This is possibly the best single IPA I have had. Color is light orange due to light malting, but the aromas are exceptionally complex. Ballast Sculpin seems more restrained, Stone IPA less intense, but those are the two I would compare. The hops intensity of Wipeout seems higher than its 78 IBU rating, almost like a lightly malted double IPA such as Pliny the Elder.

A - Golden orange and cloudy. Some carbonation

S - Scent is obvious. Its like a blanketing hug of hops. Very fruity and citrusy. They need to make candles that smell like this. Or maybe a perfume. I could smell this all night, but my mouth is watering so a taste is in order!

T - A somewhat sharper hop taste. Sweet and juicy fruityness balances it but not in the way malty-ness does. Really great fruity, citrus hops.

M - Some dry feeling at the end of the sip, but still mouth watering. Not too much carbonation, but far from a smooth drink. Lighter mouth feel. No harsh alcohol.

D - This far exceeded my expectations. Really great beer and you can bet I'll be buying more of this. Super wonderful and highly recommended!

This date on the keg was 8 days old when I brought it home, and it was marvelous. Forget the reviews before September 2012, this is a whole new batch with the hops available during this high tide season. Really bright aromatic hops, and then more hops after that. Pungent would be a good word to describe it. Sweet, some alcohol evident, but still a bubbly refreshing beer that you can have a few of in one session. Nice balance on the malts, it leaves the fresh hops taste something to bite your flavor buds with.

Pitcher at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Awesome beer! Amber burnt sienna color, excellent piny citrus cascade hop aroma been one of my favorites. Nice light caramel flavor with intense hop bitterness. Very crisp clean dry finish. Be carefull of the high alcohol and do not drink anything after that is lighter because this brew really fatigues the tastebuds

Purchased at Downtown Wines and Liquors in Boston for 5.95. There is sediment in the bottom so I believe this is bottle conditioned.

Pours a clear deep copper with a frothy long lasting head that emits copious rings of lace seperated by webs. The aroma is full of sweet citrusy PacNW hops, pine, grapefruit and tropical fruit are all over the place. Some sugary malt lies in the background. The taste is satisfyingly bitter with loads and loads of resiny, pithy hops. The flavors are exactly equal parts grapefruit and pine. Some herbal hop flavors lie in wait. At the very end of the mule train lies a light malt profile. A bit of bready dough that shows more with time and warmth. The finish is wonderfully bitter but also aromatically sweet. The mouthfeel is full and wonderfully carbonated, not too much, not too little.

This is an amazing IPA. Packed with hops and bitterness.

Received a bomber as a Christmas present from a friend in California.

Appears amber in color with copper hues. Little foamy white head.
Smells of pure piney hops, like a car air freshener
Taste is a citrusy grapefruit wave followed by a wipeout of piney hops (appropriately named beer)
Each and every sip is an attack of hops on the palate, instantly takes me back to Southern California
Fantasic beer to the last drop. Clearly a bomber is not enough, next time I'm getting a growler.

Pours with a brilliantly clear, richly, reddish copper color. It is topped by a frothy, initially two-finger thick, tan colored head. A fresh hoppy aroma is here; notes of candied orange peel, ruby-red grapefruit, lychee and notes of apricot and peach are all noticeable here. Interestingly enough, even when intensely examined, the citrus aromatics linger on and refuses to let me get at any underlying malt character.

The taste is only lightly sweet up front. Punchy hop notes jump out immediately at me. A more intense sweetness becomes noticeable, magnifying the citrus hop components that make up the flavor profile of this beer. Loud notes of sweet tangerines, oranges, grapefruit and smoother fruit note of apricot, lychee and even some tropical fruit notes are noticeable. This beer is definitely intensely hopped; bitingly raw and hoppy notes of pine, menthol and a lingeringly herbal character that leans towards mint at times. A huge, lingering, astringently bitter note dominates the finish and continues on in my taste buds long after the beer has left my mouth.

The striking thing about this beer is that it is perfectly hopped for its gravity. By which I mean this beer clearly has lots of hops, yet it never gets to be too much. It has a perfect balance such that the hops are not more than the malt can handle. There is not a whole lot of malt character noticeable here; it is just enough malt to allow the ample hops to shine and dominate.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy gold color with a tall, fluffy white head that collapses unevenly, yet remains like a thick meringue.

Smells hoppy and bitter, with plenty of white grapefruit and white pine. Mild hints of honey malt poke though, but this is mainly about the hops.

Taste starts fresh and clean, with crisp white grapefruit, citrus and an almost floral-like quality. A honey, almost toffee-like malt kicks in half-way through the sip, giving it some heft. The finish, however, is like a tidal wave of bitter, pulling the taste buds under and drowning them in a pounding surf of frothy hops.

Mouthfeel starts crisp and clean, but ends bitter, biting and dry. This beer feels as excellent as it tastes, and is a real joy to sip.

The label claims five hops were used to brew this IPA, and I don't doubt that every one of them was liberally added to the brew. Pizza Port is not available locally; I got this during a recent visit to the Philly area. It is an excellent brew, that really nails the idea of a clean, crisp, and full-flavored IPA. An absolute must-try, if you can get it, in my opinion.

