Poured a caramel amber color with about one finger white head when I got it. Good lacing and good retention on the way down.
Smelled floral hops, citrus hops - grapefruit and tangerine, and some light caramel malts. A nice bitterness on the nose.
Tasted not quite as good. Got some skunky resin hops, citrus hips (light grapefruit and tangerine) and once again a lot if IBU’s. Still some floral hops to it.
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish.
A decent IPA overall, although I may have given it higher ratings than it deserved.

On Tap
Pizza Port
Solana Beach, CA
Clear amber, nearly copper, with a small light khaki colored head that leaves irregular lines of lace down the glass. Pretty.
Mild citrus aroma along with bread and a bit of caramel. This isn't nearly as hop-forward, tropical, and pungent as I'm used to getting from Pizza Port's on tap IPAs.
The flavor is simple, with mild pine and citrus flavors, along with moderate to high bitterness, even for the style. This is simple, drinkable, though somewhat plain and uninteresting. Interestingly, this IPA seems to be a bit old, though it's brewed here so that shouldn't be the case.
Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.
Decent IPA, though Pizza Port makes far better examples of the style.

On tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach served in a pint glass. The beer pours a golden color and really quite translucent. A nice 2 finger whitish head. Good retention and lacing. The aroma is a nice citrus hop tone with fruity orange, tangerine, grapefruit and even a bit of peach character. Some piney notes as well. Perhaps a hint of crystal malt but it might just be in my head as this is very hop forward in aroma. The flavor follows suit with a very hop forward flavor as described in the nose. Medium bitterness. Not much of a malt body to build on. Very dry. Finishes with a dry hop bitter flavor. Crisp. Overall, a nice hoppy beer.

A - Orange/amber colored beer with a white head that had nice retention and some moderate lace.
S - Citrus hops with some floral and grassy nots. Has a nice bit of aroma for under 7%, with the malts coming through fairly well.
T - Slightly bitter and herbal, with some caramel malts shining through. Good, not great, but good.
M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O - Decent beer, not going to set the world on fire, but pleasasntly drinkable.

On tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach in a tulip.
A: Bright and luminous medium gold with nice clarity and a two finger crown of foam.
S: Vibrant citrus nose, with notes of peach, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit flesh. Pine resin is aromatic and blends nicely with the soft citrus. No malt is evident in the nose.
T: Ephemeral sweetness up front fades almost instantly to dryness. Bitterness is moderate with ample hop flavor. Orange, peach, and grapefruit meld with resinous pine and the slightest suggestion of alcohol. Finish is dry and hop flavorful with a trailing bitterness. No real malt influence.
M: Upper light in body with upper moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is sticky, crisp, and dry.
Overall: A really nice light bodied IPA. This would get 4.25s for appearance, smell, taste, and overall if that were an option. Recommended.

On-tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach
A: The pour is amber in color with an emphasis on the orange hues. The head is dense, creamy, and white.
S: Lots of hop aroma right out of the gate with grapefruit, grass, and orange and lemon zest. There's a bit of a bread aroma and as the beer warms up, some hints of tropical fruit.
T: The pine and associated bitterness are immediately noticeable. There's quite a bit of grapefruit and grapefruit rind present, too. The malt is there and gives the beer a solid bread base.
M: Definitely medium in body with a moderate carbonation and a dry, bitter finish.
D: A nice IPA that won't blow your socks off but will give you a pleasurable drinking experience.

Another SDIBF tasting note. Came out a darker auburn and amber. What happened to the hops? None in the nose, or anything else for that matter.
Tastes like a lighter ipa for Port, barely noticeable pine. A light caramel base. Almost the antithesis of their anniversary or hop 15 beers. Stays around in the mouthfeel, which is always nice. What seemed like a lighter ipa evolves into a more sturdy one. Just didn't resonate the first few sips. Port's stuff is always priced nicely, which really helps drinkability.
Edit: much easier to smell the aroma today, 6-25-11. Getting a growler

Had this one on tap at Port in Solana Beach
Poured into a pint glass.
Pours 1/2 finger of off white head. Fades to a thin layer but leaves some nice sticky lace walls. Color is a clear golden sunset.
Aroma: Nice floral hop profile with a high amount of citrus. Caramel and bready malts balance it out a bit. Solid IPA aroma.
Taste: Just like the aroma, but it has more caramel malts to it. Big citrus floral taste. A good amount of grapefruit. Has a bubblegum flavor in the background. Very solid ipa.
Mouthfeel: Bitter, but not over the top bitter. Refreshingly clean. Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Ends sticky, which is expected.
Overall, a solid ipa and very drinkable. Well to the style. Glad I got to try this one. A staple of an ipa.

Clear amber with a fine, light beige cap. Great head retention with tons of lacing. Lots of hop aroma, citrus and grapefruit, but it ended up being sort of plain. Strong bitterness and light on malt flavour. Plenty of citrus and grapefruit, some pith, and a hint of hop spice. Medium to light bodied, dry, with smooth carbonation. A good IPA with lots of hops, well crafted, but a bit one dimensional.

I had mine at Downtown Johnny Browns.
It arrived with only wisps for head but with a stunning clarity in a deep-amber beer. The nose was heavenly! It had a beautiful floral aspect, but muted at the same time. Letting it warm just a bit made it smell like I had rubbed fresh hops in my palms. Oily, floral, even a little fruity. Mouthfeel tended to the thin side, but the slick, oily feeling that I got on the tongue more than made up for it. Finish was beautifully, lingeringly hoppy. Damn! I refuse to move back to the Left Coast, but they have fantastic beer.

First Port offering I've had on tap. 6.90 abv? Really?! Maybe it was my empty stomach, but I was FA-FA-FA-feeling it halfway through. Thought it must have been 7-8 %. The appearance is light for an IPA, not hazy like most of them. The smell and taste combine for a VERY hoppy beer, but combine with the malt and alcohol quite well. The mouthfeel is crisp and drinkability quite good. A heavy IPA bordering on DIPA-land if you ask me. I'm drinking and Alesmith IPA right now and it feels light in hops in comparison.
