Had this at the brew pub in Hood River, OR on 2010-01-31

A - Deep mahogony with a wonderfully rich, tan head

S - Chocolate, bread, hops, fruit

T - Great. Toasted grain, dark chocolate, citrus caramel, fruit and a delicious, oily dry hop flavor.

M - Thick with low carbonation

D - Don't pass this one up if you get a chance.

A - Pours a medium brown with a large tan head after a vigorus pour.

S - Christmas spice and very malty.

T - Raisins and dark fruit with a touch of spice.

D - Good carbonation with a fairly light body.

O - Christmas-winter ale. A good standard, but still solid.

Strangely enough, it's still wintery in Florida, and this has four more days until it's best by date. Wassail pours a murky brown color with a large head that laces wonderfully. The aroma is muddled, providing a nondescript maltiness and spiciness. The taste fares better though, offering a much more rich malt experience along with a touch of nuttiness that goes very well with the spices. Malty bitterness lingers through the finish. The mouthfeel is pretty standard, it goes down easily without highlight, and the drinkability is pretty solid. Overall, it's a good winter warmer that's cheap.

Appearance- Deep brown/red. Transluscent with ruby highlights. Thick Ivory persistent head

Aroma- Floral, earthiness, roast like bittersweet chocolate, slight alcohol

Flavor- Malt and roastiness at the begging, feeling very full. The bitterness then comes in and evens out the malt flavors. The hop flavors, for me, come in at the end..lots of floral notes. Finish is dry but full with the floral hop flavor mixed with the roast

Mouthfeel- Medium. Carbonation appears good. Slight pleasant alcohol warmth at the end.

Overall- One of my favorite winter seasonals.

a very enjoyable wintery brew, lacking in spice and sweet, which makes me happy. pours really dark brown with a faint orangey glow, inch of fading khaki head on top. the aroma is really malt forward, dark and well toasted, maybe some unmalted barley in here too, its got that roasty bitter aromatic. flavor is more balanced than the nose, less bitter than expected, and the malts take on more of a breakfast cake character, molassas without the sweetness, gentle and distinct, easily on of the better full sail beers ive had. the feel works too, really lazy carbonation contributes to a heavier vibe, but the body is fairly light despite its color, slides right down no problem. sessionable id day, but the well hidden abv might sneak up on you after a few. either way i really enjoyed this as a slow sipper, letting it come up to room temperature to let the full malt complexity unfold. well done, i know its hard to resist spicing the bejeezus out of these winter seasonals.

Poured into a 16oz goblet. A nice 2 finger dirty white foamy head on pour, settled down to 1 finger, with a fair amount of cling. Color was a very dark rich brownish red with a bit of transparency. Aroma was a bit sweet up front, then shifted to a bit of a spicy finish. Hints of pepper and a few other similar aromas. Flavor was initially subtle, then finished with a bit of bite. Started off creamy and smooth, then picked up some pepper, before leaving a bitter hops flavor in the mouth. Felt a bit off in the mouth, coated well, but not in the front of the mouth area, but more towards the back of the mouth. Overall a nice winter warmer. Not as overpoweringly spicy as some, but with enough flavor and kick to stand up to the cold.

Not sure if the recipe on this changes every year or not but this is the 2012 version. Beautiful nutty brown color, clear and has small bubbles coming up from bottom entire time. Aromas of raisin, prune and dark fruit. Roasted smell too, with a creamy light tan head. Leaves a nice lace on glass. Sweetness strikes first, touch of vanilla and I get a hint of citrus zest. Spicy flavors follow with black pepper and a general nuttiness. Finish is a roasted coffee bitterness. Has a nice warming effect and a sort of foamy volume to it. One of the best winter warmers I've had so far.

It pours a dark red with a tan head it decent retention and beautiful lacing. The aroma is malty and spicy. There is also a strong pine a citrus hop presence. The taste is malty and woodsy with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish reveals pine and coffee. There is light carbonation with a moderate/light mouthfeel. It is lighter in flavor than most other winter beers and it is incredibly refreshing in a season dominated by thick syrup-like brews. It is simply outstanding.

The beer poured from the bottle and was dark amber in colour. It smelled of malty spice and hop. This beer had a surprisingly high alcohol content which was not really reflected in the taste. Thevarious flavors passed over the palate in distinct phases. The initial taste was sweet, followed by a light hoppiness and finished with a toasty nuttiness common to many winter ales. This lingered as a mild, roasty after taste.

