Bottle shared by Sammy, 650ml into a tulip.

Copper brown, beige head with light retention. Sugary malts on the nose, brown sugar, spicy and citrus zest evoking hops. Taste has some sweetish bready malt, herbal and bitter hopping, some citrus, charred/toasted grains. Sweeter medium feel, no alcohol. A pretty well hopped imperial amber lager (or at least that's what I'm calling it).

22 oz bottle poured into a .5l cylinder.

A: Lovely pour, bronze color, creamy, tight, lasting head. Great color and islands of foam, modest lacing.

S: caramel malts, toffee, walnuts, toasty copper malts, plus grassy and herbal hops. Very attractive, better as it warms, goes well with food.

Food: (in this case lightly sauteed radish, spinach, arugula just cut from garden combined with walnuts, pine nuts, lemon juice and a bit of this beer)

Taste:Beefy malts, nuts, toffee and caramel, with hint of darker malts. Fresh bread and wheat, then also hoppy, grassy with esters and alcohol 'power', at 9%.
touch Some fruity lager character Finish gets a little bitter, tingly, but more estery, syrupy. Still a nice finish and a solid, strong, ie DOUBLE beer.

Mouth - fuller bodied, little syrupy, with warming booze, plus upbeat carbonation. Appropriately weighty in mouth feel balance by carbonation, tingle, alcohol. A good meditation beer.

Overall - Definitely would come back to this one. Would love to share with a friend. Great with food. Great deep double alcohol experience. Feels good after. Warming. Good winter beer.

Very solid and makes me want to try more Full Sail, employee owned.

Expected a lot more of a malt backbone here & fewer hops. Not a hop overkill case, though; they balance the slight biscuity leaning of the malts with herbal tartness.

It does taste like there's major alcohol here, but it's not bracing. Probably a good introduction to doppelbocks for folks intimidated by the German tradition.

Time for a nice doppelbock, haven't had one in a while.

Pours a big creamy 2 finger head that sticks around for quite some time, never seeming to want to fade, nice lacing notching the glass when it eventually goes down, tons of bubbles floating around, some up but some just seem to dance around the inside of the clear auburn pale tan colored beer.

Nose brings plenty of caramel malts at first, lots of toffee, a little nutty like, toasty reddish copper malts, little grainy and toasty, with a light fruity lager like base somewhere in there. Light grassy hops come through, grassy and slightly herbal leafy like hops.

Taste comes with chewy malts, plenty of toffee and caramel again, even nutty as well, with a faint hint of darker malts under that even. Chewy bready slight grainy malts in there, with lots of toasty reddish copper malts, It has some light wheat characters, but more like caramelized wheat characters, fluffy and grassy. Then hops, a decent bitterness but not overly, light grassy a little earthy herbal hop character, faint esters and hint of booze, as well as light fruity lager characters, touch of apple pear like fruity flavors. Finish gets quite bitter as it attempts to dry, never really drying as it sticks to the mouth, earthy spicy chewy and grassy leafy hops mostly, with more nutty toffee and caramel coppery malts lingering too, bit syrupy.

Mouth is med to fuller bodied, little syrupy, a bit of warming booze, tons of fluffy carbonation, maybe too much.

Overall not bad, nice copper malts, plenty of toffee caramel flavors which are nice, even nice lager flavors, the hops start decent but get a little too bitter overall for what i would expect for a doppelbock, and the thick syrupy feel starts OK but gets a bit too syrupy and too much carbonation at the same time. Overall still a nice beer, and booze goes down smoothly.

Pours a clear deep golden orange color with a decent off white head that persists for a bit. Smells of sweet honey like pilsner malt with a twinge of spicy hops and a bit of syrupy orange and a solid shot of ethanol. The flavor follows the aroma with lots of bready sweet malt and plenty of ethanol burn. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. I'm not sure how you can consider this a dopplebock with no caramelized sugars or dark fruits in the mix. I continue to be unimpressed with full sail, this one reminds me of a malt liquor and should be poured out of a forty.

Bomber bottle, a bargain at under $5 from Cable Bev. in Bardonia, NY

Pours almond amber, hazed, under a medium tan head, that stays at the 1/4 inch level. Collar develops, along with a blotchy film and then leaves low sheeting and respectable lacing.

Malty nose with some clementine flourishes.

Sweet and malty, then some fruit and finally a dry and moderatly hopped up finish.

Nice heady brew at 9%

Cheers!

What is a pale doppleback? This is a pale winterwarmer? Bottle from Champane's Cellars. A good bitterness and spicy. Good maltiness, toffee, and some malt liquor aftertaste. Wasn't the style but nice and good drinkability. Nice bubbly head. Worth a try.
