Thanks to Jerz for opening this bottle.

A - Clear peachish-urineish-orangeish color with no head and no lacing.

S - Lemon, funk, and a little bit acidic. Soft notes, but good. Nothing overpowering, just nice compliments.

T - Lemon, tea-ish, funk on the back end, weird finish...kind of reminds of Veritas 008.

M - Low carbonation, light to medium body

D - It's nice. Definitely glad to try a retired beer. Tasty, and could definitely drink some more.

375ml into a 3F tumbler. The brew appears a pale golden color with a white froth that sits atop for a rough pour and receeds down to a thin film. Some alcohol legs stick to the glass when swirled.

The smell is musty with earth and herbal components along the lines of moist wood, cork, leather. Some fuity citrus rinds blends with a tropical note. The rindy element is like oranges/grapefuit pulp.

This is quite earthy in flavor with rinds like grapefruit, lemon and mild tropical pulp. Alcohol is there but not as exaggerated as expected, more warming than anything. However, as it warms it has a solvent kick of alcohol that comes out almost like vodka, very spirit reinforced and a bit out of place for the style.

The feel of this brew is medium bodied with a light tingle of carbonation. It starts off very musty and earthy with bitter fruity rind elements and turns weird fast with its alcohol burn. Not bad brew and certainly worth a try but this is not something I would crave or go out of my way for again.

37.5cl (corked and caged) bottle poured into 3F geuze glass
Vintage: 2007

From notes.

A: Apple juice amber. Zero head on vigorous pour.

S: Smells of horseblanket, funk, must, lemon zest, cracked wheat and aged cheese. A decent nose, but it all goes...

...downhill from here...

T: The taste is quite empty and lacking any sort of substance/backbone. Mild hints of funk/must, but it simply tastes like sweet apple juice with a touch of lemon, dash of Belgian yeast, and loads of booze. Unpleasant and disappointing.

M: Light bodied with zero carbonation.

O: I was really excited to try this beer, but I think it's a big letdown. Smells good, but the taste doesn't follow. I realize this is a blend of lambic and strong tripel-like blond topfermenting ale; however, it just wasn't enjoyable at all.

Bottle pour courtesy of mrbubbler at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a murky yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some grain, wood, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight acidic quality on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a great smell but the flavor just doesn’t quite match up to it.

Pours an apple juice color, maybe a bit darker, with an off white thin head. Light notes of dust and some leathery brett in the nose, spicy pepper and orange citrus in the back. A little sweeter in the flavor and less funk, still some dusty leathery brett but very faint. Overly sweet, zesty orange, very juicy with a light peppery spice and hop bitterness in the finish. Creamy feel, medium body, light carbonation.

2007 vintage, corked and caged 375 ml bottle into a tulip glass. Bottle opened completely silently. Its interesting that they used drie fonteinen corks here. ABV on the bottle is listed as 10.5%.

A - Light amber/dark yellow hazy body. There is no head to speak of, just some light bubbles form and lace the glass when given a swirl. Completely still. Bottom of the bottle was quite yeasty.

S - Very gueuze like aroma. Bright lemons followed by some brett funk. Very earthy and tart with just a hint of saison like malt and spice. The finish is also a bit hot from the alcohol.

T - Sour lemon, leather, sweaty sock, biscuity malt, and some belgian yeast and spices. This flavor profile is really subtle and tame, probably due to the thin body. Its pretty tasty, but I was expecting something as bit more intense and flavorful. Alcohol becomes noticeable as it warms up. Mouth feel is obviously flat, with a light to medium mouthfeel.

O - A weird beer for sure. It has some aromas and flavors of a lambic with just some faint tripel notes in the finish. Its also way too boozy. I can drink flat and unblended lambic, but when its 11% abv it becomes a bit distracting. Not worth the price I paid for it.

Bottle from Etre Gourmet
Bottled in 2007 on printed label
Poured into a New Belgium globe glass

Tuverbol is a decent lambic blend, but doesn't offer much that is unique or desirable when compared to others in its style. That it's been discontinued is a bit sad, as there aren't many of this style around, but I don't suspect I'll go hunting for it, either.

Cork removed with no carbonation expulsion, really is equivalent to an unblended lambic.

Pours no head, even swirling fails to generate much of anything. Again, seems to indicate this is an unblended lambic. Body is a golden yellow color, semi-hazy due to yeast, no visible carbonation. Seems about on par with a good lambic.

Aroma is as expected, with a bit of acetic tartness, lemon citrus, leather, and slight sweetness. Does not seem to be as complex or aggressively sour as the Cantillon Bruocsella, the other unblended lambic I have tried.

