one was pushing 10% ABV.

Pours a deep dark black color with a nice tan head.

Aromas are of roasted malts, dark coffees, and dark chocolates, a little bitter pine notes as well. Nice nose.

Taste is very nice. Full flavored porter, with only hints of barrel aging. (which works well here) Dark bitter bakers chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, dark toast, and light booze and oak flavors. Finish has a nice crispness from the pine like hops, and a hint of warmth from the alcohol.

Mouthfeel is nice and full without being too heavy.

Drinkability is quite good. Probably the best Speakeasy brew I have had. Nice full flavors, without being too heavy or strong. This didn't drink like a 10% beer, it went down really easy. This is a very well done beer and highly recommended.
