A: A hazy pale almost orange yellow body with a two finger off white head.

S: Very potent aroma. Pine, floral, bitter, and grapefruit notes dominate the nose. There is some caramel there but this one is all hops.

T: This is a hop bomb. Intense bitterness with citrus, grapefruit, and pine flavors. Again, there is some caramel trying to come forward but the hops overpower everything else. Very (and probably intentionally) unbalanced.

M: Nice heavy body with sharp carbonation.

O: I f you like unbalanced hop bombs this is one you will enjoy, if not I would avoid.

A: Murky autumn orange color shows an impressive 3 finger pitted foam ivory monster atop that sits oh so stubbonly. Good sign of micro-effervesce within. Thick clarity, chunky loads of foam stick well to the vessel walls as the head slowly retreats leaving a standing towering centerpiece.

S: Sticky pine and grapefruit wit a moderate to good level of awareness. A hint of dry pineapple is thrown in.

T: The flavor is huge and sticky of resinous hop oils and grapefruit and pine. Small warming of alcohol combines with the dry hops of citrus. High rate of bitterness, good level of flavor, sticky, thick hop bomb that still maintains a good level of balance between bitterness and flavor. Warm oranges, warm dry pineapple rounds things out in the huge sticky hop soup.

M: The mouthful is sticky and thick, loads of resinous hop oils and malts combine with the alcohol to give this a good glow. Slighting this to good is injustice.

O: Overall the abv goes to 10.0 here, the hops go spinal tap to 11. A worthy anniversary hop bomb that is huge and sticky, bitter and delightful.

On Tap at Summits Wayside July 12th. Reviewed from notes.

(Appearance) Body color is a hazy gold orange with a thin white head. Appearance is nice. 4

(Smell) Citrusy hop notes, mostly grapefruit with a hint of spicy hops and malt blend in the back. not quite as potent as they could be. Bitterness is low but aroma is nearly full-on. 4

(Taste) Spicy grapefruit flavor is prominent in the front, malt bill in the back. Balance is nice. Bitterness is medium/high, strong on the finish. Alcohol makes the drink a bit hot. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Mildly crisp on the finish. Alcohol presence is medium/high. Body is light. 3.5

(Overall) A bit hot but flavorful and diverse with a good balance with a nice level of bitterness on a lasting finish. Certainly not groundbreaking but not disappointing either. 3.5

About half a year ago, we welcomed Port brewing to New Jersey. I was really excited since their hoppy beers have a very good reputation.

Poured into a large opening, tulip style glass. It is a darker, hazy orange with a sticky layer of foam on top. I like the lacing that this head leaves behind.

Off the top you get a ton of citrus. I detect a little malt to help balance the beer.

The flavor is pretty good. I get more of the citrus. The bittering is really strong, and I get some imbalance in this.

I thought this was good, but it fell a little below my expectations. I'm going to age another bottle for another four months to see if I can bring a little more mellowness to this beer.

lacing, head, lacing!! this is insane! thick sticky resinous lacing, an opaque orange pour.. smells of pine, grapefruit, honey, grass, caramel. citrus bitterness up front followed by a charred bitterness, hint of spicy bitterness as well. a very well hidden sweet malty backbone is there as well.. damn this is bitter!!
medium body, slight carbonation, creamy and sticky on the lips. feel a bit of alcohol warmth as well.

overall this is an awesomely bitter hop bomb. a bit of a slap in the face with the ridiculous amounts of lacing caused from the resinous hops. love it!

22 oz bottle, part of Amanti Vino's Beer of the Month program. It was bottled on 4/19/12, and poured into my petite Duvel tulip.

Port's 5th Anniversary Double IPA pours an opaque orange, with a bit of sediment left in suspension. The foam shoots up past three fingers in height and threatens to spill out of the glass (though never actually does). Head retention is well above average, and intricate webs of lacing are left in its wake. If not for taking a page from the Heady Topper playbook in terms of clarity/floaties, this would be just about perfect looking. The nose is a little disappointing in terms of potency (or lack thereof). My initial impression was more floral, but as time goes on, some citrusy grapefruit shines through more and more. There's a brief, but noticeable swirl of caramel to open things up. The hop bitterness that flows in next is a bit on the mild side (though not completely missing) for such a big DIPA. My guess is that there's a healthy dose of Centennial in the hop selection, as the usual rough grapefruit flavor I usually get from them is here in full force on the finish. The body is definitely a bit chewy/full for the style, despite an admirably lively carbonation. I had high hopes for Port's Anniversary Imperial IPA up through the gorgeous pour, but other than that it didn't really do much to differentiate itself from the rest of the pack.

22oz into a pint -

A - Pours a deep darker brown color - tons of dirty white head. Appears to be highly carbonated. Breaks down slowly with significant lacing.

S - The citrus bomb of a beer. All west coast hops, leading with a hugely floral citrus flavor, with just a little bit of resin - grassy flavors in the background. This thing must be made of hops.

T - Starts off lightly bitter, stinging the tongue. Light sweetness hits the front of the tongue, including more of the citrus flavors. Mid-stream turns super bitter - biting. Sticks like glue to your tongue, tons of bitter resinous flavors. Really strong.

M - Moderate body, full bodied - just explodes in your mouth (thats what she said) with carbonation and biting acidity.

O/D - A super strong DIPA - everything about this beer is so over the top. I can't imagine drinking any more than one of these. Certainly embodied taking it to the extreme.

On tap at Brewsters in LA

A - slightly hazy deep yellow. One finger of dense head that costs the glass as it recedes.

S - dense piney with a hint of citrus hops. Good smelling, though mild for most DIPA.

T - quite bitter at the front and back. Medium carbonation. Not much on the middle and finishes with the expected hop burn promised upfront. No doubt, here there be alcohol. Doesn't hide the high ABV very well.

M - smooth and fairly expected fullness. Coats nicely though the hop oil builds with each drink.

O - a nice DIPA, but not outstanding. Hops and alcohol could be better integrated and less oily hop after taste. Definitely on the bitter side of the spectrum. Not quite a Hoptimum but tries to be.

22oz bottle poured into a large mug

Pours cloudy orange with a medium tan head, lots of chunky sediment floating around. Smell is sweet citrus and hops.

Taste is a nice balance of sweetness and hops, but not particularly exciting.

Mouthfeel is dry and slightly gritty. Overall, it's a pretty good beer.
