A: Burned orange color, clear.
S: Citrus, some tropical fruit, lots of pine resin.
T: Big pine notes with more subtle tropical fruit. Smaller malt profile on this than on the Hop 15.
M: Crisp, clean and nicely carbonated.
O: This was a really decent DIPA. Finishes dry. A pretty good example of a west coast IPA.

What can I say more than: I simply love this beer.

The appearance is a golden orange hue, with a slight haze from the hop and yeast sediment left in the bottle-conditioned beer (detractors call these "floaties"). I will take half a point off, because I do not drink the last 1/4" inch of the yeasty brew.

Smells like citrus, hops, and floral yeast notes. Delicious.

Tastes like mango, orange, with a distinctly hop-forward finished. Not overly bitter, dry and not sweet.

Mouthfeel is INCREDIBLE! Love the bottle-conditioned carbonation levels - nice chewy beer. Mouthfeel may be the number one reason that I love this beer.

Overall, I will always seek out and drink MONGO!

Pint from the tap at the Wild Goose in Chicago. Aroma is grapefruit and pineapple. Appearance is a radiant yellow orange, steady bubble freeways flowing up, some foam and lacing. Taste is a juicy, beach fruit cocktail, big hop presence, very easy-going in abv flavor aspects. Palate is light side of medium bodied, and an appropriately assertive level of carbonation. The mouthfeel of the beer matches up nicely with the fresh character of it. Overall, an unexpectedly delicious beer (probably because of where I had it and how I’ve never had anything from Port Brewing). I look forward to trying out more stuff from Port.

A: Hazy orange with large off white head. Retention is great and has a good amount of lacing.

S: Pine needles and sweet caramel.

T: Juicy grapefruit, pineapple, and sweet tangerine. Bitterness is present but very light. Pine comes in about halfway and lingers into the aftertaste.

M: Full bodied with aggressive carbonation.

O: Juicy IPA that has it's bitterness in check. Tasty. I would pick up a 6 pk. if they make them.

Foamy billowy head, like the the ocean tide. In the aroma, mango (and other tropical fruit) stand out over the usual pine and citrus (grapefruit, orange). The bitterness is there, but not as much as expected, and balanced with fruity sweetness. A little alcohol or hop bitterness sting in the finish. Mouthfeel is creamy. Another great Westcoast IPA, similar in flavor profile to Alesmith, albeit with more alcohol and hop bitterness.

Another bottle from BostonRyan, thanks bro. Unknown bottling date. 22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.

a: opaque orange/golden body with a foamy 3 finger head with solid retention and lacing.

s: fruity aroma with citrusy orange, lemon zest, and pine.

t: big hop flavor, bitterness on the finish and it lingers, the malt lends to the body.

m: big and smooth, a tad too much carbonation, but definitely solid.

o: great DIPA, not quite world class but certainly excellent. very drinkable.

Thanks to sil1 for this bottle. Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a TBBC pint glass.

A: Very hazy peach-ish amber to copper, with low visible carbonation and a big just-off-white head.

S: Hops (citrus, pine, tropical fruit), and biscuity sweet malts.

T: Bitter pine and citrus rind hops, grapefruit sweetness, and cracker malts. This is significantly bitter for sure - a big West Coast IPA. Quite tasty. Bitterness in the hang.

M: Heavy body for style, moderate carbonation sensation. The alcohol flavor is well-hidden but this warms you up as you drink more than expected from the ABV.

O: Quite enjoyable, glad I had a chance to try it. Recommended.

On tap at the The Loft on the LMU Campus
A- yellowy gold
S- excellent piny citrusy american hops
T- pretty good hop burst but dries up magnificiently.
You can drink several of these without a typical ipa bitter aftertaste. Definitely beats sout most regular ipa's.
M- smooth thin and dry
O- love it, but not quite top tear ipa

On tap at Uno Pizzeria in Hamilton, NJ. I'm a Southern Californian currently in exile in Jersey, I can't say no to Port (or any other SD beer) when I see them

Pours a beautiful thick, pure orange with a frothy white head. Great retention

Smell- hoppy, citrus, and pine, juicy

Taste- big hops, lots of citrus, juicy orange and some bitter grapefruit, and pine and grassy notes. Then a wave of lush tropical fruit- mango, papaya, etc. nice bready malt lingering underneath with hop resin

Mouthfeel- deliciously creamy, yet with much bite and fine carbonation. Big yet easy drinking

I find Port bottles to be somewhat hit or miss, but when this beer is on, it's one of the bet double IPAs I've had- so many different hop profiles combined (piney/grassy with citrus with tropical), the body/mouthfeel is something uniqueish, and to me had always been a characteristic that makes this brew stand out

Golden orange with huge white foamy head, very sticky, incredible retention, like a dollop of merengue. Smell is oranges and citric with a underlying resin and light malt. Taste mild pine resin, citric pith, very crisp and a nice degree of bitterness washing across the tongue very tasty. Light malt keeps everything clean and refreshing. Medium body holds together well. Mild lingering bitterness. Very easy to drink and excellent flavors. Very good.

