A very dark brown beer with a settling head.
The smell is very interesting and has a dark malty character, followed by a smokey and a smell that reminds me of oats, which is a oily, greasy smell with a grainy smell.
The taste is not your typical bock,it lacks the typical sweet maltiness and the beer has a smoky, almost saucisse-like taste. The beer has notes of oats, raisins and plums. In the aftertaste there is a smoky note that combines well with the beer.

On-tap at Jopenkerk, Haarlem, Netherlands
A: The beer is close to being black in color and has traces of amber near the edges of the glass when it is held up to a bright light.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose - raisins seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but is much more maltier and has some associated sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and slightly smooth on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer kind of tastes like a hybrid between a Doppelbock and a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. The alcohol is very well masked from the taste.

A present from Doopie. Cheers dude!
From a bottle into a snifter
Best Before 21/08/2014
APPEARANCE: Pours out brown and yields a two finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with very good retention. Bistre brown body with medium levels of carbonation. Slowly fades to a good foam cap and clings to the glass. Half wisp remains and leaves some dots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Decent nose of dark malts, caramel and dark fruits, like raisins and grapes. Some roasted notes and light coffee and chocolate hints. Pretty nice stuff.
TASTE: Dark malts and roasted notes up front, with some caramel, roasted flavors and cocoa powder at the swallow. A bolder and lingering finish of roasted and dark malts again, some chocolate and roasted coffee bitterness, leather, and licorice flavors. Quite stout-like in the finish.
PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Light on the palate but plenty creamy, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry. A little light, but fine otherwise.
OVERALL: A solid brew for sure. This is more of a porter or stout influenced doppelbock with the roasted malt thrown in there, but I'm not complaining. The feel could be a little heavier and thicker for the style, but the overall drinking experience is still quite good. A solid beer by a solid brewery. Thanks again Doops! Recommended.

330 ml long neck bottle, poured into a weizen glass.
Very very dark brown colour, almost black, with a deep beige head, two fingers tall, creamy and with very good retention. Some light lacing around the glass. Impressive.
Lots of roasted malts on the nose, some light alcohol smell but not very noticeable at forst and some coffee aromas.
Amazing taste, again lots of roasted malts, coffee, toffees and chocolate, slighty bitter on the aftertaste. Very drinkable.
Average carbonation and a full body. The alcohol very nicely hidden.
Great beer and very drinkable.

I tasted this seasonal "Dubbel Bok" on tap at the Jopenkerk, Haarlem on 22nd October 2011. It is served in a a large stemmed glass giving it a volume of about 350ml (I'm guessing here). Plenty of froth to the tan coloured head as it is poured and this remained well. The body was dark - almost black with a ruby tinge. The smell was slightly sweet maltiness with dark berries. The taste is terrific; not overly sweet but dangerously drinkable. One of the best beer experiences that I have ever had.
