This was a solid Imperial Stout, sampled among several at a stout tasting event.
Poured a very ink-like dark black. Not much head, although given the high ABV and the shape of the tasting glass I didn't expect much.
Aroma was not as whiskey-like as I anticipated given the barrel aging. Lots of roasted malt and coffee. some licorice.
Taste was very good as well. My bottle was only a handful of months old, and I think this brew would benefit greatly from being put in the back of the fridge for a year or more to mellow out. Be that as it may, It was a tasty stout, full of the flavors you would expect. Again, I thought there would be more of a bourbon-like flavor, but it was quite hidden in the background.
This was warm going down; definitely could feel the high ABV. As previously mentioned, this was still rather hot and would no doubt soften as it aged.
Overall, a fine brew. I would recommend it, but also to let it sit for a while before opening.

A: pitch black with a 1-finger tan head; quickly dissipates after pour. Typical stout.
S: Spicy; oaked. Resembles a heavily oaked red wine.
T: Spicy; cinnamon and licorice blended with dark chocolate. Maple syrup. Alcohol as an aftertaste.
M: Creamy but not to thick. Bitter hops is a prominent aftertaste and lasts.
O: A great beer; Spicy and malty. Definitely flavors you wouldn't experience in a typical stout. On the pricey side, but worth it.
