Beer bottle (33 cl.) purchased from Le souffleur de Bières, tasted in 2012.
Appearance : golden color, with white foamy head.
Smell : yeasty and malty aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : malty and fruity flavors, with alcohol and dry yeasty finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Quadrupel.

A: Pours murky orange with lots of sediment. The medium large white head is kind of compact and sinks into decent lacings.
S: Yeasty and slightly spicy. Loads of green, but also red apples. Citric. Sweet. Not very complex.
T: Malt and some hops, but fruit is more dominant; citrus and apples. Rather rich alcoholic taste. Sour.
M: Sour and bitter aftertaste. Body is medium as well is the carbonation. Rather strong influence by the high ABV.
O: This was the strangest Quad ever - I would have guessed Belgian Strong Pale Ale... Where are the dried dark fruits?

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 12-2012, poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru badged stemmed tulip glass.
I left a few centimeters of beer in the bottle to ensure I got the true colours and tastes before pouring the reminder into my glass once I'd consummed the first pour.
Pale amber in colour, wispy white covering on top, no real head because of my cautious initial pour. I got a better covering when I emptied the sediment remains and the rest of the bottle into my glass later.
Yeasty aroma, some spices appear to be in there too. An apple feel also arrives as the beer settles in the glass.
The mouthfeel is spritzy and sharp, the taste an alcoholic blend of citrusy hops, sweet, yet light molasses and mixed herbs. Another sweet ingrediant appears as the beer warms, which begins to turn the beer from interesting to unbalanced.
I can't claim to be an expert on quads, but this isn't my idea of this style, pleasant enough but lacks body and depth for the alcohol content. I prefer the sweeter beers to the extra dry hoppy ones, but this is just too much for me in the sweet stakes. Having said that, once I'd poured the sediment and remainer of the beer into my glass it wasn't such a sweet drink anymore: so perhaps the whole bottle should have gone in from the start.

Bottle at Delirium after asking for a good Quad. A Quad it was not. From notes.
A - Poured with a 2.5 finger thick white head. Dark orange body with yeast chunks and good retention and good lacing.
S - Really powerful nose of zestiness, yeast, spritsiness, and grassiness.
T - Hop is quite present with zestiness, sprits, orange, and sweet notes. Fairly hoppy too.
M - Medium body with emdium carbonation. Bitter, zesty finish.
O/D - Nice. Definately a Tripel or a Strong Blonde but not a Quad. Nice taste going on with strong yeast and other flavours melded in.

A strong blonde ale.
Such a pale yellow, straw color, but attractive. Pours a coarse foam at first, but nice carbonation lingers to spritz up the powerful tastes. Kind of a dull thump of a beer, but enlivened by spicy and hard to identify flavors. Definitely a canned fruit cocktail fruitiness, but quite pleasant. There may be hops, but very subdued.
Main impression is a strong alcohol and white wine taste with some Champagne carbonation and a pleasing, fruit salad aftertaste. Truly wierd, and personally I like the darker quads better. I'd call this one an ultra-strong golden ale rather than a "quattro."

Quad from the wide range of brews from Scheldebrouwerij.
Orange golden, clear with floaty bits, good carbonation, great lacing in the glass.
First smell is mediteranian fruits. Apricots, dates, figs. Then some nice mild hops. Also some malts and yeast, but it's mellow.
Taste is malty and hoppy, with some fruit lines and caramel. It's got a decent balance between bitter and sweet, with clear alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel is medium, with a distinct alcohol bite, that's not too bad, but a little dominant.
All in all, quite ok, especially the look and smell.

Pours a very slightly clouded orange gold. Nose is nothing. Like a wisp of air that happened to blow over a beer within the past 5 hours. Flavor is nice enough. Smooth and sweet, though still kind of boozy, even though it's only coming in at 9.5%. It's nice and bring a decent combo of complexities, but it doesn't strike me as particularly quad like.

The new beer from the scheldebrouwerij, recently introduced. Had this one in the Vlaamsche Reus in Wageningen. Poured into an original de Schelde glass. The beer pours a hazy amber color with a very large and long lasting head.
Smell: Sweet caramel malts, yeast, spicy hops, fresh fruits (citrus and pineapple??)
Taste: Sweet caramel again, lots of fruits (apple, citrus), nice malts and yeasts, but also some sourness (cherry??). The sourness becomes stronger in the aftertaste, with some spicy hops. Alcohol, although well present, is not disturbing.
Mouthfeel: Medium-low carbonation, medium-bodied.
Overall: Officially it is a quad (bottle states: Kempense Quattro), but personally I think the style resembles more a tripel / stong-dark Belgium ale. I like the freshness of this beer, although the sourness started to annoy me after some time. Nice to try, one of the best beers of the Scheldebrewery I had until now.
