poured from a bomber into a snifter. This beer almost glows, very bright and vibrant orange with some yellow hues mixed in. Smell is very citusy with a little bit of pine at the end. Definite smell of citrus rind and peel. It tastes just like it smells, very citrusy with some pine mixed in. The citrus is the prominent front flavor tailling off to a hint of piney resonance. The malt balance is perfect, nicely balanced and barely present. This beer is easy to drink, the mouthfell bounces off the tongue and disperses gently.
I thoroughly enjoyed this beer and will seek it out often.

General - I haven't had this DIPA before but in general I really like the style. This one was a little too cold for my taste straight from the fridge so I'm letting it warm a touch while I write some of this. Poured this from a big boy bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass. While I'm still on the fence about this glass I will say that the etching on the bottom of the glass does create a really nice highway of bubbles the entire time, pretty cool.
Appearance - A touch hazy but nothing to be looked down upon in a DIPA, actually right in line for dry hopping. Color is around a 7 or 8 on the SRM scale, it's actually a touch lighter than I would typically expect in a DIPA. Touch off on the appearance for that. The head is a nice bright white but is very thin and fades pretty quickly.
Aroma - Strong floral aroma with a hit of citrus. There is also a malty background to the scent. A hint of a sourish smell, not bad, but it smells like some sort of citrus fruit a couple of days after it's prime. Kind of disappointing for me but it's not a bad thing.
Taste - Very smooth drinking beer with a bitter hit on the back end that wakes up all the taste buds. Love the taste to this but for a DIPA. There is a nice citrus hit with this for sure. The bitterness is a total DIPA at the back end and I love it! I think that this is one of the most balanced DIPAs that I've had. While it does have a heavy handed hop helping (trying saying that 5x fast), it's not too overpowering. It's in your face for sure but not too much.
Mouthfeel - Very smooth drinking beer for sure, I could definitely have a couple of these sitting out on a nice cool evening. It's got a drying effect that is expected with the 8.5% ABV! Moderate body, maybe on the low end of moderate but still within the style according to BJCP. High level of carbonation and the alcohol warming is prevalent with this bad boy!
Overall - OK, this is a really good DIPA, not the best that I've had (that's still reserved for Pliny) but really good. The hops in this thing will nearly burn off your taste buds with the bitterness on the back end but hey, that's what I drink a DIPA for! This will be added to my rotation when I want something really hop forward. For the summer it's not as refreshing as I would want (especially when the days are hot) but if the weather is a little bit cooler I would be quaffing these guys down!

a: Very orange, bright, hazy with a foamy lasting head from the bottle conditioning. Awesome.
s: some tangerine, a slightly toasty bitter note, some carmel, but mostly orange/tangerine with a sugary smell as well.
t: You get a little bit of that tangerine/orange taste from the smell on the back end, as well as nice bitterness, but not much on the front end.
mf: light carbonation, slightly viscous.
overall, pretty dang good. Nothing really wrong with this one. Very balanced, no alcohol detection, just not the exact flavor profile i'd mostly prefer in a Double IPA, but this is still dang delicious.

Port Brewing Company - Mongo
Got this one from a trade and I was hella excited, resiny hops and West Coast IPA style is a "yes, please" from me.
Look - Pours hazy unfiltered golden with a copper amber hue, massive frothy head. Chunks of sticky lacing. So far, so good.
Smell - Caramel malts are heavy here with resin hops on top. Some pine, some citrus. Rich aroma. Slightly malty.
Taste - Smooth malt with a well balanced, West Coast style introduction to the resiny hops, that creep in from there and sit nicely.
Mouthfeel - Slightly sticky and rests bitter pine in the center. Not boozy, great drinkability. This was the best part of the brew for me, it sat nicely and I loved every minute of it.
Overall - Solid as hell. I love the resin blast here and the malt works well with it as well. 100% recommend. I have read that others said it is a bit one dimensional, well it is, but I like the dimension!
