Style | ABV
Euro Strong Lager |  8.70% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (75), on-tap (8)

Notes:
This golden-blond extra strong beer, with added fresh noble hop flowers during maturation of at least 10 weeks, is a unique beer, bottom fermented, unfiltered, and unpasteurized. Nobel refers to the varieties of noble hop species, selected because of their quality, which traditionally are low in bitterness and high in aroma.

With 8.7% ABV, an attractive bitterness, a very pleasant hoppy Spalt, Saaz, or Golding aroma, and a slightly sweetish alcoholic aftertaste, we created a beer in a class of its own until the last swig.

Pours a hazy pale gold colour, soapy white head and no lace to speak of. Smells of malt and not really much else, faint alcohol, some dry hops are noticeable, it is clean smelling but nothing special. Taste is malty, grassy, dry-leafy hops, finishes dry with earthy tones. Solid weight and mouthfeel, crisp with OK carbonation. ABV in this isn't noticeable and drinks pretty good but I probably will save the 3 bucks next time and pass on this one.

A very odd beer. Pours a cloudy light brown with very little head. The smell is funky and raw, kind of musty. The taste is of something that's been sitting in a basement for 50 years or so, all decayed malt with some hints of hop shine long gone - but for all that, kind of interesting. The carbonation is all but gone, but it's lighter in the mouth than I'd expected. Again, an odd beer, but one that'd suit those who like old oddities.

This was a bottle I picked up a while back, though never got around to enjoying it.

A - Pours a hazy copper orange, thin layer of head with no retention.

S - Sweet apple cider, very vineous with hint of sour grapes, wheat notes and some off scented cloves.

T - Much like the scent with the sour cider notes dominating, the grassy dry hop notes come through very earthy and leafy. There's definitely a sweet ABV kick, so that certainly didn't mellow over time.

M - Medium bodied, though a tad prickly and rather dry on the finish.

O - Not overly enjoyable, though not terrible. I certainly wouldn't buy it again. I suspect the fact that this was an older bottle might have skewed the review a bit, but it was rather disappointing.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass to a murky dark yellow/amber colour with a good finger of frothy white head.

All round dryed hop aroma, very fresh with a little mint in the nose and grass/straw lurking in the background. If you sniff hard with your nose to the beer you really get an alcohol whiff!

Taste wise - zesty citrus hoppy taste with relatively strong alcohol flavour in the aftertaste also slightly peppery in the aftertaste!

Quite a lot of carbonation going on with a medium body to this beer in terms of mouthfeel. Head subsided to a small ocean of a covering whilst drinking and a little lacing around the edge of the glass.

Overall an OK beer, but not one I'd revisit given the choice over others.

The alcohol flavour is too pronounced for me and not balanced enough.

However . . . If I was in a small Dutch village for the night I could get merrily drunk on this beer!

I had this at Tj's Restaurant and Drinkery -served chilled on tap.

The color is a lightly hazed very golden w/ quick dropping light cap with tiny bead. The smell is strong with floral/lemony smell with lots of tangy esters from the nobel hops which give some tea-like aromas. The feel is very zingy with tangy tinge and mild sweetness with mild alcohol and slight bitterness w/moderately high carbonation and mild astringent and dry finish.

There is a nice flavor generated by the hops with a tea-like herbal and lemony taste. The malt is slightly toasty with gentle sweetish tinge which is characteristic of the pilsner malt with light bitter taste in the finish and very mild taste of alcohol. The drinkability is very high for the style -like an Imperial pils with smooth body and nice crrisp presence it is easy to drink for the amount of alcohol it contains and I would definitely order it again.

A: Pours murky orange with a large a bit fluffy white head that sinks into pretty nice lacings.

S: Some hops, bitter and balanced maltyness. Where are the almonds and marzipan ;-) This doesn't smell anything like other cheaper Strong Lagers I've had before...

T: The marzipan came in the taste... Strong bitter hops and sweet breadyness from the malt. Not very balanced. Kind of agressive.

M: Long almondy sweet syrupy aftertaste. Body is full while carbonation medium.