Major flavors of acetic acid with some lemon citrus acidity as well. Additional flavors include very, very mild Brettanomyces funk, slight burnt dust, and sweat. Latter half of taste features a slight caramel or malt flavor, letting you know that this has indeed been blended with a bit of a Belgian blonde ale. Similarly, faint fruity esters in closing. Ethanol is well-hidden, not detected in the close or back of mouth at all. Aftertaste is of acetic acid bitterness, with residual tartness lingering in the back of the mouth and throat.

The absence of carbonation gives this medium-light to medium bodied beer a smooth, unimpeded flow in the mouth. Not puckering in its tartness, but strong enough to be felt and give a dry finish.

2007 vintage. 37.7cl bottle poured into a tulip. Thanks to Thorpe429 for the beer!

A - Cork came off with a tiny pff. Poured into my glass and got just a very small white head after an aggressive pour. The beer is a hazy golden-orange in color with the golden portion being more noticeable.

S - I get some of the Belgian yeast character, and a little alcohol which reminds me of a tripel. There are also hints of lemon.

M - Medium in body with medium carbonation. Maybe a bit under-carbonated.

T - Some funk up front followed by a good portion of Belgian yeast character. There is a strong pale ale malt sweetness present following the yeast flavor. Lemony sourness kicks in mid-taste and sticks around through the finish. A somewhat harsh alcohol flavor appears towards the finish, which ruins it a bit for me.

An interesting beer, sort of a soured tripel, with the flavors from the tripel standing out more than the Gueuze like flavors.

Bottle from 2006 at Kulminator on 12 August 2011. €9.

Body between amber and copper. Thin splotchy white head after vigorous swirling.

Big lemon smell, huge acidity, floral, just a bit acetic. Generic gueuze, sweet vinegar. YUM. Nail polish and floral perfume.

Taste. A lot carried over from the aroma. Rose petal syrup, perfume, vinegar, acetone, lemon.

Lightly fluffy. A little hot as it warms. Drying.

I like it. The floral component sets this one apart for me. Chica dinges. Or what ever.

Bottle of the 06 vintage into a 3F tumbler at De Heeren van Liedekerke.

A: Clear orange-brown body under a finger of super-fine off-white head. Good retention for 11%, light lace. Attractive.

S: Amazing. Rich candied fruits, tangerine sourness, caramel apple, wet hay, vinous grape, bubblegum + smoke (these last two go together - seriously, smoked bubblegum). Weird as hell, and absolutely divine.

T: Sweet + sour, with caramel, treacle, marzipan, and toffee blending effortlessly wiht tannic wine, sour grapefruit, lemon zest, and alcohol. Tastes very old and slightly barleywinish, with lightly oxidized vanilla. Boozier than I like a sour to be, but still fantastic.

M: Slick medium-to-full body with light, prickly carbonation. Ok.

O: I didn't know what to expect with this one, and even when I was finished it still didn't make any sense - I just know that it was awesome. If I ever get the chance to drink this again, I'll jump at it.

Cheers!

Bottle shared by Dr. Matt in his front bar. Thanks!

Loving the label on this, very cool.

Pours a clear yellow into my Russian River "tion" glass with few bubbles and no real head to speak of. Not a bad looking beer.

Wow this is a fragrant beverage that is full of funk, yeast, tartness and hints of citrus. Taste is really nice with lots of flavor and I am shocked that this is 11% abv. A little sweet with some funk, tartness, a little sour, citrus, and Belgian wild yeast. Thick and full, but I like it.

Very interesting beer and will seek this out in the future.

Big thanks to Exiled for sharing this rare, retired gem.

The beer pours a cloudy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of lemons and oranges with some light funk mixed in. The beer doesn't smell as sour or funky as I expected it to.

The flavor is similar. I get light to medium funk which is very nice. I also get some nice citrus notes - mainly lemons and oranges.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Glad I got to try this one. Thanks Jason!

Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt!

The beer appears translucent and yellow hued, with several pockets of bubbles forming up into individuals schools. The head is thin and doesn't linger too long before dissipating.

The aroma is bold and inviting. Smells of a tradition Belgian lambic: funky, musty, light citrus, wild yeast.

The flavor is good, with some tasty citrus notes, but doesn't quite measure up to the piquant aroma. Though the taste brings plenty of musty, funky, tart flavors, it also has a present sweetness and alcohol flavor of which I am not accustomed when drinking lambic. The unusually high alcohol percentage is evident throughout, though it's not a complete distraction.

The feel is thicker than is customary for the style. The beer finishes with a warming alcohol sensation.

Overall, an interesting, intriguing, and fun beer. I would definitely have it again. I'd really like to get a bottle of this and tuck it away in the cellar for an extended period of time.
