300 ml bottle, at home, poured into a chalice.
Small off-white head that dissipates quickly on top of a dark brown beer. Head does leave some light lacing as it goes down. Very light activity in the glass.
Dark fruits on the aroma, plums, some caramel.
Taste is a nice bitter one, turns to a bitter-sour aftertaste, with some notes of iron along with fruits.
Medium body and average amount of carbonation. Alcohol not so obviously present, but it does offer some warmth afterwards.
A nice try from Gulpener.

30cl bottle poured into a 'Leffe' stemmed goblet @ home on 30 Dec 2012.

Looks good: reddy brown body that's clear and bright, on top a biege head that started thin but held well and gave some heavy lacing on the goblet

Malty and fruity aroma and taste: starts sweet and ends fairly bitter and dry. A bit thin for a Dubbel body wise but not a bad brew. Hints of yeastiness throughout, but overall lacking enough flavour and 'umph' for the style it is trying to portray.

This is a beer i got from my brother in law. He is called Gerard like this beer.
Poured in my Struise glas this beer gives a big head. Fluid is like dark tea. Very little carbonation. Some lacing but not spectacular.

Smell ok, thought i got some cherries in the nose.

Taste is quit good for this type of beer, Some dryness. This beer is pretty sweet bot not too sweet.

Overall a decent beer but not more than that. Is is a beer you could drink all night. No alcohol feelable.

Last of my beers from my weekend in Holland
As previously described, pours a deep mahagony-cherry smoke colored tone, The head is actually quite nice, medium, lightly foamy, but retention is good. Doesn't approach the milkshake thickness of a Rochefort, but good nonethe less.
Smells quite chocolatly to me. Cocoa, fig, cherry, raisins oak tobacco, clove, sour fir, honey, oatlike mustiness, but the cocoa and dark fruit dominate.
Flavor shows a sharper note of cherry. Fig, raisin, tobacco, all accented by cocoa, a bit of a flip from the aroma. Now cocoa plays the supporting role. This finish is suprisingly(delightfully) spicy, with a burn that envokes a much higher ABV than 7.5, I would easily say 9%. At it opens up, the aromatics increase in complexity, but the beer becomes slightly sweeter. At times almost too sweet, a hint more carbonation would work wonders.
Carbonation medium.Cherry, rummy, a bit boozy. NIce to sip on and watch a movie as it is 15degrees outside.
Drinkability has two high points I can imagine. One, like tonight, a cold European night, sipping on a spicy rustic beer, or even on a hot summer dinner, served ice cold, or paired with a slightly creamy dessert.
Better than expected.

This reddish brown dubbel from Wittem is pretty hoppy and malty. Next to that i would say it also has a spicy bite and syropy sweetness, and a roasty character.
I have to mention the aftertaste. I can't say it's bad, but it holds too much bitterness just a bit too long for my taste.
As a whole, it's an average expression of the Belgian dubbels, dark ales and seasonal fall- and winterbeers. It lacks depth and balance, and could have far more varried sweetness than the plain syrop it has.

A: A clear, deep red with a long lasting head. Some minimal lacing on the glass.

S: Malt dominates, there is a smell almost of fresh bread with some underlying fruits - possibly cherry.

T: As it smells really. Fresh bread, cherry flavours, it almost tastes as if it has been blended with a kriek. It would score higher on the taste, but for the doughy aftertaste, with a slight hint of wet-cardboard - possibly indicating oxygenation, though that seems unlikely in a commercial beer.

M: Good, substantial - many beers of this style are simply too watery or too foamy, but this one has is about right.

D: It's strange, I quite like this beer but I don't really want another. I think it's down to the aftertaste. It's enjoyable to drink but doesn't really leave a good impression afterwards.

Deep red color, a decent beige head.
The smell is fruity, with cherry. A lot of cherry. It seems a cherry syrup, almost.
The taste is also sweet, too sweet, with again cherry and candy sugar.
It is labeled as a dubbel, but...
Definitely cloying. Not more.

The was quite small and faded away fast. The colour was chestnut brown, a bit darker. Smell was sweet, some pineapple, which could also be found from the taste. The taste was a bit disappointing. Alcohol was very dominating.
Sweet, pretty beer with the special pineapple taste, but the taste of alcohol ruined it.
