A Chinook fresh hop Pale Ale on tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach. Tulip.
A: A lovely dark orange with great clarity. The head is white and creamy with very good retention. Sheets of lacing are left on the glass when the head recedes.
A: Pine is dank, resinous, and aromatic. A swirl of the glass enlivens vibrant citrus notes of apricot, tangerine, orange, and grapefruit. Floral notes are light, and no alcohol is evident.
T: The beer opens with a firm moderate bitterness that's smooth and pleasant rather than harsh and astringent. There's a good deal of citrus midpalate, accompanying grassy notes: tangerine, orange, and grapefruit. It's composed mainly of flesh, but there are the drier rind and pith notes that I've come to expect from a hoppy beer from Pizza Port. I'm not picking up any flavor from the malt, not much sweetness either. The finish is bitter and dry with lots of pine resin and grapefruit.
M: Lower medium in body with upper medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is dry, sticky, and crisp.
Overall: Another great hoppy beer from Yiga at Port OB. Recommended.
Serving type: on-tap