22 oz'er all for me! Label: 5 hops including Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Summit. Clockin' in at 7% ABV.

Gluugy pour fills a tall tulip with a cratered surface of the moon vanilla hued head cap over a hazy golden auburn orange offereing. Last pour contained a bit of loose suspended debris.

Hops nose aroma flows over to my nose from three feet away. Fresh squeezed orange juice citrus and a light oky pine wood. Caramel sweetness. Incredible!

First swigs: Spree candy and cherry orange juice sweet hops with a linger of bright flavor echo. Excellent malt balance that whips this into a creamy vanilla ice cream balance.

Soft feel with full bodied IPA. Finish of dry pine and maple syrup.

Last swigs: Ranks right up with Alesmith IPA in my book as an amazing IPA. I could %&^# these all night all week.

Beer is good. Happy IPA beering.

22 oz. Botttle. This beer pours a slightly murky orange with a striking white thick head and sticky lacing.
The aroma is filled with pine, citrus, earth, and a sweet and fruity malt notes.
The flavor is has a huge hop flavor and bite. Then the malt comes to the rescue with some balance making this beer very drinkable. A well made beer is what it is.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle. Color was a beautiful clear orange-amber with a slightly creamy 1/4 inch of head. Bright floral/leafy hops were present. Strong hop presence but a nice balance of malt with a slight hint of alcohol finish. All around classic I.P.A. Very drinkable and enjoyable!

I first had this beer at the Carlsbad location. Had it yesterday in a bottle. Poured into a Duvel glass. Pours the color of apple juice with a tan head. Lots of lace sticking to the glass. Awesome notes of citrus, melon, light spice, and raisin. Medium body with amazing crispiness with more citrus flavors (tropical fruits) mixed with light raisin and the perfect amount of caramel taste. The hops definately dominate with the malt in the background. Finsihes with amazing bitterness, smoothness, an crispiness. As you might have guessed this is my favorite IPA. I love this beer.

On Tap at 3 Rivers 6 Pack & Eatery, Delmont PA

Appearance: cloudy, unfiltered, orange and I could see floaties of yeast. Head laces glass like rings around Saturn.

Smell: classic West Coast IPA. I could literally lite this up as candle to burn all day.

Taste: bitterness of hops smacks you upside the head and leaves you wanting another sip immediately. Malt is literally blinded by the hops. Very unbalanced but thats the point isn't it? For hop heads, this is Nirvana.

Overall: Green Flash used to be my favorite West Coast IPA but this far exceeds it. I could easily drink several of these as the ABV is not noticable at all but will catch up to you sooner or later.

First review on here, but what a beer to kick that off with!

Appearance: Murky golden color, with one finger of head.

Smell: Brash and citrus hoppy. It takes me by surprise.

Taste: Wow.. this is tasty! Wow.. this is hoppy! Smooth for an IPA and focused in the bitterness rather than trying too hard to be well-rounded. Fitting of the archetypal Southern California IPA.

Mouthfeel: Intense, but smooth and with noticeable carbonation. Almost tickles my upper lip.

Drinkability: Not a beer for everyone, but a delightful example of an IPA. I would not have enjoyed it as much without previous experience. I will be buying this one again.

A delightful punch of bitterness from my pint glass. Flows in a light amber color headed with a 1 cm yellowish white foam that dissipates from the center leaving nice lacings on sides. The carbonation is good so an smoothly twist will bring the foam back. The nose will receive floral & citrus aromas while your palate catches an intense and dry bitterness. Unforgetable mouthfeelig. The aftertaste leaves piney & woody flavor. Refreshing & flavored, the alcohol is not felt. Very good drinkability.

Pours a light straw yellow with very active carbonation and a loose head. Smell is magnificent, hoppy, sticky, piney, citrusy, grassy, leafy, sappy, oily, delicious. Taste is right there with the smell, very bitter and floral with enough malt to back it up. Mouthfeel and drinkability were good.

Poured into a chalice glass, Wipeout IPA has a hazy golden amber color with a big fluffy cream colored head. A good amount of sticky lacing is left all over the glass, and there is still a generous amount of froth atop the beer after sitting for some time. The aroma is very hoppy, with lots of resinous pine and citrus fruit aromas. There is a mild sweetness accompanying the bitter aroma, but it's more of sweet mango and pineapple than malt sweetness.

The flavor is of juicy tropical fruit; mango, pineapple, grapefruit, as well as resinous pine. There is a slight bitterness that does more of balancing the sweetness rather than get too astringent. Lingering hop bitterness finishes each sip. The hop flavor in this IPA is honestly... incredible.

With a medium body and mildish carbonation, it's hard not to drink this beer in 1 minute because of how delicious it is. Depending on your tolerance to bitter hoppy beers, you may disagree, but I find this to be refreshing and very drinkable. Not to mention, one of the best examples of a west coast IPA I've ever tried. (It's hard to believe this isn't a DIPA).

This beer pours a slightly cloudy golden orange coler with a thick, fluffy, white head with a slightly yellow tint to it. The head fades slowly, leaving a good lacing. A little yeast is floating around at the end of the pour.

