Dorothy Lane is really a gourmet / high end grocery store, so what is on the shelf is the good stuff from food to beer. If you're looking for something to pair a beer with that is good quality you're in the right store. That being said, their wine selection is much bigger than their beer selection - they do have a lot of imports here but American craft beers beyond the big names are not easily found. Large selection of imports in the cooler though, and they do rotate based on the season, so it's worth a look every now and then.
I do find that some beers will sit for awhile here, especially the rare and expensive ones. That's not a bad thing though - I had a 2008 Stone Imperial Russian Stout here from April 2008 in February 2009, so it was like a nice cellaring experiment.
Service is good, if you ask for advice on what to pair with something, they're very knowledgable on what they have in stock.
The only drawback I find to the store is the prices, which are on the high side. There are cheaper places in Dayton to get good beer - but - if you're looking for everything in one place you certainly could do worse going elsewhere. The place is certainly up top for food and beer in the Dayton area.

An upscale grocery store that has a really nice selection of craft beers. Large open cooler style shelving is crammed with 6pks and 4pks of really solid brews while only reserving a minimal amount of shelf space to macros. Among the crafts are full lineups of Founders, Stone, Bells, Victory, Tröegs, and many others.
There is also a large selection of single 12oz and bombers including Chimay, Unibroue, Stone, Rogue, Hoppin Frog, and others. There frequently is glassware available for sale as well and it is always decently priced (Stone Levitation tulips for 3$). A huge selection of gourmet cheeses are available as well and pair great with many of the brews.
The department does specialize in wine but the staff is quite knowledgeable and extremely helpful. All of the employees tend to go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. There are weekly wine tastings and about once every two months or so a beer tasting is held as well.
Overall a great place with a better selection of brews than any other grocery store that you will visit in the Dayton area.

When I first moved here, this was the place to go for quality beers. Then I found Belmont Party Supply and haven't been back since. So I decided I should go back for old time sake and give it a review.
I was very impressed with the direction that this store is heading in. Since I was last there they have added some top notch beers to their arsenal. Here are some examples of what I found on today's visit:
Rogue, Avery, Chimay, Bell's, Hopping Frog, DFH and many more.
Some notables were: BORIS the Oatmeal Crusher, Rochefort 8 & 10, St. Bernardus Abt 12, Peche Mortel, & Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Aged - Old Friends
Overall, this place has grown since I was last here. I am very impressed. This is definitely my go to place if Belmont Party Supply is too far away.

This Dorothy Lane Market seemed to be a nicer market in general than the other one down the street. Not saying the other one wasn't nice but this one was super nice! However, the beer is what this review is about. Larger cooler area with more offerings than the other. Really good selection of stuff I can't find in Michigan including Jolly Pumpkin Bar Biere!!! Small but quality Belgian selection, same goes for American Bombers. Service would be great if I were looking for wine as there were like 4 employees helping the wine buyers out, but none helped me. They didn't have any empty six pack holders so I had to use a wine one for my bombers and Belgians. Anyways, I didn't really need or ask for help so it's not a big deal. Great selection, good prices. I'd choose this over the other DLM.

This is a larger store than the one in Oakwood, so the beer selection is slightly better. Again, this is an upscale grocery store that has a lot to offer. The staff is very friendly, and eager to help. It is possible to find someone with a pretty good knowledge of beer to help you if you need it. Good selection of American, Belgian, and other imports. I saw a couple from Rogue, Three Floyd's and Stone. LaChouffe, Aventinus, etc. Most of the 6 packs are cold, while the bombers are on the shelf. A good place to check out, and don't forget some special cheese to go with your beer selection.

Members of my family have long raved about the DLMs as one of their favorite spots for great food. I knew they probably had a great wine selection, but had not really thought much about the beer. Well was I surprised to find a premier selection of top beers. Just to name a few - Westvleteren, Unibroue, Rochefort, Celebrator, all of the GLBC including Moondog, Rogues, Stones, Sierra Nevada, several of the Thirsty Dog brews such as Hoppus Maximus and Baltic - my eyes were popping!. This location allots around 30% of its beer space to all of the macros, whether US or Canada, and the rest is from the non-macro side of the industry. As with the Oakwood location, wines still rule here, but DLM has lots of quality craft and micro brews. If you can't find it here, its one of the very hard to find beers.
