Served in a pilsner glass at the Schaumburg location.
Met up with a soon-to-be-married couple o' friends o' mine here in S-Burg for some post-work/movie food and fun. Started the e'ening off with this here brew. It pours a very (man, do I wish I had some italics at my disposal here!) dark black-brown topped by a finger or so of creamy off-white foam. The nose comprises cocoa powder, mild roasted malts, very light vanilla, and a nice kiss o' dark molasses. The taste brings in much of the same, though everything is a touch paler than before, as though someone was unwilling to to unleash anything that could be considered a bold flavor. Things are still decently tasty, mind you, just not what they could theoretically be, given how nice the smell comes across. Maybe it's just me... The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a semi-creamy feel. Overall, an enjoyable stout, straight up, but a somewhat dark shadow of what it could have been if allowed to fly freely.

Sampled at Ram Schaumburg 10/7/2010.
Pours dark brown/black with a little tan head. Not much lacing or retention. Forms a ring around the glass.
Aroma is of roast, too much malt, caramel, and a bit of chemical. Think 50% robust stout with 50% amber mixed in and a splash of burnt toast added to the glass.
Flavor is roasty, burnt, coffee, caramel, bitter, too sweet, low/med bitterness for style.
Body is medium/heavy and drinkability dissipates with the head.
Tick.