O: It started off very interesting, but then turned as boring as most Euro Strong Lagers.

This brew poured out as a hazy looking golden color with a some sediment floating around in there. The head was fluffy and white, once it settled the lacing stuck to the glass fairly well. The smell of the beer was hoppy, full of Nobel aromas. The taste of the beer wasn't the greatest but it was hoppy but still very earthy. The mouthfeel of this beer was on the heavier side which was interesting. Overall I think this beer is a little bit better than most typicval Euro Strong Lagers, however I don't see myself having to buy it again.

Think I might’ve gotten a bum one here. I let this warm a bit out of the fridge. Poured with a decent foamy, frothy off white head that was short lived, some yeast sediment, and no lace. Color is a cloudy amber brown. Aroma is yeast, raisins, other fruit, malt. Flavor is like now but big raisin sweetness countering the tartness and yeast bitterness. No hop noticable anywhere. Body was full and thick with ok carbonation. Finish is like flavor and longish. Would like to try a good one.

On tap at Midtown Eats

Nice, thick white head atop a hazy golden body.

Light, balanced fragrance I would expect from this style of beer.

Taste was marvelous. Pilsner malt sweetness is most present, moderate hop backbone. Alcohol is present as well, but only serves to augment the flavor. It goes down SMOOTH and clean. Almost creamy feel.

This beer is fantastic. I want to go back to the restaurant right now just to get another one. I just got back from that place.

Currently the #1 Euro Strong Lager on Beer Advocate. Thanks to yourefragile for picking this up somewhere in Maryland for me. Served in a Mikasa tulip.

Popping the top yields a bit of a hiss, after I finally got the rubber up, as it was quite stuck on the lip of the bottle. Pour initially yields a few bubbles and no real head. Bit of a galaxy swirl on top of the brew as well as a thin collar. Dark peach body is translucent.

Nose brings forward a lot of pilsener malt plus a bit of herbal and floral hops. There's a slight fruitiness in the nose that becomes more apparent in the flavor. Fairly hoppy with a bit of bitterness, though the main character is a strong pilsner-malt sweetness. To the beer's credit, there's no noticeable alcohol. However, the sweetness and fruits don't really fit. Quite bready and a bit chewy.

Body is medium without noticeable levels of alcohol. Light carbonation. Full and chewy; not at all crisp. Some light bitterness in the finish, though the hoppy character is mostly in the nose, as a result of the dry hopping, I'm sure.

Decent enough, but not something I'd ever want to drink again.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish orange in color and poured with a thin off white head that gradually faded away leaving a thin ring of bubbles on the surface on the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderate to strong aromas of noble hops in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and has moderately strong flavors of floral hops along with notes of apples. There is a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a light to medium amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is rather easy to drink considering its strength because the alcohol is well masked from the taste.

11.2 oz swing top poured into a tulip.

Color is a murky apple cider like honey brown with a thin bubbly white head Quickly settles to a bubbly crown and spotty film with some legs and some specks of lacing.

Aroma is sweet and floral. Brown sugar, ripe fruit, slight glue and floral hoppiness. Off putting at first, but grows more pleasant as it warms.

Flavor is much less sweet. Smooth bitterness persists from start to finish and light, dry herbal and malt flavors emerge in the finish. Body is lighter side of medium with soft carbonation and a slightly watery finish. Very subtle taste of alcohol in the body but little in the finish.

No reference point for this style, but I bizarrely enjoyed this much more than expected.

Poured from a 33cl bottle into a chalice.

A - Pale golden colour, slightly murky. Decent head on top.

S - Sweet crisp hops with some wheat and a hint of malt & herbs.

T- Mildly bitter at first. Very bitey/tangy on the palate with plenty of spices. Quite dry as well - definitely a lager. Some other herbal tastes coming through late, most notably some aniseed.

M - Aftertaste is sweet by comparison. Nice level of carbonation without being overpowering.

O - Interesting taste, a little too dry for my liking. The herbal flavours start creeping in as the beer warms. Nice to try but the bitterness would put me off drinking any more of these.