Would I buy this beer again? Maybe.

A: Dark copper pour with a little off white head. Leaves a little lacing behind, though that doesn't last long. Keeps a thin head throughout.

S: There's a sweetness and strong malt present in the initial smell. Second comes a milder, sour, fruity scent. The malt dominates throughout, though.

T: The malt is obvious up front with some graininess prominent as well. Caramel notes complement and some mild bitter hops emerge as the beer warms.

M: Medium bodied, initially fairly crisp but gets thicker as it goes on.

Very nice beer and a good example of the style. A little thick, but the taste is amazing and the smell wonderful. Well done.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this beer. But wow! This beer exceeded all expectations. As soon as I cracked open the bottle, a nice aroma of sweet malted hops hit my nose. Upon inspection I noticed the exact right amount of carbonation and lacing. The beer is wonderfully smooth and sweet and goes down exceptionally smooth. A very worthy effort and a pleasant surprise.

Deep red, near black with a foamy, fairly thick, cream colored head, nice lacing.

Pine, resiny hops blended with toffee notes, caramel malts as well as some dark, cocoa malt notes.

Medium body, with mild carbonation.

A very enjoyable winter warmer, a well executed hop profiles blends seamlessly into a great, dark malt profile.

Half finger of tan head. A nice ruby colored body.
Smell is bread and grain, rich overall.
Taste is hardy. Lots of malt here with balanced bitterness to keep the sweetness at bay. Little eating a loaf of bread.
Thicker body, low carbonation and a stickiness to it.
A hefty beer. Perfect for the cold weather.

Poured from a bottle into a glass, creating a one-inch head and modest lacing. The brew was dark brown, with almost no light shining through.

The nose was malty with roasted smells apparent, as well as caramel.

Very tasty! The caramel in the nose carried over into the taste, mixing with a spicy kick up front and dark cherries and other mild fruit flavors in the background.

The mouthfeel was smooth and thin. Easy to drink.

Overall, this is a great example of an ideal winter warmer. The spices are noticeable and help make the brew warm and lively, but they are in balance and not overbearing. It is also easy enough to drink that it could potentially serve as a session beer. Cheers!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed live.

A- Very thin khaki head. Sticks around as a floater, however. Dark, coca-cola brown color, semi-cloudy with little clarity.

S- Some sour scents, vinous notes, cherry, oak and other barrel sort of smells.

T- Definitely some alcohol tastes, tart and crisp flavor. Hard for me to pick out much, but tasty.

M- Medium bodied with a vinous feel afterward. Sharp carbonation and relatively wet feel.

O- High scoring, I just wish I could pick out more flavors in the taste. That would elevate it to a very good instead of a good.

Cola brown with a cappuchino tan head. Nice lacing.

aroma is toasted malt with a faint spiciness like cocoa and ginger and cloves.

mouthfeel is average.

taste; toasted brown bread with a definite bittersweet cocoa flavor. light bitterness like walnuts on the finish. Bitterness increases pleasantly as beer warms.

a nice malty sipper, probably better at a slightly warmer temp.

first time ive had this beer this year. havent had many of the winter warmers but its definately got alot of flavor to it and cant go wrong being 7.2% ABV overall a really good beer would definitely have it on tap if i could find it..even for a darker beer it still has a lighter IPA taste with a hint of caramel? (maybe)

Poured into a dimpled mug from a bottle.

Appearance-Deep brown/ruby brown. Poured a creamy, bubbly tannish head that stayed most of the time I drank it. It left some sticky, creamy lace on the glass. Good looking brew!

Smell- I could smell some burnt malt and some brown sugar spice. Sometimes the smell went flat, I am not sure why. Maybe it's my nose...

Taste-It is quite an X-masy brew: burnt brown sugar, caramel malt, cinnamon and spice bread, caramelized nut. I could really taste the NW Hops in the aftertaste. The overall taste was a healthy balance of toasty malt on the front and bitter hops in the back. It reminded me of a stronger Scottish Ale at times because of the warmth from the alcohol. Nice!

Mouthfeel-Full-bodied and moderate carbonation. Perfect Winter Warmer (if winter every comes)! It is cold, but not as cold as it use to be this time of year.

Overall-great beer to have during this season. Have one, it will warm you right up. Cheers!

