A - Golden amber with a two finger head that settles into a thick pillow. Decent lacing around the glass. Plenty of sediment suspended in the beer, seems to be a common theme with Port Brewing.

S - Pine, mango, passion fruit. Nice blend of hops.

T - Hop Bomb! I thought from the smell that this guy was gonna be mild mannered. No way. Bitter hops right up front that mellows out into the more tropical/piney hops. Might be a little sweet bready malts on the back, but they're very faint.

M - Medium bodied, but leaves lots of oil on the tongue. Decent carbonation keeps this guy tasting fresh.

O - Decent IPA, but nothing too special. Four bucks for a bomber makes this beer a win for me though.

Thanks to SatlyMalty for providing my first Port Brewing beer! Poured into a Dogfish signature snifter. Bottleneck says Bottled 7/24/12.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains slightly before descending to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a big patch of frothy surface foam. Lacing slides slowly down the glass leaving a pointy ring.

S- Burst of tropical fruit such as pineapple, guava and mango. Some alcohol fume and a trace of malt.

T- Blast of hop bite on the palate that doesn't include much of the fruit notes that were in the aroma. More grassy in the taste. The bitterness doesn't let up as more sips are taken. The alcohol is relatively light for 7% but still noticeable. Some malt sweetness slips in as the palate finally becomes acclimated. Now the fruit comes in again to offset the bitterness with some juiciness...still very bitter though.

M- Extremely sharp but not dry. Medium carbonation and body.

O- The aroma is excellent, although I find the flavor a bit one-dimensional. But hey, if you want your hop fix, it's right here.

One of my favorite summertime IPAs.

Gently poured into a pilsner glass. Has a hazy strawberry blonde color with a one inch foamy white head. Head lingers for quite a long time.

Aroma is citrusy and sweet like a mild candied orange peel smell.

Taste is reminiscent of the aroma. Mild, sweet and citrusy. With a lingering bitternes in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light to medium, fairly dry with good carbonation.

All around a great sessionable IPA for the summer. Very well balanced and delicious.

Thi is Wipeout IPA, in a 22oz bomber from BevMo, poured into Stella glass.

A: Very nice light gold/light amber color, clear, with a 1" white head; lots of lacing left on the glass as the head subsided.

S: Nice hop aroma - Initially a very spicy aroma; something like you'd find with an English IPA or an all Amarillo IPA. This is followed by a light tropical fruitiness with orange and pink grapefruit to me.

T: Malty and a slight sweeness followed by style appropriate bitterness that lingered nicely as expected. I could again, pick up tropical ruit with moderate bitterness with orange and grapefruit. The overall finish was dry and mildly bitter. The one thing I picked up on the front end was a very strong alcohol presence. If there's one negative about this beer, I would say that's it.

MF: To me, it was a medium heavy mouthfeel, with medium carbonation, and a dry bitterness.

O: I like this IPA. It's a nice, solid very drinkable IPA. I do wish the alcohol were lower and I don't like the alcohol on the front end.

Wipeout IPA, 22oz bomber bottled 7/24, poured into my CBS snifter.

A: Beautiful light gold body, the color of orange juice really...the body is transparent and the head is a small white ring with large bubbles...lots of lacing left on the glass.

S: Really good nose, still smells fresh for a beer thats 1.5 months old...dominating tropical fruitiness, peach and mango, papaya, orange, pink grapefruit...with hints of other sweet fruit and astringent notes.

T: Solid, tropical fruit, moderate bitterness, orange and tangerine, apricot, underlying astringency, grapefruit pith, dry finish.

MF: Light to medium mouthfeel, low carbonation in this bottle, smooth, biting bitterness, moderate dryness.

O: A really solid IPA, probably even better fresh. Wish these kind of beers were offered in 12oz formats though...

This beer came out with 2 fingers of big frothy white head on hazy orange beer.

Smells like sweet tropical fruits..almost berry-like..well balanced with malts.

Taste offers more tropical fruits, more citrus, again very nice balance of sweetness, solid bitter finish.

Nice body on this one..really nice on tap.

I'm not familiar with this brewery but i'm diggin this IPA

Pours a clear golden orange with a thin off-white head. Smells of a hint of grapefruit rind. Flavor begins with a bit of melon initially, followed by some toffee sweetness, then a little bit of bread. After that is primarily grapefruit, and a hint of saltiness, and a pine tree forest flavor. Big bitterness clings to ones tongue. Mouthfeel is rich. Overall an excellent IPA, glad I got to try it.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer was served a hazy amber color with a two finger white head. The head faded over a moderate amount of time to give a decent level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is a nice blend of sweet fruit and hop. It has a pineapple and mango aroma mixed with a very good dose of grapefruit and tangerine citrus hop. While the citrus hop aromas are strongest, there are notes of a nice pine and floral hop as well. With these hop and fruit flavors is also a good dose of yeast. Overall the smell is quite tasty.