This beer has I nice floral hoppy aroma. It also has some citrusy fruit notes. A slight lemon and grapefruit aroma is present. It has a very subtle grassy hop aroma also. A slight malty aroma balances well.

This beer tastes much like it smells. It has a crisp floral hop flavor. It has a nice citrus zest as well. A little grassy hop flavor is present.

This beer is crisp and refreshing. It goes down smooth, leaving a floral hoppy aftertaste. It is carbonated just right.

I think this beer would make a good session beer. The only problem is the alcohol is slightly high.

Overall: This beer is always good. I like to keep it around all the time. I have no complaints at all.

Poured a deep murky orange with a thick, rocky white head. Tons of thick lacings leave a trail as you empty the glass. Hoppy citrus grapefruit aroma with a sweet malty undertone. Medium bodied and creamy smooth with nice carbonation. Flavors are much the same as the aromas. Citrus grapefruit and orange rind with a sweet malty backbone. Finishes with a slight pine hop and alcoholic heat. Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had. Went down smooth and easy.

Ok...this is exactly how an American IPA should be.
Cloudy golden amber in the glass is topped with 2 fingers of white foam that melts slowly to real sticky lacing that keeps a crown on the liquid.
Aromas are mostly about the hops but start with sweet amber malt then buried with citrus and pine hops....fresh hops....lots of hops.
Taste is first sweet but immediately overtaken with a complex mixture of hops....lemon peel....grapefruit...grapefruit peel....pine resin.
Aftertaste cleans up fast leaving you with a dry memory of grapefruit.
Gentle alcohol warming.
Love it...love it...love it...this is the way the west coast does it and they do it RIGHT.

Cloudy, honey colored with less fluffy and persistent head than other Port beers. But I love the unfiltered, orangeish liquid.

Smells a bit like banana bread and/or tostones with plenty of pungent, earthy notes. Definitely hoppy, and smells like BEER and not wine or tea or gardening compost.

Taste: This is an extremely flavorful, hoppy beer, and I love it like I love grandma. I acknowledge that some may find it a bit on the one-dimensional side--it does not reflect hop complexity quite as well as it could, even though it includes Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe, and Summitt.

Mouthfeel is perfect. For my palate, Port excels at this--full bodied with both creaminess and a bite.

Overall: In Georgia, where I live, this is one of the most explosively flavorful and kick-ass IPAs available, and is therefore among my favorites.

Appears a clouded unfiltered copper orange hue with a bright off white head forms like layers of custard rising well above the rim of the glass. Aroma is full of citrus west coast hops grapefrui bomb, the type of IPA I have come to know and love. Flavors are hop forward citrus juice sugary layered tones of grapefruit, herbal, earthiness exploding on the palate with huge complimentary hop additions. Very bitter but very sweet hops of course rise to the occasion with a bit of backend heat, served decently warm but fully chilled this beer really had some West Coast balls in the hop department. A bit of tropical fruit, sweet sugar blasted hop candy with a touch of hot alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel overall is medium to full bodied citrus dryness with full rounded edges, carbonation is solid assertive not overdone. Resinous, oily textures make the palate pretty well lubricated. Drinkability is pretty kick ass, I wish I had more access to this beer, I've seen it in Pittsburgh once...this bottle was shipped from Hi Times in Costa Mesa, CA.

Picked this growler up at the Pizza Port in Carlsbad.

No doubt about it, I fucking love hops so fucking much. This here is a fine way to get a healthy dose of hops into your diet without the intensity of moving on to a Double IPA (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I bombed through this growler very quickly. Whatever the ABV, it just didn't matter it was well buried in the gorgeousness of the hop character. Pine and citrus hopness all over the place. Not too intense, perhaps just quite right.

Everything about this was pure class. Sadly, now it's gone and I'm 150 miles away from the closest Pizza Port.

Appearance - Hazy golden orange, with a chalk white finger length head that settles down rather quickly. Lacing is all that and a bag of chips, as it clumps to the glass before leaving a pillow on top of the brew.

Smell - Smack to the face with a few varities of hops. Lemon, grapefruit and orange pay their dues in this one. The perfect whisp of malt is also crashing the party.

Taste & Mouthfeel - What more could you ask for out of a west coast ipa from a brewer that never misses the mark? Huge hop bitterness coats the mouth, and just when you give up on anything else, a tsunami of citrus flows in. The same three fruits do their thing, and a soothing malt tone gives it a third flavor. The malts really come out in the mouthfeel to keep this one from getting to carried away by the hops.

Drinkability - Thank goodness for South Bay Drugs, and the fact that they ship to Louisiana. Since I can't afford a trip to Cali to pick up the bottles, I can have a case delivered right to my doorstep. Aaaahhh, thanks South Bay.

Hazy, orange straw coloring. Light, white head - persistent lacing throughout.

Bright, piney, citrus hop aroma - definitely a West coast IPA. Picking up some grapefruit.

Sharp hop bite out of the gates, pretty light on the malt front. Creamy mouthfeel, with a lingering bitterness and very dry finish.

Packs a bit of a punch at 7%, but I could drink several of these.