A: A dark brown with lots of ruby and excellent clarity. The head is about a finer of fine, tan bubbles that last for a long time and leave a light bit of lacing on the glass.

S: Moderate hops aroma of pine with an rich malt aroma with some caramel malt aroma. There kind of kettle caramelization aroma that reminds me of a Scottish Strong ale. There are some light esters of orange and prunes.

T: A rich malt flavor that isn't sweet like barelywines can get with a mild caramel flavor. There is a a firm hops bitterness and a moderate citrus hops flavor. The balance is fairly bitter with an off-dry finish and a citrus hops aftertaste. There are some low fruit flavors like orange and prunes with a touch of honey.

M: A medium-full bodied beer with moderate carbonation and a light alcohol warmth in the throat.

O: A malty and moderately hoppy beer that fits the bill of a holiday ale in my house having no fruit nor spice and a good hops showing. I want a bit more in the nose from the hops and the malt but then it would almost be a dark IPA. It's a great looking beer. Don't drink this one to cold our you miss the best parts which are subtle fruity and hops flavors.

OMG! This is simply excellent. I am also one that judges by style. I don't compare a craft against adjunct. Its apples to apples with me. This is one great beer period! I had mine in a frosted mug. The beer was just chilled not cold and the first drink was heaven. It is well balanced and full of flavor. Try it before it is no longer availible.

A-Dark, clear brown with a ruby tint. Tan head is mild. It also leaves ribbons of lacing.

S-Smell is light spice and rich sweet malt. Dark fruits. Gingerbread. Nutmeg. Light hoppiness. Pleasant mixture of spice, sweets and hops.

T-Flat root beer and gingerbread with baked-in raisins. Decent amount of perfumey hops. On the hopper side of the style. Sweet caramel and brown sugar. Holiday spices. I get the slightest hint of booze.

M-Carbonation is very soft. Mild bitterness. A hint of alcohol. Overall, quite drinkable. I also enjoyed it more as it warmed.

O/D-A solid Winter Warmer. I enjoyed the rather noticeable hoppiness. One of the better Winter Warmers in my opinion. Might try it again next Winter.

12 oz bottle purchased in the Utah system. This bottle says 7.2 ABV and I poured it into a perfect pint.

Appearance: A wonderful ruby brown that is brilliantly clear when held up to a light. The fluffy three finger head leaves lacing all the way down and receded slowly. Looks great.

Smell: Very heavy on the malts, the illusion of spice created by hops and yeast. Nice dark bread.

Taste: A rich roasted malt taste with a nice dose of pine and citrus hops. This could almost be a CDA. The taste is a little sweet, but the bready note turns spicy while the finish is fairly dry.

Mouthfeel: A malty heavy brew that is smooth with lower carbonation.

Overall: I like this one a lot. I paid 1.50 for this bottle and will get another before the season ends.

Pours a deep ruddy brown. Tiny bit of tan head. Clears to wispy near nothingness on top quite quickly.
Smells of spicy wood. Not a heavy aged type wood, but faint and pleasant. A mild bready and slightly roasted malt. A hint of some fruity esters, but very small.
Taste starts mild and pleasant. Very faint roasted grain, a hint of smoky chocolate and hearty wheat bread. Just after the middle is a decent bitter hop, not much on exact taste though. Finishes slightly hoppy and mildly spicy. Like a slightly hoppy brown ale. Very nice.
Mouthfeel is higher end of medium. Low carbonation and easy going smooth finish.

A lackluster head and scent, great taste. The 7.2% is greatly masked and I whizzed through the bottle. I think this is one of the better winter beers I've had. Easy to drink, smooth, tasty and well made for the season. I'll have to bring some to Christmas dinner.

Appearance - Pours a semi-clear, dark ruby brown with an off-white finger width head. Decent retention. Leaves behind a thin, but sticky lace.

Smell - Moderate malt roast notes, hinting lightly at coffee and fruity sweetness, subtle spice and faint bitterness.

Taste - Begins with some moderate malt roastiness, hints of berry, and then a big, grassy, slightly citrus hop bitterness kicks in and dominates mid-taste. Burnt coffee character hits near the finish, restoring a bit of balance to this brew. A hint of berry lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. goes down fairly easy.

Overall - Solid winter warmer from Full Sail. Roasted malt meets an assertive, grassy hop bitterness. I can see myself at the top of the hill, ordering this beer before the first run of the day. Nice job, Full Sail.
