This is a funky decieving brew. In my honest opinion it tastes less like an imperial stout and more like a brown ale.
For a brew with an ABV of 10% you can hardly tell. It has a smooth round yeasty bittery taste and a root beer brown/black appearance with solid lacing. If you're judging this as a stout than I understand it will be a let down, but if you're rating it simply as a beer (no more no less) it's quite nice. Still, I'm not sure how to properly approach this brew, only a detective can really crack this crime scene.

A: Not quite black, but very dark brown with a garnet hue. Thick, light khaki colored head that dissapated relatively quickly.
S: Sweet and sugary, Belgian yeasty, slight roast, no real smoke.
T: Sweet up from to bitter roasted malts, followed by a faint, lingering smokiness. Hot on the backend, but not bad for 10%.
M: Medium + body. Smooth and creamy.
O: Not a bad brew, but not a masterpiece either. Taste seemed to take a dive towards the end of the glass. I would drink again, but not sure if I would search high and low for it.

A: Pours a very, very dark brown (almost black) with a frothy off-white head. Moderate lacing
S: Sweet malts, plums, lightly phenolic. Rather fruity. No smoke.
T: Rich roasted malts up front, with prominent esters; plums, ripe red grapes. Long, sweet finish with a moderate amount of alcohol warming.
M: Medium bodied and creamy.
O: A flavorful imperial stout with a lot of fruity esters which are somewhat overpowering. No smoke detected in the nose or on the palate.

Looking closely at the label, I notice the subtle little outlines of what appear to be smoking apparati - bongs, hookahs, haspipes - incorporated subversively into the pattern. Ha!
Poured into a stemmed tulip: Black body with ruby highlights around the edges under a finger of loose mocha head that could only be described as "Belgian-y". Drops to a thick coating.
Smells of sharp dark fruits: plum skin, raisins soaked in vodka, kind of papery & oxidized, which is strange as I'm assuming this isn't that old, subtle smoke.
Taste is similar, with the same dark fruit notes, a moderate charred taste, & a biting alcohol. Same kind of paper thing going on, sort of husky & hay-like. A lot of these I find in obscure Belgian imports - dark fruit, sharp alcohol, rough around the edges. A little dark chocolate in the late aftertaste, but like chocolate-covered blueberries or something. A little dry red wine, tannic.
Medium-full-bodied, pretty well carbonated, sort of a soft body but with some harsh, acrid feel around the edges.
Didn't think this would've had enough time to get mishandled, but it seems oxidized & maybe just not real mature to begin with. Another of the numerous Belgian-style stouts I'm not into, & the "smoke" comes across as just burnt. Some good fruitiness & I can't say the oxidation completely hurt it, but didn't live up to my expectations of how cool I thought this was going to be.

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. A half finger light brown head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark and light estery fruit, toasted malt, light licorice and chocolate. Flavor follows with very nice dark dried, stone and light fruit well integrated with toasted malt, hints of licorice and wood. Sadly very little smokiness. Medium bodied. I would have hoped from some charred gunpowder from a Smoking Gun, but am still very pleased with the interesting flavors in this. Well balanced and well covered ABV. I hope I can find another bottle of this, I will buy it again in a heart beat.

A: The beer is jet black in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation near the edges of the glass. It poured with a half finger high light beige head that slowly died down and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a large collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of dark fruits in the nose along with some hints of licorice.
T: Flavors of dark fruits, dark malts and a bit of sweetness are present in the taste, which also has some subtle hints of smoke in the finish (these become a bit stronger as the beer fully warms up).
M: It feels a bit higher than medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: While this beer has a high alcohol content, it's not too difficult to drink because the alcohol is relatively well masked from the taste. It seems to resemble more of a Belgian Strong Dark Ale or a quadruple instead of a stout.

Pours a black color. 1/4 inch head of an off-tan color. Decent retention and good lacing. Smells of alcohol, roasted malt, sweet malt, smoke, and a hint of syrup. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, roasted malt, hops, alcohol, hint of pine, and slight smoke. Overall, good aroma, feel, body, and blend.