Taste – The taste begins with a nice bready and sweet tropical fruit flavor with notes of a pine and earthy hop. These hop flavors then get stronger as citrus hop flavors of a tangerine, lemon and grapefruit flavor come to the tongue. When the citrus arrives, a sweetness also comes to the tongue creating a sweeter hopped up taste. As the taste advances to the end, some to the sweetness fades with the hop remaining constant, which in the end of the taste results in a nice semi-sweet hop bite on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly above average side in terms of both body thickness as well as carbonation. The carbonation may have been a tad too high for the hoppy flavors (although it was nice for the fruit flavors of the brew). The carbonation level did however, make for one pretty easy drinking brew, giving overall a nice feel to the beer.

Overall – A nice IPA with a nice fruit and hop blend. Not too sweet or bitter but balanced fairly well.

My first beer from these guys and it’s a winner. From a bomber poured into a shaker, the beer is a light orange with a chill haze and a massive chiffon like white head. Really nice lacing adds to the effect.

I liked the aroma of pine, citrus, tropical fruit and caramel malts.

The taste closely tracks the smell. Lots going on with grapefruit, pine sap, floral notes and some semisweet malts in the finish. Everything works well together with no one taste really dominating for long.

The mouth is pleasantly coating and oily. Really worth the $5.99 investment. I will be heading back to Sals for more soon!

I've had this a few times but never reviewed, forgot how good this is.

Pours into a pint glass a bright orange with some haze. A finger of white head retains as such leaving some impressive lacing.

Smell/taste - Taste is stronger than the scent, very solid. Good plethora of pure, fresh fruit+earth hop flavor - lots of grassy, grapefruit, pine, mango, citrus. Some biscuity malts peek through just enough so it's not completely lopsided, but this is mostly a total hopfest.

Mouthfeel is a bit high on the carbonation, but full, not much for complaints. Pretty palate bruising.

A great 'classic' West Coast IPA here, every time I've had it I've been impressed.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled 7/5/2012. Pours hazy golden amber color with a nice 2-3 finger dense off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice thick foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, orange, pineapple, herbal, floral, pine, grass, mango, and light bread. Fantastic aromas with great hop balance and complexity. Taste of grapefruit, pine, orange zest, pineapple, herbal, floral, grass, mango, light caramel and bread. Good amount of spicy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, pineapple, floral, grass, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Great balance of hop flavors with a solid malt backbone. Very low amounts of hop bitterness astringency. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a sticky and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic IPA. Great hop flavor balance and complexity; smooth and crisp to sip on. Highly enjoyable.

Bottled 7/24 Consumed 8/28 About as fresh as I've seen this beer in NorCal.

A - Vibrant light orange, almost yellow and a bit hazy. A bit lighter in orange color than your typical west coast IPA. Almost tells me the citrus is most likely lemony. Huge head on this one and the bubbles quite honestly are not very tight BUT keeps a head throughout the tulip glass from start to finish. So I'll be generous here.

S - Weird. Fragrent but muted if that makes sense. Lemon citrus, muted melon and oranges. Light pine and a very faint belgian Banana yeast thing going on but you really have to look for it. Not bad by any means.

T - All the same as the nose but a bit better. There really is nothing wrong with this beer. Everything is done right for the west coast style. Nothing that will blow you away, but at the same time, I wouldn't change much about it minus the mouthfeel which I'm about to get into.

M - A bit overcarbonated (compensating for other issues...Haha, I kid I kid) but it still keeps the beer crisp. Nice dry finish and a wee bit bitter, sucking moisture out of your mouth which I don't mind at all, so long as it's followed by resinous, oily hops in the finish which isn't the case here. Still good though.

O - Solid IPA when fresh. Recommended.

Bomber into Duvel tulip

A - hazy, medium yellow. Thick, billowy white head with great lacing

S - strong, piney hops aroma. Woodsy and fragrant.

T - Great initial hop bite, followed by a mellowing malt presence.  Nice bitterness. Great taste to this Port offering but that it is no surprise.

M - Great mouthfeel. Carbonation is maybe just a tad high but overall an extremely drinkable IPA.

O - perhaps nothing earth shattering, but this is an extremely solid west coast IPA.  Good bitterness, hides the alcohol well, and finishes crisp. Price point is spot on when you get it local as well. I don't think I would pay east coast "import" prices but this is a quality IPA.

