I got this beer (along with the approriate glass) from my brother who lives in Nijmegen as a birthday gift (very thoughtful of him). I had never heard of either the beer or the brewery before and seeing as I had not had very pleasant experiences with Dutch beers, I was sort of suspicious. The presentation though was very nice. The bottle was a 1L bottle with a 'flip-top' cork. (or whatever you call those) and a little booklet hanging by a thread around the neck. On to the review.
Appearance: Pours a hazy orangy yellow brew with a creamy head.
Smell: Fresh and tart with quite some spicy, peppery aroma's. Lots of citrussy fruits in the nose too.
Taste: Very lemony with malts and hoppy spices to balance things out. Finishes short and sour, giving this beer a refreshing twist.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: This one has a lively carbonation but is still rather smooth. Quite heavy for a 5%-er but immensely drinakble nonetheless. This is a highly quaffable liquid, especially when it's hot.
Conclusion: Quite a tasty and unusual brew. It's like a Hybrid betweed a geuze and an abbey blond. And against all odds that's not a bad thing!