Had on draft at Eureka burger in Claremont. Appearance is very light straw with a half in of head the dissipated almost immediately. Nose is true to a double IPA getting a well balanced bouquet. Taste is of orange and grass, and light pine. Finished fairly bitter. Despite the complex nose, the mouthfeel was linear. Still enjoyable and in my opinion the best IIPA on draft, if left more to the imagination. Above average for the IIPA world. Better options out there but still worth a try.

The murky amber pour was topped with a huge head, and as it rose up rapidly, I ended up spilling this a bit. The head stayed around for a while, looking like beige whipped cream topping the liquid. The smell was quite hoppy, despite being masked by the foam. There were aromas of grapefruit, pine, and hay with every sniff. The taste was very much in line with the West Coast roots of the beer. It was bitter from the start, with a grapefruit pith backbone. There were also notes of pine tar, tangerine, and a hint of pepper. This was a hop-head's wet dream realized. The finish was mineral laden and drying. The aftertaste lingered on for quite a long time after each sip. The body felt light and lacked the stickiness found in many other DIPAs. If you are craving some piney hops, this is the beer to get.

Looks like a pretty standard IPA, maybe on the hazy side and almost slightly green. Smells of pine, citrus, tea, grass, slight malt. Taste is primarily pine, tea and grass. This batch was very vegetal, and I've always thought Mongo was very bitter and hot. A decent IPA that I would normally pass over with all the great stuff floating around SD.

Poured into a snifter. Bottleneck says Bottled Sep 6 2012.

A- Pours a light amber color with a massive three finger white head that slowly shrinks to a 1/4 inch head with nice bumpy foam. Thin cobwebs of lacing.

S- Big punch of tropical fruit notes on the nose as the west coast style hop profile does its thing. Notes of papaya, mango and pineapple.

T- Very fruity hop notes with a moderate-heavy bitterness. More balanced than the Wipeout IPA. Grassy, grapefruit. Just enough malt sweetness to round it out.

M- Not too sharp or bitey given the high hop content and high(er) ABV. The medium-high carbonation helps to give just the right amount of prickle. Light-ish body.

O- I can see why this has a better BA rating than the Wipeout. It's just that much better.

A hazy gold color with a thin white colored head. Lots of carbonation visible in the beer.

Sweet malt and pine hops. Very strong and clean on the pine hop aroma.

Initial flavors of toasted malt with a touch of sweetness. The pine hops then kick in and cut through the malt. The end result is a very flavorful yet balanced beer. Smooth flavors that aren't too harsh like other DIPAs.

Full bodied with high carbonation make the beer have a smooth feel to it. There is a lingering bitterness in the finish.

One of the better DIPAs I've had. Definitely on the above average side. A big beer yet very drinkable.

A huge shout out to my friend, Brewer at Conquest Brewing Cola. SC,thanks for the hook up YO!

Huge fluffy white head that STICKS around leaving wonderful lace and legs for days.Awesome pale golden hue that is mostly clear.

Huge citrus piney mango pineapple aromas dominate, with a lite caramel softness barley poking through. Well played west coast style, awesome.

BIG time piney citrus that seems to have a bit of tropical flavor.A faint caramel brings things slightly into balance but not really.

Well played dry west coast type ipa that delivers on the dryness and flavor.

Oh My, this is good chit. Hope to get this in the dirty south again.

Had the pleasure of tasting this at Green's Piney Grove in Columbia, SC

A - Poured in tulip. Golden bronze in color with two+ fingers of fluffy white head. Lots of lacing.

S - Fruity hops, pineapple, mango, lemon, grapefruit, almost like a fruit punch. Some grassy/earthy tones.

T - Bitter, piney, resinous, fruity hops, followed by some sweetness and a bolt of bitter hops. Dry and punchy.

M -Medium bodied, well carbonated and thick, but not too thick. Alcohol is well hidden.

O - This stuff is awesome and can't really compare to much else. It has got to be in the upper register for IBU's but so drinkable it is scary!! Great stuff.

Served on-tap in a 13 oz tulip at Sunset Grill (Boston, MA).

