The Brew Pub is located in downtown Columbus. Nice place to check out as there is not much else in the area. The pub has a typical rustic atmosphere with a military theme. Of Cousre Ft benning is just down the road. The brewpub has a nice selection of beers. Of the beers I ordered, the Golden Ale was decent and went well with the meal. Their wheat beer was good, but I enjoyed their IPA best of all. They have good pubgrub although their menu may be a bit extensive. Service was good. The Brewpub is worth another visit.

Previous review (6/22/2010):
This is a very nice establishment in downtown Columbus. The interior is all exposed brick. The brewery sits behind the bar on an elevation, and it just invites you to drink a beer. There is a nice information board where you can gather details about the beer they serve. Great Atmosphere.
Fortuneately for the beer drinker, the beer quality is top notch. While the food is good, it is not nearly at the level of the beer.
Service has been hit and miss in the past, however recently it has been much better, therefore I've given it a good rating.
Selection is 5-6 beers that they brew on premise. I'm not sure if they serve other beers, and I don't care. Afterall, why would you go to a microbrewery to drink other brewer's beers.
Food is typical pub fare, nothing standout, but as stated it is not on par with the beer.
I've had most of their beers over the years, and have not been disappointed with any of them.

Cool old building . The place caters to and has a distinctively military feel to it. Very male. It's great to have a brewpub in Columbus, and their beer is OK. Nothing on the menu for a vegetarian besides beer. It gets pretty loud in the evenings, but in a good way.

The place is small, but comfortable and friendly. The wife and I stopped over for a few beers after a Bela Fleck concert at the Columbus Theater. Its walking distance from a lot of other attractions. The girl behind the bar was super friendly, and it was a quite atmosphere where it was comfortable to talk to others. Got to give extra points to the bartender because I realized I left my ID there and they had it ready for me the next day when I came back.
I had the sampler flight. I didn't really care for any of them. The one I decided to get a glass of was the Red Jacket Ale. It was similar to Killians. The stout was ok too. All of it was drinkable, but I wasn't impressed.
The food was good. I had a Monte Christo with a raspberry sauce/jelly. Very good.
Its the only brew pub in Columbus. Its comfortable and fun. I suggest stopping by if you're in town, but don't get hyped about the beer. The atmosphere and service is great though.

Stopped in on a Tuesday night after work and was pleasantly surprised. I sat at the bar in the back by the brewing equipment and fermentors where just a few locals were hanging out and chatting with Laura the bartender. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The locals were friendly, the beers were decent and the food was good.
The selection of house drafts was typical: A pale ale, an IPA, a golden ale, a wheat beer, a stout, a red, an Imperial IPA (I think) clocking in at 8% and even a root beer. I started with the Special Ops IPA and was impressed with the balance and drinkability of it. I followed this with the Red Jacket Ale, which again was a nicely balanced and drinkable beer with a pleasant malt profile.
For dinner I ordered the Chicken Bayou, a spicy fried chicken breast topped with creamed spinach, shrimp and a bit of andouille sausage. I cleared my plate and was full when finished.
Columbus doesn't have many options when it comes to craft beers, but the Cannon Brew Pub is an oasis of good local folks, food and brews. I will certainly return when back in the area.

This is a super cool brewpub hidden in what otherwise is a small, homely town. Walking inside you're greeted by a huge main room, it's basically a building that has had the upper floor demo'ed so the roof is wayyy above you. Hardwood floors and big, well finished tables are very inviting too. They have a counter right up front to buy shirts and hats, and a kitchen area with several brick ovens. The brewery sits all the way to the back of the building behind a bar, the tanks and plumbing all in full view. The beers served here are strictly the house brands, and the prices are awesome when sued to paying Atlanta prices. A sampler of the beers is only $2.30, pints run $3.50. And they're good beers too, plus they brew their own root beer as well. Food is very good, broad menus from burgers to pizza, well priced, and quickly served. The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and eager to assist. All in all it's a great getaway from the big city bars.

I've been an avid Cannon Brewpub regular since 2001. My ratings primarily go to how it used to be, since it was recently taken over by new management. The regulars are hoping they will change soon though.
The beer is and has always been outstanding. They have great variety and their seasonal are always very good. From their very strong "Sledgehammer," to their caffeinated "Speed Loader," they are all excellent.
The Brewpub has always kept a very neat atmosphere, keeping in the traditions and past of Columbus Georgia, and they are VERY patriotic and are great supporters of our troops.
Whether you are going for lunch, a weekend sit-in at the bar or sidewalk seating, going for dinner, or just going to get sloshed; there is no end to the fun, tasty brews, and interesting people you will run into.

I have been the Cannon Brew Pub a few times over the years. The food is really good. I almost always have one of their Giant Calzones. I don't know how they are able to stuff so much into a piece of bread! I always felt satisfied.
The beer is decent. I have tried their sampler but I consistently go back for their Red Ale (*edit: Red Jack Amber). I wish they brewed their beers to a higher gravity. But as a place to go in the Columbus area I would say this is a good one. Come hungry because you will leave stuffed. I remember thinking their porter was really watered down - but it has been a some time since I've been their. I am heading back next weekend so I will report back what I find.
In the summer their lager is a decent one. I remember it paired really well with their pizza.

Recently went on a work trip to Fort Benning, GA. Being the beerfly, I stopped by Cannon Brew Pub in Columbus, GA. This brewpub is tucked into a series of restaurants / bars / pubs in the older downtown area. The building has a nice inviting front with a signature piece of artillery sitting out front. The artillery theme continues inside with photos and memorabilia. The bar sits in the back of the main room and the brewing setup is stationed behind the small bar. The beer is the standard brewpub setup: Stout, Red, Lager, and at that time a Summer Seasonal. I had the Stout and the Summer Seasonal, a Hefeweizen. The Hefe was average at best. Unfortunately, the Stout had a noticeable vinaigrette aftertaste. If my co-worker had not pointed it out independent of me, I would have wondered if I was certain. However, both he and I could taste the subtle vinegar taste. I am thinking infection by the third sip. Not a problem that extended to the Hefe. The menu looked good and I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad. Not impressed by the salad. Reading the other reviews in contrast, maybe they were having an off night / brew session. I will re-visit this place to give them another try. This review is based off one visit and is not taking in account the off flavor in the Stout.
