Poured from bottle into a chalice glass
Appearance – The beer is poured a light brown color with a bit of an orange-amber hue. Upon pouring there is only a tiny white head which fades rather rapidly to leave only a trace level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of dark fruits and malt with the dark fruit being mainly of a plum smell, but mixed with some raisin and fig. The malty aromas are a mix of caramel malt as well as a more bready smell. Rounding the nose out are notes of a yeasty smell mixed with spice of coriander and a strong boozy smell.
Taste – The taste begins big in of a dark fruit sweetness of raisin and a bit of plum backed by some slightly bready maltiness. The fruit flavors from the start have a strong spiced and almost rum soaked flavor. Some other sweeter flavors of caramel meet the tongue soon after the initial taste with a yeasty taste joining as well. Lighter notes of banana seem to permeate their way to the tongue later in the taste along with more strong boozy tastes. The mainly spiced raisin alcohol taste takes the taste to its end where it leaves a nice warming fruity and boozy flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to lower side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is on the average side but seems to end on the low side at the end of a taste. This when mixed with the medium body make it a smooth feel on the tongue but due to the slight lower body a better overall feel may have been created via a thicker body.
Overall- A rather tasty beer no doubt. It has big flavors of spiced rummy raisins but is complemented well by a variety of other nice flavors, which all meld together quite well. A nice sipping quad.

A: Pours a slightly hazy dark amber. Almost brown. Head dissipates quickly, leaving a ring of off-white bubbles around the glass.
S: Lots of esters jumping out of the glass; plums, raspberries, over-ripe red grapes, cinnamon apples. Big notes of honey, Belgian yeast and candy sugar with a moderate phenolic bite.
T: Malt forward with lots of fruit flavors; red apples, plums, red grapes. Rather sweet; lots of residual sugars present. Moderate to heavy presence of ethanol in the finish; very warming.
M: Light to medium bodied with mild carbonation. Slick and rather thin.
O: Several of the appropriate quadruple characteristics are here: red fruit esters, candy sugar, very mild bitterness. However, the beer could use a richer malt complexity, more balance, and a fuller mouth-feel.

This poured out as a light brown color with some orange hues. There is hardly any head on this beer. There is a thin ring of retention on top with no lacing. The smell of the beer is sweet, some bread, caramel aromas and some candi sugar. The taste of the beer is also pretty sweet but seems a little one dimensional. There isn't much depth to the flavors in this. The mouthfeel should be a little heavier with a higher carbonation and less watery. Overall it's a sub-par Quad. I was excited to try it because it's a personal favorite style of mine but was a little let down by this attempt. Better luck in the future.

A: The beer is slightly hazy reddish brown in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation along with some yeast particles visible near the bottom of the glass. It poured with a thin off white head that quickly died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose—plums seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and bits of sweetness that linger through the finish.
M: If feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: You can definitely tell that this is a strong beer given its sweetness; there are some hints of alcohol in the overall taste.

A - Pours with one finger of off white foam on top of a clear, amber-brown body. The head settles quickly and leaves little lace.
S - Dark sugar, some muddy fruit and a bit of a rubbery solvent note.
T - Lots of sugary malt up front with some toffee notes. More of that odd, rubbery note in the middle and a finish of cherrys, light roast, and bandaids.
M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a sweet finish.
D - Awful. This has a solvent, rubbery, bandaid yeast character that dominates everything else. Even if that wasn't enough to make it a drain pour (and it totally is) it has a muddy, flabby malt character that wouldn't make for a great beer anyway. A real disappointment.

A nice incarnation of the classic style. Poured into a Chimay goblet, and despite the long ride home displayed beautifully clear ruby and mahogany hues. Moderate tan head, receding into a thin remaining layer with scattered bits of lace left on the walls of the glass. Aromas of fig, plum, cognac and finishing with hints of bitter chocolate. The first sip yields typical abbey style quad flavors which become more elaborate as the beer warms. It begins with dried fruit, sweet and reminiscent of raisin, fig and apricot, with an apparent hop bitterness and hints of green apple and white grape. The piney, resinous flavors contributed by the hops are briskly swept away by the rich flavors of eastern European malts and dark candi sugar finishing with a lingering sweetness. Body is silky smooth yet dry throughout, very nice going down.
Overall i wouldn't rate this beer as a milestone quad, but it is most definitely one worth trying. A few modern twists blended with a well crafted base mark this beer as distinct among the giants of the style.

A: Poured from a bottle to a goblet. Had a copper color and a clear texture. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not a whole lot of lacing here.
S: A decent, but not spectacular aroma of yeast, malt, and assorted fruits.
T: Tasted of Belgian yeast, malt, and the aforementioned fruits - mainly apple, peach, and pear. Not bad flavor, but it just wasn't strong enough. It's simply too thin (especially in the finish) to be effective.
M: An average amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This is one of those above average beers that you'll immediately forget about the next day. Could have been better.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark, slightly hazy mahogany amber with a thin fine offf-white head the dissipates to a thin persistent film and light lacing. Aroma of fresh stone fruit, Belgian yeast, sweet malt and a bit of alcohol. Flavor follows, with peach, plum and light apple, estery; Belgian yeast, caramel malt; light hops in the finish. A nice complex, sweet, flavorful quad. The alcohol evident in the aroma was well covered in the flavor. Medium bodied. I enjoyed this quite a bit. This will be a definite repeat.

On tap at international tap house chesterfield. served in St. Bernardus goblet.
A slightly hoppy quad. I wish I had a bottle if this to age as I can tell that it will improve significantly. If you see this I recommend grabbing it. As it warms up you get the traditional fruity Belgium characteristics in taste and smell, fruit, fig etc. estery but in a good way. As it warms more of the bitter hops come through, they are earthy and piny.

This is another beer that was served at the Stillwater event at Max's the other day. It was listed as a Stillwater beer, and so I assumed was brewed under contract by Brian S. from Stillwater.
The beer pours a reddish brown color with fairly decent head retention and light lacing. Don't get a lot on the nose initially, just some light rootbeer and vanilla, with maybe a hint of citrus and underlying spice. On the palate, this beer is pretty sweet and malty, with an intriguing comabination of tropical fruit, light rootbeer, vanilla and a hint of licorice. The finish is spice filled and a bit boozy, and you can tell the alcohol is up there in this one. On the other hand, the beer isn't hot, heavy or tiring on the palate, though there's something of a buttery flavor and consistency to this beer that is a bit odd.
An interesting beer, though not one I can imagine ever drinking a whole lot of. Thank God for sample size portions at Max's.