A: Burnished yellow-amber with 1-finger of off-white tightly bubbled head with good retention and craggy lace.

S: Strong blast of Columbus hoppiness with orange and grapefruit citrus combining with medium-level crystal malty sweetness.

T: The Columbus comes on strong in the flavor too with semi-meaty, ganja-like hoppiness but with flashes of grapefruit and orange citrus and a big resinous hops blast in the finish. The maltiness takes a backseat but supports the hops with plenty of heft. Bitterness is moderately high, and grows with warming.

M: Drinkable DIPA for sure with medium body and soft carbonation.

O: I enjoyed this beer but it is definitely best suited for the Columbus lovers.

A very cloudy dark amber colored brew with lots of random chunks of hop goodies rolling around. The head is a volumnous mound of oatmeal colored foam leaving chunky bits of lacing throughout. The aroma offers a tasteful grapefruit/pine blend with oatmeal spicey grain overtones. The flavor brings an unusual grainy hop attack with orange-grapefruit and intensely bitter grass. There's a little pineapple and dusty oak biscuit. This is a bit astringent but the hops settle into a fairly appealing IPA with a solid medium body and fizzy but somewhat viscous feel. Definitely a hoppy option but perhaps would benefit from a touch of malt sweetness. Pretty good though.

thanks to mike for tossing this one my way the other day. enjoyed from my lost abbey teku. bottled 7/19/2012

a - brew poured a murky orange with a generous three fingers plus of foamy ipa head that left massive chunky lacing.

s - nice citric and grapefruit hops with some orange peel. resiny.

t - dank resinous hops. like sucking on a pine cone. very much bitter, not as fruity as the nose suggests, but still quite tasty. as i got over the bitterness the citric grapefruit came out more. really nice classic west coast ipa.

m - bitter and nicely carbonated. medium bodied. a touch of booziness.

o - overall a very nice west coast IIPA. within 3 months of bottle date. i'd like to try this one a bit fresher, but still really nice and tasty beer.

Served this 22 oz. bottle in a Sam Adams glass. No date. The body was a bright copper color with an ivory head. A thick cap left clumpy lacing. The second pour was hazy from yeast.

The smell was soapy and resinous. Wet hay.

The taste was perfectly out of balance. Tropical fruits and big grapefruity hops that reminded me of ruby red grapefruit juice. Tongue ripping, pleasantly astringent hops. Yum. The second pour seemed a little sweeter?

The mouthfeel was medium bodied and carbonated. I would search for this one again!

Bottling date July 2, 2012.

Very nice head even on gentle pour; aggressive pour produces several inches. Cloudy orange-gold that I find appetizing. Aroma is very nice, if typically West Coast IPA, doesn't quite prepare you for how special this brew is. Mouthfeel is perfect balance between crisp and creamy. Taste is very tropical-plus-piney hoppy with a bitter yet smooth aftertaste that makes the back of my tongue sing Hallelujah. It's a bit like Ruination, only brighter, and the hops sail along on top of the background malt like the surfing cat on the label. So glad this is not like one of those DIPA's that's way too malty/syrupy/sweet for my taste (talkin' bout chu Maharaja, Hop Stoopid, etc. etc.). I live in GA, so we lack many highly rated products, but this is one of the two or three best beers I've ever had, and deserves even more love than it has received. Perhaps would receive more if fewer people expected a malty DIPA and just tasted this as an entirely superior IPA. Would give it extra points for being named after a late, beloved brewery cat, but it doesn't need them.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter

Appearance: Light golden hue, tad hazy. Off white head which is retained throughout drinking, looks great.

Smell: Peppery grapefruit. Some grass and slight lemon. Even some alcohol presence.

Taste: Sweet grapefruit bodes well with some toffee malts. Not as peppery tasting as the smell. Very straightforward and delicious.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and creamy.

Overall: Awesome DIPA from Port. First Port brew I've had and I can say that I am going back for some more.

2/3 head to 1/3 liquid initial head. It's very lumpy with a decent amount of lace on the glass. Gold color with a mild chill haze.

Fresh floral hop aroma. If you like this (like I do), you'll find this very inviting.

Starts with an alcohol laced malt base. Lots of Tabasco-like pepper in the swallow--a definite hop bomb. Moderate body with a slightly above normal carbonation. Long, long aftertaste--like sucking a hop pellet.

S - Funky, grassy, fruity hops, pineapple, mango, lemon, grapefruit, almost like a fruit punch.

T - Bitter, sour, piney, fruity hops, followed by sweet, toasty malt.

M - Well carbonated and thick but not too thick. Alcohol is well hidden.
