On nitro tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt and cocoa covered coffee beans. Taste is much the same with cocoa and coffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a great smell and tasty flavors but the nitro presentation diminishes the mouthfeel for me.

Suavecito – Imperial Coffee Milk Stout
8% ABV - 10oz pour
On Nitro – Port Carlsbad
01/12/13
How could I resist this one?
A: Dark blackish body with a coffee like edge and the smoothest oatmeal colored cream lid that Nitro can provide. Looks a bit thin upon closer examination with not much by way of cascading bubble effect. Still nice and plenty inviting with that lush cream cap. Glass remains relatively clean with some minor dots of stick.
S: Leads with gourmet coffee house aromas and some sweetened condensed chocolates. Not the java onslaught like in their Coffee Monster Porter but does have that same quality and character of coffee present. Dark toasted grains/cereals lay underneath. Smells like a nice little treat.
T: Tastes like liquid cocoa puffs with an accentuated coffee note. Chocolates are even more expressive in the flavor with some toasted cereals and a nice candy malt ball sweetness. Coffee is fresh and vibrant but again this doesn’t beat you over the head with pure coffee flavor. Nice in that regard that it is more of a complementary note. There is a relatively low amount of bitterness to the beer with alcohol incredibly well masked. Good balanced flavors overall.
M: Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and creamy on account of the nitrogen delivery. Body is a bit weak however. Very thin for an Imperial. Light and watery all the way through the finish. Clean in the end but probably the biggest disappointment of the beer despite the Nitro efforts.
D: A great breakfast beer or even better after dinner treat. Rich with coffee and chocolates. A bit weak in body though. I thought for a moment this might just be a screwed up Coffee Monster they tried to salvage on Nitro? The additional lactose sweetness here has me thinking that is not the case.
Nice flavors and balance overall with the 8% ABV nowhere to be found.