Thanks to sil1 for this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into CCB pint glass.

A: Hazy dark yellow that glows when held to light. Pours with a nice big three-finger white head with good lacing. Lots of visible carbonation.

S: Pine, flower and citrus hops. Not real malt aroma here that I can find.

T: Follows the nose - pine & flower hops up front, then an addition of tropical fruit (some pineapple?) hops, and just a little bit of light cracker malt. There is significant hop bitterness that isn't malt balanced at all.

M: Light mouthfeel, huge carbonation - almost overly carbonated. No alcohol presence. Strong citrus pith bitter hang.

O: This has good, nearly excellent hop aroma & flavor, but just isn't balanced at all. It doesn't strike me as overly hopped, but needs some more balance to be an outstanding beer. Still, I'd have another, and I would recommend trying one.

22 oz bottle into shaker pint

A - Cloudy orange-copper in color with less than a finger of foamy head that dissipates quickly.

S - Great west-coast hop aroma. Tropical fruit hops -- grapefruit and clementine sweetness.

T - Tropical fruit hops -- grapefruit -- plus caramel and malty sweetness. Some bitterness early transitions to a sweetness.

M - Medium body, wet. Nice and smooth, could use a bit more carbonation.

O - Overall a fine IPA. A good example of a well made west-coast style IPA.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A real nice citrus orange amber body, a little hazy and opaque, with a good cap that makes an off white head about three fingers tall, with some good retention. Looks solid and simple.

Nose is muted tropical mush hop, a sweet white sugar, dense. Smelling lively and a little toned down. Muted orange citrus creeps out a bit.

A real nice body on this beer. Wonderful coating feel in the palate bring a rich malt density and a hop bonanza. Fruit swallow and a little bit of rich hop oil goodness on the finish. Texture is really creamy, with a nice malt sweetness almost milky cream goodness. Lingering dry pine and apple butter.

Overall another great solid Pizza Port brew. Very enjoyable, happy to have a good beer tonight for once, I want to have this again.

A 22 oz bomber.

Poured a beautiful bright orange. The head and lace are great.

Nose was slightly citrus but fresh.

Taste is very hoppy. I would place this on the citrus end of the IPA spectrum with pine mixed in. Not a lot of floral or malt. It is quite nice though.

The mouth feel and drinkability are good. This is a worthy offering.

A 22oz bottle with a bottled-on date of Oct 2010 (!). I bought this a few months back from a webshop - I'm disappointed at the age of the bottle (and not for the first time). Still, it doesn't seem to have aged too badly. Described on the label as a San Diego-style West Coast IPA.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A rich, hazy golden-amber hue with medium carbonation. Produces a huge head of creamy white foam with good retention; this eventually subsides to a surface layer. Aroma of sweet malt with notes of hoppy pine, rounded citrus and faint tropical fruit. Underpinned by a hint of dry yeast.

Tastes of caramel malt with a hoppy character and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of citrus, mild pine, faint tropical fruit and earthy yeast. Possesses a spicy quality, along with considerable bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with good body. Pretty astringent - dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops and yeast.

A decent American IPA, though I feel that it has suffered due to it's age. Solid hop aromas and bitterness are present, yet the subtleties of character have melted away over time - resulting in a rather indistinct blend of flavours. Decent malt, yeast and hops, but nothing that transcends average for the style. A well-crafted beer that I'll revisit if I have the chance.

Pours a cloudy pale golden color with an absolutely huge, foamy, fluffy off-white head that hangs around forever. It's literally annoying how long I had to wait to take the first pull. In the meantime, I assessed the bouquet. It's nearly like fresh hops, meaning, the aroma I get after I open a package of vacuum-sealed hop pellets. Grassy and lemony hops. There's so much hop presence in the nose that it wouldn't be surprising to see hop vegetable matter floating in the beer. There's also some notes of bread yeast in the bouquet.

The beer is light to medium-bodied with a somewhat smooth mouthfeel. There's a lemon perfume presence in the flavor from start to finish. Some notes of green banana and Belgian yeast. It gets a little hop hot toward the finish. It's very homebrewish for a variety of reasons. But, generally speaking, the appearance, bouquet, and flavor are all reminiscent of what just came out of a plastic, 6 gallon fermentor in the some homebrewer's closet. Backing off of the Centennial hops and changing the yeast strain might help this beer. It's kind of sad the way it is.

22 oz bottle Erin brought back from San Diego. Bottle date 4/13/12.

Appearance: Clear yellow gold with a thick, fluffy white head that leaves great lacing.

