Finally cracked open my bottle a few weeks back.

Color is a dark ruby with a light tan head.

Flavor profile is a lot of sour and fun. Cherries, oak, and tannin all present. A little bit of spices show (gift of the magi?). Some herbal flavors. Maybe a hint of orange peel. Very wine like. Reminds me of consecration.

Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Definitely a solid beer, but nothing out of this world. I would definitely drink this again.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep brown. Almost black. Excellent head and seeming eternal retention.

Smell - You can still smell the roast malts back there. A little bit of vinegar acidity. Red wine vinous notes. Very nice.

Taste - Nice acidity. Very strong sourness. Dark cherry flavors. Red wine flavors, including astringency. A little bit of that porter comes through, too.

Mouthfeel - Overcarbonated. Nicely sour, almost too sour, but not quite over the edge.

Overall - Who knows what this tasted like fresh, but it tastes pretty damn good still.

On tap @ Bottleworks.

Appearance. Pours a dark brown with a little red, no head.

Smell. Nice sour brown smell, sour cherries, brown sugar, oak and melon.

Taste. Medium lactic sourness, lots of oak, some cherry and light fruits.

Mouthfeel. Medium+ body, virtually flat with just a faint bit of carbonation.

Overall. Nice sour brown but the lack of carbonation was a little disapointing ...I say a little 'cause, well you know, LA ;-)

Pours a dark purplish black color with a huge frothy beige head that very slowly fades into a lasting cap.  Chunks of soapy lace left behind.

Vinous aroma with lots of dark fruit and red wine character.  The barrel character is strong with lots of oak, vanilla and boozy sweetness.  The blend is 66% bourbon barrel but I'm picking up more wine barrel with lots of vinous fruit.  There's also some herbal spice, dark malt and honey sweetness.

Overly carbonated with lots of dry, earthy oak and vinous fruit sweetness.  Strong red wine and dark fruit presence but again, I'm not picking up any bourbon barrel even though it's the majority of the blend.  Hints of grape, dark cherry, plum, currant and other dark berries make the beer very sweet and overpower the malt characteristics of the base beers.   Subtle honey with slightly acrid roasted malt notes once it warms considerably.  Very dry with hints of caramel, toast and dark chocolate.  Decent but one dimensional with too strong of a red wine barrel flavor.

Another bottle I didn't think I'd get to try at the Lost Abbey tasting in DC. Served in a tasting snifter.

Appearance: The beer pours a dark reddish brown color with a half finger of off white head. The bubbles are rather large.

Smell: This is a mild smelling beer. Tart berries along with an herbal component. There is also a very mild sweetness.

Taste: This is a very complex sour ale. Tart berry like sourness with some roasted malt. There is a mild sweetness that reminds me of floral honey. I'm getting some mild herbal notes in the background as well.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with tons of aggressive carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: I wasn't in love with this beer, but it is very complex and interesting. Dark sours don't tend to be my favorite, but I'm glad I got to try this beer.

Huge thanks to Andy for sharing this one. Poured into a chalice. This one pours dark brown with a reddish hue to it. A nice cap of creamy tan head with gobs of stick lace.

Hints of acidic vinegar with hints tart dark fruit with bourbon and oak notes in the background. A bit of an herbal aroma lingers in the background with sweet dark fruits. Sour dark fruits on the pallet with hints of powder cocoa and a bit of a vinous finish. good oak flavors with just a touch of bourbon in the background.

Medium body with sufficient carbonation.

Overall this one is real unique. Lots of great flavors here and a refreshing sour edge.

Thanks to sonicalligator for generously sending this our way! Poured into a chalice. There is a nice thick light tan with red hues head atop a dark brown body.

The aroma has some nice sweet cherry notes here. The raisin sweetness is also nicely detected. The aroma is very vinous.

The taste starts out incredibly sour. The bready malt flavor is surprisely dominant to go with the slight grape and cherry notes that are a part of the tartness. There is a great oakyness to the finish. After more sips the initial tartness is mellowed, and I pick up more malt sweetness, including some of the dark fruit. For better or worse, there is a lot going on here. I like it.

Thank you, Jonathan.

Dark brown with a thin, tan head that hangs around a while, leaving no lacing. The nose is great. Spicy bourbon barrels with rosemary immediately noticeable. Honey lends a sweetness, and there's cherries and raisins here too. Sourness is moderate. The palate opens mildly sweet-tart with raisins, rosemary and some honey. Dark fruit character is noticeable too. Mildly tart with a moderate Brett presence (cloves especially). Drying on the finish with honey and raisins. I enjoyed this.

Courtesy of JAK, who wasn't able to be here at the tasting. A shame, man. but we appreciate the bottle!

A - Very dark brown, bordering on black. Slightly fluffy white head clustered in weird patters in my glass.

S - Dark fruits are really predominant on the nose. Slight acidic and roastiness from there. Very little barrel/bourbon.

T - Really nice blend of flavors on this one. The dark fruits intermingle with some sweet vanilla molasses and moderate tartness.

M - Very good drinkability despite the roastiness and bourbon barrels. Leaves me wanting more.

O - This is a really solid dark sour. This is better than v009 and on par with another beer that doesnt exist. I got on board with this one.

From 04/14/12 notes. Big thanks to Richard for sharing this one at our DC Sour Tasting!

a - Pours a very dark brown color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour dark fruits, tart cherries, oak, fruity malts, light vinegar. Nice sour nose; I really like it.

t - Tastes of very sour cherries and tart dark fruits, vinegar, oak, earthy notes, fruity malts. Taste is way more sour than the nose; a step up for me.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Sour, but pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall I liked this one a lot; I know they are different beers but I liked this much better than the '08 Saison. Would love to have it again.

Bottle shared by GRG1313 at our sour and wild ales tasting on April 14, 2012. Thanks Richard.

The beer appears dark brown with crimson highlights and an off white head that leaves sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma is quite nice, with scents of tart cherries, wild yeast, oak. The flavor brings tart cherries and a pleasant, acetic character. Oak and brettanomyces have a strong presence as well. The feel is medium to full bodied with a long lingering, lip smacking tartness. This had been on my "wants" list for a long time. I'm grateful for the opportunity to try it.

Bottle shared by Richard, THANKS! Beer is dark brown to ruby, hazy with an off white head, some lacing, low retention, moderate carbonation.

Aroma is fruity, tart cherries, lactic, succinic, and mildly acetic, not vinegary.

Finish on the beer is a little roasty, it goes well with the fruitiness and mild Brett funk in the beer. Interesting beer overall and I really like it. I'd have it again for sure.
