Ordered a half pint of this at Pizza Port Solana Beach earlier this afternoon. Paired with a Pizza Solana.
Appearance: Crystal clear, golden-amber body amber body with a creamy, white crown on top. Nice head retention and stringy lacing. Light carbonation can be spotted within.
Smell: Candied apple glaze and watermelon Jolly Ranchers were the first aromas that came to mind. That said, this aroma wasn't cloyingly sweet. Those aromas continued to dominate throughout the session, resulting in an interesting, and certainly atypical, experience.
Taste: Seemed very malt-forward and bready at first, but this was likely because I had just finished a Chinooky Pale Ale (a hop-forward pale ale). Hop notes started appearing midway through, lending notes of melon, lime, peach, and grass. Light-to-medium bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with ultra-fine carbonation and mild, lingering bitterness. Occasionally prickly. This became more and more drinkable throughout the session, as the finish seemingly grew softer and more bitter at the same time - strange.
Overall: This might be better in larger doses, but I wasn't overly thrilled with just my half pint. Still good, but give one of the other beers a shot first.
Serving type: on-tap
