On Tap
Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA
Dark amber with an off-white head that leaves the glass messy and sticky with lace.
A pine and grapefruit-forward hoppy aroma. Simple, but bright and pleasant.
More bready than hoppy in regards to flavor, but the pine and grapefruit notes are present as well again. Moderately bitter per the style.
Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Crisp and incredibly drinkable.
A delicious amber.

Part of a flight sampled at the Ocean Beach PP on 12/31/11. Review from notes.
Appearance: Not really amber, more gold.
Aroma: Not a huge nose on this. Biscuit malts some notes of piney hops. Peppery?
Taste: Notes of biscuit, grass, mint, and a very slight roasted nut quality. Nothing dominates, all flavors play well together. Unique.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: Light bodied which allows flavors to be loose. Very easy to drink.
Overall: Unique brew. Not a hop bomb like many Port brews, but it is pretty unique and tasty.

Poured on tap into pint glass. Clear, amber in color, a finger a white head that doesn't linger very long. Awesome spider web-like lacing that clings onto the glass very well. Nose is light malt, caramel, hoppy. Piney hops, but not overly aromatic. Taste is typical of an amber ale. Bready, caramel, malt, the hopping adds a nice piney, crisp end. Mouthfeel is ok, pretty carbonated. Overall, a nice beverage to wash down a lunch.

On-tap at Beachwood Brewing
Pours amber in color with a finger of white head. Smells moderately hoppy. Not as citrusy as I had hoped, though. A bit piney and resinous, maybe grassy. Sweet caramel and bready malts are also plentiful. Flavor is moderately bitter and somewhat citric. Grassy and piney hops along with quite a bit of sweet caramel and toffee malt. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

On tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach. A Fresh Hop Amber Ale with Citra.
A: Dark amber with a finger of white foam. Nice color and clarity,
S: Bright tangerine and grapefruit with some orange and grass. Hops are aromatic and fresh with notes of biscuity malt.
T: Orange and tangerine flesh with a little grapefruit. Malt is biscuity and succeeds in balancing the hop profile. More grapefruit is evident in the smooth biscuit finish.
M: Medium in body with upper moderate carbonation.
Overall: A good fresh hop Amber Ale. Highly drinkable with nice hop flavor.
