Bottling date July 2, 2012.
Very nice head even on gentle pour; aggressive pour produces several inches. Cloudy orange-gold that I find appetizing. Aroma is very nice, if typically West Coast IPA, doesn't quite prepare you for how special this brew is. Mouthfeel is perfect balance between crisp and creamy. Taste is very tropical-plus-piney hoppy with a bitter yet smooth aftertaste that makes the back of my tongue sing Hallelujah. It's a bit like Ruination, only brighter, and the hops sail along on top of the background malt like the surfing cat on the label. So glad this is not like one of those DIPA's that's way too malty/syrupy/sweet for my taste (talkin' bout chu Maharaja, Hop Stoopid, etc. etc.). I live in GA, so we lack many highly rated products, but this is one of the two or three best beers I've ever had, and deserves even more love than it has received. Perhaps would receive more if fewer people expected a malty DIPA and just tasted this as an entirely superior IPA. Would give it extra points for being named after a late, beloved brewery cat, but it doesn't need them.

A: Cloudy, burnt orange body. Results in a huge, fizzy, beige colored head that leaves unbelievable lacing and has great retention. The lacing almost covers the glass fully.
S: Pine needles are strong in the waft. Resin. Loads of bitter citrus and hops.
T: Hop forward. Bitter. Grapefruit. Pineapple. Finishes with pine.
M: Full body. Heavy carbonation. Oily.
O: Over the top hop bitterness. A little one-dimensional and not overly complex, but its a pretty good dimension.

A: Burned orange color, clear.
S: Citrus, some tropical fruit, lots of pine resin.
T: Big pine notes with more subtle tropical fruit. Smaller malt profile on this than on the Hop 15.
M: Crisp, clean and nicely carbonated.
O: This was a really decent DIPA. Finishes dry. A pretty good example of a west coast IPA.

What can I say more than: I simply love this beer.
The appearance is a golden orange hue, with a slight haze from the hop and yeast sediment left in the bottle-conditioned beer (detractors call these "floaties"). I will take half a point off, because I do not drink the last 1/4" inch of the yeasty brew.
Smells like citrus, hops, and floral yeast notes. Delicious.
Tastes like mango, orange, with a distinctly hop-forward finished. Not overly bitter, dry and not sweet.
Mouthfeel is INCREDIBLE! Love the bottle-conditioned carbonation levels - nice chewy beer. Mouthfeel may be the number one reason that I love this beer.
Overall, I will always seek out and drink MONGO!
