this beer is not retired. its just not being shipped to the states and actually somewhat easy to find in beer stores in poland.
a lean baltic porter without with a lighter color but just as much balanced consistency. This bottle i had was marked drink by nov 23 of '10. had it by chance... on that day. odd.
color of coca cola with a mild mocha nose that doesn't sit around for long but doesn't completely dissipate awkwardly. nose of toasted malt and subtle coffee and chocolate and a predominant english grapey old porter quality. body of a lager with a undetectable abv. the grape is matched with a smoke sour leathery quality... the beer is lean but mildy caramel. nice palate of sour baltic fruit with a delicate malt back that is broader than expected. still not for most i figure in the american market. very exclusive and inaccessible.
this beer is extremely subtle and balanced and it seems the balance can be very easily shifted. shouldn't be had with anything dense before. would say that it just messes everything up.

Pours a very dark brown, with a glint of reddish highlight. Puffy, dense tan foam rises, and coats the glass. Very robust in appearance. In a weizen glass, the rocky head billows up and above the rim of the glass, sustaining itself in place.
First whiff from the bottle is sweet molasses cookies, cola, with a nutty note. In the glass it takes a little while for more aromas to come out, but it's very pleasant as it warms. Bready, with a hint of dark fruit like figs or plums.
Medium mouthfeel reinforces it's hearty character, but it's not especially heavy. Bready with light astringency, mild sweetness. Dried dark fruit and cola again, fairly subdued. Minor chocolate and roast coffee notes. Lingering char of black patent malt, mixed with grape, maybe a bit of spiced apple in the aftertaste.
Alcohol is fairly well contained, slightly warming after one glass. Easy to finish a bottle, and I was wanting more. Recommended. Also (formerly) known as Ciemne, and imported by J & B Brands, Chicago IL.