Smell: Strong pine and citrus hops aromas with less tropical fruit. A bit of dank too. A little crackery malt smell. Excellent.

Taste: Big hops flavor and bitterness. Again pine and grapefruit. There is some sweet orange and mango, maybe even strawberry. Little balancing maltiness. Long bitter, slightly aspirin-like finish.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation. Slick, then very dry and resiny in the end.

Overall: A really great IPA. A little less bittering hops, or a touch more malt and this becomes really world class.

Surfin' USA, surfin' USA, oh wait a minute, I need to get back to the subject at hand.

Wipeout IPA pours a beautiful cross between blond and amber with a huge head.

A huge dose of west coast hoppage complete with grapefruit notes in the nose. 5 varieties of hops and I certainly detect simcoe, centennial and cascade.

The taste can vouch for my point. Lots of pine notes with a touch of mango to accentuate the grapefruit. Make no boards about it, this is a massive hop wave.

Silly puns aside, the mouthfeel retains a good dose of hop flavors with just a touch of malt.

Glad I bought this. I wasn't sure if I had already reviewed it. Nonetheless, I'll have to make another trip to Ryan and Casey in Greenfield, MA to get more.

From 22oz bomber to Hess glass on 6/6/12
*From notes

-- Thanks, cayenne --

A: A massive 3.75 finger, fluffy white head lingers forever. God this is gorgeous. Cloudy sunset amber yellow in hue. Killer lacing, retention and collar.

S: Juicy, luscious hop oil. A touch of toasty malt, grain interweaves quite well.

T: Dry from top to bottom. This starts bitter, with hints of toast. Intense, unripe peach is star of the back end.

M: The feel is nice. This is well carbonated, as it's soft yet packing plenty of punch.

O: Not the best of Port's hoppy offerings, yet it's still better then 90% of the hop-forward brews oversaturating the market. One heck of a great beer, and a cornerstone of the West Coast movement. I can't wait to see this is four-packs in the near future, as I could easily see a case of this lingering around my fridge.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy gold color with a tall, fluffy white head that collapses unevenly, yet remains like a thick meringue.

Smells hoppy and bitter, with plenty of white grapefruit and white pine. Mild hints of honey malt poke though, but this is mainly about the hops.

Taste starts fresh and clean, with crisp white grapefruit, citrus and an almost floral-like quality. A honey, almost toffee-like malt kicks in half-way through the sip, giving it some heft. The finish, however, is like a tidal wave of bitter, pulling the taste buds under and drowning them in a pounding surf of frothy hops.

Mouthfeel starts crisp and clean, but ends bitter, biting and dry. This beer feels as excellent as it tastes, and is a real joy to sip.

The label claims five hops were used to brew this IPA, and I don't doubt that every one of them was liberally added to the brew. Pizza Port is not available locally; I got this during a recent visit to the Philly area. It is an excellent brew, that really nails the idea of a clean, crisp, and full-flavored IPA. An absolute must-try, if you can get it, in my opinion.

From a brown 22 oz. bomber, picked up in Ponderay, Idaho. Pours out a cloudy apricot hue, tall rocky cream coloured head that retains and slowly settle to a thick cap. Thick rings of lacing.

Apart from some sweet bready malt the aroma is a veritable medley of hops with perfumey, floral, citrusy, grassy notes.

While not technically balanced (this is, after all, an American IPA), there is a high degree of harmony and cohesion in the flavour. Grainy and mildly bready malt up front that quickly fades back to dry leafy and grassy, spicy, citrus pith hops, fruity floral notes near the finish that gets bumped out by earthy pine and grapefruit rind. Lots of character here, if only from the hops.

Medium-bodied mouthfeel, slick mouthfeel with moderate carbonation that gets brisk on the swallow.

Very satisfying West Coast IPA, not merely a hop bomb, there's substance and depth to be found in it as well. Solid offering, wish I would have grabbed more.

22oz bottle served in a snifter.

pours a hazy, dull golden tone with a solid finger plus of a light beige, foamy head. nice retention, slowly fades into a thin cap; good lacing. really respectable presentation.

potent nose offers citric (grapefruit/lemon zest) and floral hoppiness with a discernible pine character as well. not much in the way of balancing malts, at least from the aroma. flavor follows the nose to a certain degree but in a more subdued way than i was expecting/hoping. i do get a touch of caramel malt. good, enjoyable, but in a star-studded category, really sort of middling. hoppy bitterness carries through the finish.

medium-bodied with medium carbonation. not bad drinkability, i just think there are better IPA options out there. that said, in the end it's still a solid offering.
