Pours a nearly black opaque with a taupe head. Pizza olives, greasy spoon smoke exhaust, and fresh brewed coffee comprise the nose. Did I just pull on this glass of stout or did I inhale when the mesquite BBQ fire smoke got blown into my face from the shifting breeze? The mouthfeel is thick, wet and slick. Meaty, smoky, coffee flavors. So good. Quite different. I only had so much room in the cooler, so I had to choose the Downtown Johnny Brown 25th Anniversary Cherry Stout for my take home growler. Next time I'm in San Diego, I'll be carting this bad boy home.

Chilled growler into a glass. Thanks, Eric.
A: Pours a clear, maroon body with light tan head that vanishes quickly.
S: Bright, roasted, earthy coffee beans and cocoa powder. largadeer recommended this highly, comparing it to Founders Breakfast Stout -- I can see the similarity, although this lacks the rich grainy character that FBS picks up from its oatmeal content.
T: Rich in coffee -- I've been experimenting with various artisanal coffees outside of beer, and I find this has a good pickup of the rich, nutty, berry-like character I appreciate in some of the better beans. The body is also buoyed with cocoa powder and toasted nuts.
M: Solidly medium-bodied. It seems a bit thin, or maybe I'm drinking too many chewy beers lately. I'm impressed that it hides its ABV so well.
O: This was pretty darn drinkable, though I expected a bit more flavor for the ABV (reportedly >8%).

I had this beer at the CBC festival in Kopenhagen in may this year. Thanks to Johndoo8! Thanks again for this wonderfull brew. We poured this beer illegal on the festival, but hey what the f***! What a success they had. Poured in the CBC snifter.
I did not take too many notes about this beer so i can not tell much about it. Black and tasty is what is coming up when i think back!

Growler to CBC taster
Enjoyed on 11 May 2012
Thanks for this treat Nolan!
A: Deep mocha brown. 1.5 (medium tan) fingernail head on gentle pour.
S: Loads of dark roasted coffee beans up front followed by chocolate. No much else, but that's okay because this beer tastes really good.
T: Very roasty and robust. Follows smell, but the complexity and depth of this beer are thoroughly enjoyable. Loads of chocolate and coffee. Bitterness is rounded out by a touch of vanilla and soft smokiness. Wicked smooth and very tasty.
M: Full bodied with appropriate carbonation. Smooth, thick, and creamy. Superb!
O: A very fun beer to try and I'd love to enjoy this with some proper bacon and eggs brekkie some time. I'm not sure how a breakfast beer could get much better. Well done!
